It's so quiet here today! Are people off for the week or just dealing with back to school? We got a puppy last week so I've been on high alert puppy duty and feel like I stepped out of the news cycle. It was kind of nice but I'm glad for some time to catch up on what's been going on. Ummmmm... puppy photos?!?

punker1212 school is so hard right now. I hope you aren't beating yourself up for your reaction. My 2nd grader started today (remote) and it was not great. I kind of want to cry. And I didn't even have to make a choice, like you did.

And I didn't even have to make a choice, like you did. It’s so hard with the little ones!! So unfair and avoidable- preaching to the choir I know. I vote cry- it was helpful to have a place to put all my angry feelings even if temporary. At least we know it is hard for lots of us in a weird sad solidarity.

punker1212, Uncaripswife I feel for you. My partner's kids are doing fully remote but don't start until the 18th. Their friends went back today and I think that's adding some feelings for them too. I can imagine pulling up and seeing other kids would just be an additional gut punch in the midst of all these super hard choices. Sending you both strength and you can always vent here.

This is an absolutely horrible thing to see today. Because I need this. Can you send it to me? I've gotten a mail order German Shorthaired Pointer before.

We started remote today as well, plus I'm working from home. there were some bumps - school issued device not connecting, but it was easily fixed by switching to a personal device, (which is the absolute height of privilege). I feel bad for those that dont have a device to switch to. there were a few kids who couldnt stay logged in C's class. BUT the absolute crying and whining online in mom groups, nextdoor, and news sites was fucking ridiculous. there were 40k kids in the district, it wasnt gonna go smoothly no matter what. And people yelling about SEE THIS IS WHY they need to be in school. Like chill people do you bitch on a news site when your company network goes down? when they roll out a new program and nobody can get it to work. I feel like this is the universes way of teaching how to give some grace and they FAILED.
I totally get the frustration but these people werent frustrated they were just flat out refusing to budge. it was so disheartening and I really feel for the teachers and IT peeps that might read those comments.

Notarobot he looks like my franky!! Similar coloring. Franky is still a puppy too, but at a year and a half, he is quite a bit larger.

punker1212, we had our first day of (our choice) virtual. It was an understandably messy day as our district is 120K kids, half in person, half virtual. My oldest in particular is just heartbroken. I am so, so angry at all the shit decisions that brought us here.

I totally get the frustration but these people werent frustrated they were just flat out refusing to budge. it was so disheartening and I really feel for the teachers and IT peeps that might read those comments. It's stuff like this that makes me feel like I am going to war being an IT guy. No I can't tell you how long it will take to fix it because I don't know the problem and I have to do some research on fixing it. To make another analogy we IT people are doing the same as these vaccine people every day for every problem. But we get results god damn it. Every time and as fast as we can with people complaining, threatening, and yelling. Now take that and multiply it and that is what they are going through. For what takes us an hour to fix will take them months. P.S. please remember to thank your local IT guys. They are doing everything in their power to keep everyday life running. And if they are like me, they are essential and have been on site working in person since the start of the pandemic.

I don’t really know if this goes here, but Lord help me I need to put it somewhere. Today we started virtual learning, which was optional. Most people are F2F here. I pulled in to the school to pick up a Chromebook for my KINDERGARTENER and I just totally lost it. Seeing kids on the playground but mine aren’t there because we couldn’t take the risk of in person. Seeing all of the signage and sanitizers and smelling the cleaning products. Signs on the doors that no visitors are allowed. Seeing all the familiar faces that my kids won’t be seeing this year as they are stuck home with a computer and they’re 5 & 7!! I just couldn’t keep it together. I ugly cried/played Disney songs really loud to distract my children. This was so avoidable and I am holding Trump and his voters personally responsible for this alternate universe we are living in. I’m so upset for my kids to be missing out, for the friends they aren’t making, that the teachers won’t get to have their sweet personalities in their classrooms. This is all so gross. Anyone else get gobsmacked by some feelings lurking in the background this week? I cried today because we can only have one parent and no siblings go to DDs kindergarten orientation and thanks to covid all families were given a specific time slot to meet the teacher. We can't make our slot work and it feels unfair. If I could bring my other kids like in any other normal year it wouldn't matter and I'd be able to take her. She still doesn't know she's only going two days a week either. I'm waiting until her first virtual day to let that disappointment set in since she's already nervous.

Also I see they just announced the entire Rochester PD has announced their retirement. Yup. Loooooot of shit hitting the fan here. The blame game is strong too. No one will take responsibility and it's a bunch of finger pointing. It's a mess.

Add me to the list of being upset at my child not being in school. He was soooo excited to start kindergarten, he thrived in preschool, and he seems so deflated? depressed? about homeschooling. I want him to have friends. I want him to be excited for learning. I want him to grow socially. No matter how hard I try, I can’t fulfill those things.
I’m angry and heartsick about how little thought and care this administration has given towards children. Just utterly disgusted.

Sending love and hugs to all of you and your littles. It makes me so angry for everyone, because it didn't have to be this way.

I’m over my skis with work and school too. I just can’t keep up. And I totally just had to tell my boss today that I didn’t get a bunch of stuff done. She is understanding and doesn’t harp on it but does the “well let’s just make that a priority to get done right away” and I’m like Notarobot cute puppy!! punker1212 I’m sorry about all the emotions. I feel it.

My heart is going out to all of you with the first day experiences. I remember going to bed worn out emotionally after our first day after trying to be positive and excited for my kids. It didn’t have to be this way and to be back at it after a spring of fumbling through at home school is so hard.
