Oh, one of my friends posted this on Facebook. I told her, "You know the people not wearing masks ARE the Karens, right?" What. The. Fuck. This is, of course, a person who has posted multiple GTGs on her Facebook as well. That she thinks this makes her look good...

I just want my 5 yr old to make friends and go to kindergarten. Same same. Feels like so little and so much to ask. DD should have started 1st grade yesterday and I should be in my office, sitting at my desk with all my coworkers. But here we are...at home. Oh well. But I still have a job, one that isn't asking me to come back in until I can and for that I'm thankful.

McBenny, thank you for further validating my LOLNO to DD participating in marching band. I'm sad for her, sure, but a pandemic is not the time for marching band. She will have to keep playing her clarinet via Zoom for now.

thatgolfb That is so messed up with your coworker. That is SO far from what I have been seeing in my workplace and I would be so mad. I hope you don't get sick and that they rethink their policies.

Actually the more I think about it the more mad I get about the workplace BS.
We are not allowed in office unless we get prior approval. If it is deemed necessary for us to go in we have to wait in our cars for someone to come out and temp check us. Only 5 people are allowed in the building at a time and a mask must be worn at all times. If you have been in contact with a known exposure you are required to self quarantine for 14 even if you test negative.
You're telling me someone living with a confirmed positive has to come in?! That's shit!

The birth center where I plan to give birth has instituted a masks for everyone in the building rule, including laboring moms. So I’m super looking forward to that.

thatgolfb I don’t like that rule but I’m pretty sure that I’ve heard of other places doing the same for essentials like fire fighters and the like.

I posted a while ago about not understanding how schools were going to make smaller in person classes happen when the number of teachers and number of students weren't changing. Lots of people here LOLed at me and told me I didn't get it.
Our district has in person school, and a majority of students chose that option. So, in-person classes have anywhere from 15-20 kids, and then about one teacher/grade/school has all the online students, which is up to 40. 40 online elementary students for one teacher. So that's how they "fixed" it.

My boss is taking off towards the end of the week and going to the lake. The lake is hosting a 1000 boat Trump parade.
I just love working in the office.

People need to realize that "it's not fair" is not a valid reason to do whatever the fuck they want anyway. This country is so full of selfish assholes. I want to take out billboards with this on them. Yes! And the greatest irony is that many are the same people bitching about how the last generation of participation trophies are the snowflakes. They are the spoiled, entitled ones right now.

ETA and we are a small department , so having someone out is a strain. Training in our department takes months and it isn’t easy for someone to just fill in. So I get that part. But it’s like... they are trying not to pay the Covid leave. Now if the whole department gets it; they are fucked because we can’t do our job, AND they have to pay 5x the leave anyway, so...

That sucks so much and I’m so surprised because it seemed like your employer was being really on top of things up to this point, given you being in the healthcare industry. It makes no sense for him to still be coming into work, and then going home to his positive wife. Yikes.

thatgolfb I know I am lucky that I can work from home. But even our other departments that can't have stipulations so that they don't all come down with Covid and no one can work. I would think beings small there would be more precautions. Like what happens if everyone gets sick, the whole department shuts down?

I am wondering where this is because the lake we are visiting this coming weekend is supposedly having one as well...but the local law enforcement isn’t going to let it happen. They were also supposed to have a tie up party, but that got cancelled as well. Which I’m happy about. Lake Travis in Austin

Work is giving us Friday off because the world is burning and they feel we need a four day weekend. I mostly just walk around glaring at this point. That is just so nice that they recognize that. I am excited because I have a 3 day week next week - Monday off and then I’m taking Friday off. I need a break.

I would think beings small there would be more precautions. Like what happens if everyone gets sick, the whole department shuts down? My coworkers and I have discussed this at length, multiple times, and the higher ups are basically 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️ about it. I guess on Friday (when I was out), my coworkers asked them again and they were basically just like “we will figure it out.” Honestly I think the only thing to do if literally everyone was out would be to send out our testing, which is our protocol if all our instruments are down (we have two of each thing so this doesn’t happen, but we have been close to needing to do it before). But someone would actually have to be there to facilitate the send outs (my boss, if no one else). Like, one person could do everything, but it would require a lot of overtime, and it would be stressful as hell. I worked a Saturday recently and got overtime and didn’t nearly do everything that usually needs to be done on a daily basis, because I had one other person there with me. There are certain things that *have* to get done because of specimen requirements (testing within 48 hours of draw, acute leukemia’s that have to be done stat, etc), and things that can wait until the next day. But obviously if 4 of our 5 people are out, a bunch of stuff will get pushed further and further out. Anyway; again, these are my internal thoughts. I’m mentally prepared to cover people if they are out, it’s just, I would rather they keep potential spreaders away. Also, I’m feeling sniffly and developing a mild dry cough today, which I’m 98% sure is allergies, but that other 2%...

We (MH and I) are fearful of giving it to family if we were exposed etc. So, we haven't seen any family in months and have no plans to. We do zoom and video call. I do send the grands packages and pictures and keep everyone informed as to what we are doing so everyone feels connected. The kids like to make the boxes for the grands and sending them. This is us too. I sent grandparents games and they have been playing battleship and the like over Zoom. In a weird way it has been really nice because I think we are being more intentional about maintaining and fostering the connections. I have to buy my mom a couple puzzles for her impending quarantine. In 2 weeks she will easily do a puzzle a day. So I figured some new ones would be nice.

I hope so, too. I do have a lot of faith in masking and how effective it is, so I am hopeful that masking all the time at work, and eating lunch by ourselves, will help us all avoid this.
