30-35% of Big Ten athletes that tested positive for COVID have myocarditis: So fucking sad. It makes me mad that many of these cases could have been prevented if they had called off the NCAA seasons earlier.

I was wondering the same thing. I was thinking maybe people couldn’t be evicted if they have medical problems, but that still doesn’t make sense and didn’t know if it applied to everyone. I haven’t looked at the details. This year is so fucking weird. They are saying that more unhoused people are leading to spread COVID in shelter environments. I’m sure it’s true, it just seems strange that the directive is coming from the CDC and not a housing-focused agency in HHS. I figured it would be something like that. It was just so weird for it to come from the CDC, but it is the year of anything possible.

While I was driving to work, NPR told me that it was a move to pressure congress to get moving on legislation for rent relief. Even if tenants can't be evicted (good), right now they still owe all the rent, along with any late fees that are continually piling up (bad). Also, not all landlords can absorb the cost of tenants who can't pay, so they need help too. Also, people who are evicted moving in with others or into a homeless shelter = increased spread. Ok, so it’s like a public health order? I guess that makes sense. I think so? They also discussed how toothless the CDC has been during this pandemic. Just making recommendations as to what people should be doing rather than mandating action. I didn't know that the CDC had any real power other than just to make recommendations. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I got a screener to participate in the vaccine trials today. I suspect I don't leave the house enough to get picked, but I'm curious!

I signed up for the Oxford vaccine trial in my area this week. I’m hoping to get picked. DH and I both work in healthcare.

Ok his fever is gone without Advil now. So I guess I’ll continue to monitor.

Have you all heard of testing wastewater for COVID as a precautionary measure? The University of Utah tested wastewater for traces of COVID and ultimately quarantined four residence halls due to elevated levels in the wastewater. Now they are reporting that of 80% of tests back, 4 students have self reported as positive.
I know a similar thing happened with a packing plant that had elevated numbers over the summer. Is this happening elsewhere or just here? I know it’s terrible to say, but I don’t really trust my state to be on the innovative side of COVID even if some officials have really pushed hard for certain measures.

Like he’s had double ear infections and no fever before. Strep, no fever. They always ask when I call and I’m like “look, he’s sick, ok”. The highest I saw it was 101 and that was just two times when he had just been wrapped in a blanket. It’s down now and his last Advil dose was 8 hours ago. 🤞🏼

My grandma is in assisted living around in the SW/W Minnesota area. I hate the fact that the community that has helped each other for so many years is not all on board with keeping each other safe now. They had the National Guard come in to test everyone recently because of a different outbreak elsewhere. riverrider Didn’t you mention recent wedding-related cases? Hope your fam is ok if you are in the area of these cases.

jaygee, I don’t normally post much here, but I have some personal experience on this one. My kids bestie just had a stomach bug and fever. Parents took him to the dr and dr figured strep, and tested for it. The parents pushed for covid as well even though the dr thought they were extra. He was positive for covid. They’re almost done with their 24 day quarantine with it all. No one else got tested because no symptoms and they’re hard to get a hold of here. But a good reminder that for kids, covid often presents as gastric distress and a fever. Having this hit so close, I’d be pushing to get tested sooner that three days right now if you can.

Hope your fam is ok if you are in the area of these cases. I did! It ended up being 6 family members that did not go to the wedding after they were positive. The bride and groom and about 12 people that we know of were tested on the Monday after the wedding and all turned out negative. No one else has come back positive that I have heard of. I did not cater the wedding but could have as one of the family members had already exposed me at my full time job. I did go get tested after our company heard as did everyone else. There are only 5 of us in our building. And we all came back negative. If you don't mind me asking, where is your grandma? You can PM if you want. My son and his Boy Scout troop are putting together care packages with different art supplies and such and are looking for different assisted living homes.

CU Boulder did this also and had 4 dorm buildings come back with positive results. They are now in the process of testing all the students and staff who live/work in the buildings. 21 positives for the campus yesterday, they aren’t releasing the specifics of those yet.

I would probably test. if you can easily get a test that is. fever coming down with motrin doesn't mean no covid, I thought I'd mention that cause some people think that if fever responds to meds it isn't covid.

Thanks for mentioning that. I couldn’t remember where that landed as I remember a lot of debate early on. I only gave him the Advil this morning at 8 when the fever was at 101. But then this afternoon when it would be worn off he had no fever. Tonight when I was putting him to bed it was 99. He also didn’t eat much dinner tonight and was pretty sleepy. I’m going to call first thing tomorrow. My guess is that they will test him. I’m nervous.

The city I grew up in is doing it as well as many surrounding communities. SU is doing it and actually quarantined an entire dorm today because they found it in wastewater so they are testing everyone now

This is purely speculation, and I would gladly accept alternate views. I’m wondering if we are hearing of a lot of college cases because there are more aggressive testing based on wastewater COVID levels?

I’m not sure if wastewater is the reason- from what I’ve read/heard, colleges are making tests readily available and encouraging frequent testing.

The university my H works for is doing this. Not sure if it's doing much, but they are doing it. They use Syracuse University which is about an hour and half from his campus to run the samples.

I’m wondering if we are hearing of a lot of college cases because there are more aggressive testing based on wastewater COVID levels? . I think college campuses are just the next outbreak center. It is inevitable to being people from all across the country and have them live relatively close quarters. For a time JMU was not reporting campus health results to the state health dept apparently because their numbers were so high. I don't know if that's resolved or not but its ridic.

I’m wondering if we are hearing of a lot of college cases because there are more aggressive testing based on wastewater COVID levels? from what I understand the wastewater testing is to find asymptomatic cases ASAP to prevent as many outbreaks as possible. The current huge spread is from gatherings/bars from my understanding.

Everyone's fine here.
