I think my social butterfly H is getting antsy. I told him I understood but he knows it’s not safe and we are supposed to go on vacation with BIL, SIL, and nephew next week (which will be over two weeks since the first draft happened) so he can’t go anywhere until then. He KNEW it was wrong. I’m always the bad guy. Sigh. There are safe social activities he can do! A socially distant walk, a distant happy hour. Outdoors, masked up, six feet or more apart. (I'm sure you've made this point to him) I know. I think he intended to wear his mask but then others were not. He said they were distanced but...you know. I am so rigid in the rules so it doesn’t make any sense to me. I hope he learned his lesson. I’m not trying to parent him but he needs to realize what we have on the line here. Anyways, trying to give grace but definitely put my foot down on the unnecessary second draft. Don’t ruin my one vacation that is already not my idea of a vacation thanks to covid!!!!

I told H we wouldn't be going to see FIL at the holidays this year. We'll see if he comes to visit us. We haven't been there since after Christmas last year. And he hasn't been here in longer. Family distance is hard, and there's no easy way to deal with it.

Remember when we thought of the notion that we'd be in this for 6 months and we were like NO WAY we can't let that happen. lolsob. I remember when school closed for two weeks and we were all "how will we do any work this month?" Six months later and my kid hasn't even started again.... I kept saying there’s no way they’d keep school closed/virtual and that things couldn’t last like this. Absolutely couldn’t comprehend it. I was also vehemently against homeschool last year when my mom suggested it. Well, guess who gladly took her kids out when her state/county decided to act a fool? Fuck this year man. 2021 doesn’t look good either.

My Aunt in MA has spent every Christmas with us since DD1 was born. We're in wait and see mode on whether she will come this year or not, but are fully prepared for it to be a no. This year was supposed to be the first time my Aunt in FL and her family (H, 2 adult daughters, and one of their fiances) were going to come here for Christmas. She seems hopeful that it will happen but I am very LOL NO as my cousins are just living like there is no covid. One has already been asymptomatic positive.

Thanks to this thread I just reminded MH that next week is 6 months from when schools were going to be closed for 2 weeks here. And how naive and hopeful we were back then.
I'm just so pissed at our federal leadership that here we are 6 months later and it's still not safe for kids to be in school.

Clyburn just expertly smacked Mnuchin on how irrelevant the stock market performance is to the reality most Americans live Always true.

PDQ Here is my house lit up red to support the live events industry. Just a couple lights DH grabbed on his way out the door at work and an old bed sheet. I wish I could link the live stream from our Boston event, it was emotional. If you want to see more, look for WeMakeEvents on FB. Or just search the hastag #wemakeevents on FB or IG. It's amazing to see so many people just coming out for us.

So since we are talking about the holidays, I have a question. My parents live in the same area as us. If we do visits, they are outside. They and their spouses both work in jobs where they cannot/do not WFH. They are not overly cautious but nor are they complete idiots about all of this.
I was possibly thinking about inviting them to our house for short visits on Thanksgiving and/or Christmas with the stipulation that they wear masks. I am assuming it would be too cold to be outside, so in my head, they're actually in my house. Probably NOT around meal times because those masks are staying on.
Now, I know we all have to make decisions we are comfortable with and no one can decide this for me. But, I am hoping someone can point out if there is a flaw in my thought process...
I'm more concerned that they give it to us than the other way around because we are way more cautious. And we know typical cloth masks don't protect us all that well from other's droplets. So at my house, my family of 4 is not breathing in all of the air at someone else's house that possibly has a heavy viral load of CV hanging out in it. If one of them had it, they would have on a mask, we would have on masks (except the 2 year old), which significantly lowers the risk. I see no more than 4 adults over at the time and my downstairs is open and spacious for distancing purposes. I can Lysol all the surfaces, so I'm not concerned about that. It's always been the respiratory spread that freaks me out.
I have not mentioned this to anyone. I'm just floating this around in my head. How much do you think the "logic" of this plan holds up with what we know about being safe?

doublestuf I think your logic makes sense. I would feel more comfortable having people to my house and sanitizing, limiting areas they were in, masks on, all that jazz. It’s hard to feel comfortable in other people’s spaces even if they are trying to be safe. Hugs to everyone making tough holiday decisions this year. It’s not easy. We have told our parents that visits to us are not happening while our kids are in person school. I just don’t want to expose them. I also am not interested in flying or driving to see them. We did it this summer because we were set-contained in a camper. That won’t be possible in winter.

I also think your house equals your rules. If you go to someone else’s house, it’s their rules.

I remember when our school closed and I was expecting it but I thought it would be 2 weeks. Then they announced it would be 4 weeks and I was floored. Like get me a shot of tequila FOUR WEEKS 😳😳😳 Lol @ March 2020 me.

doublestuf I think that sounds reasonable. Less than 10 people together for a few hours wearing masks sounds like an ok trade off for spending some time together at the holidays.

jaygee I’m sorry you’re feeling like the bad guy. I would be livid too. A new recurring anxiety dream I have is I find myself in a place where I forgot my mask and no one else is wearing masks. I know you are very smart and strict about all this so that’s got to be tough to deal with.

I think it was just an in the moment thing because he is normally as careful as I am. But we are coming up on the season where we will likely be quarantining before doing things like our mini vacay next week and hopefully a trip to see my family. So I need him to act right. Of course DS gave me a scare tonight with temporarily spiking a fever but I really think it’s non Covid related. It was down pretty quickly with some Advil.

I'm at level 3000 with my husbands friend who didn't postpone his wedding. Husband is in it. I point blank told him toddler and I would not be attending, especially following the Maine outbreak from a wedding. And the news that several small outbreaks in MN stemmed from a wedding. Granted, I was already annoyed with this wedding because its on Halloween, which only happens to be my favorite holiday of the year. I know 4 women who have gotten married in MA over the last few weeks with lots of people in attendance, and in all of their pics, not a mask in sight. One this past weekend had all sorts of cutesy signs about Sweet Caroline being banned (touching me, touching you) and sanitizer bottles reading “spread love not Covid”, but no social distancing, no masks. Like your signs mean squat if you’re not actively practicing safety!

I am reallllly hoping it will be safe to see my in AZ in the spring. It will be 1.5 years at that point. At least DH's family is hyper local so we see them regularly, but dammit, I miss mine!

I hope it's nothing jaygee. I totally get the worry. I kicked H out of bed last night when he dry coughed several times. I'm not a total monster. There is a guest bed. Probably over the top but my brain was yelling who will take care of the kids if we both get sick??

Regarding air travel, I saw something from Southwest about how they have complete air changes every few minutes with HEPA filters, open middle seats, masks required, etc.
Have there been any outbreaks connected to planes for the flight attendants, etc. who have been going this whole time? I honestly don't know.
Of course, we probably don't know because that would mean that our contract tracing is adequate...

I know there is at least one, where passengers got comfortable and let their masks slip. I don't think it's necessarily the plane ride that's the problem- it's the airports.

I know everyone is surprised by this.
Still sad. Even if people make bad choices, I’m still sad for their loved ones.
