Here is the new September Politics Board Coronavirus thread. This is still useful, yeah?
This is week 26 since we shut down. A HALF YEAR.

Remember when we thought of the notion that we'd be in this for 6 months and we were like NO WAY we can't let that happen.
lolsob.

So many people on FB citing the new CDC numbers and how there are only 9000 COVID deaths. This is exactly what the CDC/Trump administration were going for right? I just can't get over how fucked up everything is.

So my school district opened up face to face and remote Aug 26. Parents got the choice. Every other district around us is starting remote but these fucking people insisted on a choice.
The majority of our schools are 65% in person and 35% remote. (We are remote, and it’s been hard but fine)
Anyways, an entire grade level got sent home at a local school yesterday because of exposure. And people are PISSED.
Not that their kid was exposed.
But that they got sent home. Because they probably won’t get it. And even though everyone is exposed, they won’t continue to spread it, duh. And teachers should have to continue to expose themselves to these exposed students because that’s their job.
All things I’ve read on Facebook.
I fucking hate everyone.

I just can't get over how fucked up everything is. A family member texted me that bullshit about how only 6% of deaths were from COVID, and so I should feel good about sending my kids to school. It took me like 5 hours to calm down so I wouldn’t bombard her with facts and info. Not worth it. I just responded “thank you for thinking of me”. And left it at that. It has been explained over and over how deaths are reported. I don’t understand why this keeps coming up as “new” news.

I was like so the other 94% don't matter? They were gonna die anyway shrug?
If 6% of people died in an airplane because the overhead bin wasn't secure and luggage fell out and hit them in the head, we'd DO something about it. Not just say oh golly gee guess you take your chances when you fly, dont sit under the overhead compartment.
The selfishness is astounding. I dont understand being completely at peace with 9000 people dead of something that could have been almost completely preventable.

They list hypertension as one of the comorbidities and there are SO many people with hypertension and they don't just up and DIE from it. I'm annoyed with the dumb people but outraged at our federal government for spinning the information this way.

Oh my god. On my last day in the office (March 13th), one of our IT guys was going around saying, "see you in 4 weeks!" and I thought it was absurd. Like no way will we have to be home for 4 weeks. Well. Now I'm home until January 2021, so.

This is what I posted on FB in regards to the 6% thing yesterday (thanks to dc2london for the TikTok link): “I don't TikTok, but I'm reposting this from a friend because EXACTLY: www.tiktok.com/@dr.noc/video/6866838924111793413I see so many people posting some version of "the CDC now says that only 6% of people who died from COVID-19 actually died from it." What the chart actually shows are comorbidities listed on the death certificates in addition to COVID-19. (https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid_weekly/index.htm Table 3) First of all, some of these comorbidities, such as ARDS, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, heart failure, renal failure, etc. can be CAUSED by COVID-19. Second of all, how many Americans have a pre-existing condition? (Answer: The majority of American adults.) How do you know you don't have one that just hasn't be been diagnosed yet? Just because someone has "obesity" or "diabetes" doesn't mean that they wouldn't still be alive right now if they hadn't gotten COVID. And finally, this rhetoric is literally trying to erase the deaths of so many who perished from this disease. It is also, in a way, trying to blame those who died for their own deaths -saying "well if they didn't have <x> they wouldn't have died." How do you think this makes those with pre-existing conditions feel? How do you think it makes the families feel of those who have died? Is this what our country has come to now? That we are willing to mark those with pre-existing conditions as somehow "defective" and ignore their deaths? I hope I'm likely preaching to the choir with most of the folks on my feed, but for those who I'm not, please research and think before you post.”

I had a moment last week when DD was supposed to start kindergarten. Now she won't start until the 8th and it's virtual indefinitely. Like, my county hasn't even identified benchmarks for a return to in-person. I guess we'll see her school in 2021 for 1st grade? Meanwhile, some assholes on the end of my street are throwing a big street-wide block party for Labor Day.

I made the mistake of engaging on FB and I need to step back. Apparently I am "discounting MANY doctors that are speaking out against masks".

We were supposed to go camping at a lake in upstate NY with my mom and dad this week as a last hurrah to summer. But VA is still on the travel ban list, so the only way to visit is if we quarantine, which obviously doesn’t work with camping at a state park. And my mom and dad were going to come down here to watch the kids while we move and fix up the houses in a couple weeks, but then they would have to quarantine for two weeks when they got home. I can’t ask them to do that. Stupid fucking COVID.

Minerva hugs. I’m so frustrated with VA/Northam. Has he even acknowledged covid lately? We should be traveling to CT to meet our new niece soon and now who knows when we can do that?
