I'm reading that H&M have repaid the Sovereign grant for the Frogmore renos.
Dear god, let this be the end of what H&M do and don't do with their money.

Oops... Harry and Meghan’s Netflix deal scuppers Invictus bash For the wounded servicemen and women whom the Duke of Sussex calls “my heroes”, it was to be a global celebration of their achievements and a financial lifeline for the Invictus Games. But a starry fundraiser that the duke and duchess were to attend for the Paralympic-style competition founded by Prince Harry has been cancelled abruptly after their Netflix deal, thought to be worth $100m (£75m). The music and comedy show was scheduled to take place next June in California, where the Sussexes now live, following the next Invictus Games at The Hague, Holland. The Hollywood Bowl had been earmarked as a venue and the event was to be streamed by Amazon, with stars including Beyoncé and Ed Sheeran in the running. www.thetimes.co.uk/article/harry-and-meghans-netflix-deal-scuppers-invictus-bash-38kt5k6scHarry is suing over this article now.

“ A contribution has been made to the Sovereign Grant by Duke of Sussex. This contribution, as originally offered by Prince Harry, has fully covered the necessary renovation costs of Frogmore Cottage a property of HM The Queen, & will remain UK residence of The Duke & his family.”

Lots of articles out saying the Sussexes are now financially independent too.

Harry is suing over this article now. So many lawsuits, so little time. With all their lawsuits, their financial independence might not last. Lawyers aren't cheap.

Generally there’s a clause that you can’t make content for the competition. Which is why there’s speculation as to why the Amazon fundraiser was canceled right after the Netflix deal. Now the official reason is covid, because the concert next summer can't take place. I have doubts. So Covid caused them to cancel a fundraiser in late June but not the actual games that require international travel in May-early June? Rightttttt

Was something in the article inaccurate? They seem pretty lawsuit happy.

"Necessary renovation costs", "as originally offered by Prince Harry" and "a contribution has been made .... by The Duke of Sussex", leaving Meghan's name/title out of it. They know every word will be scrutinized...

Rightttttt I feel like by this point, they'd be working through an alternate way to stage the fundraising concert. If Verzuz can get 1m people to watch Brandy and Monica on an IG live, MWX or Invictus or whomever could brainstorm a virtual event with paid access to performances by people like Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, etc. Pay per view still exists.

It's a day that ends in Y. Oh, you. I in no way, shape, or form condone the racist and classist attacks on Meghan and Archie by the British tabs, and I give them credit for being all "yeah, we're not doing this, peace out" when they realized how toxic it was for them. But this just gives that press more fodder and makes the vicious cycle spin faster. Living well is the best revenge. Let them talk shit (although I don't think this Invictus article was shit talking and seemed to have a source in the organization). I think covid screwed up a lot of their plans, but they also seem to be making some sloppy/hasty decisions that aren't doing them any favors.

Ok... the games are scheduled to be held on May 29th. But the concert in the “Spring” had to be canceled not because of the netflix deal. Are they going to cancel the games here shortly for that to make sense?

I understand and agree that the rational thing to do would be to let the British press do what it does. Harry is not known for leading with his head, instead of his heart. And while I’ve often doubted the sincerity of the royals on certain subjects, I’ve never doubted Harry’s passion for Invictus. I truly think that he would take someone doubting his devotion to it as a massive, personal insult. It is to him, currently, as AIDS and landmines were to his mother. His life’s work.*
*this is uneducated musing based on what’s written in this thread, because I’m too lazy to click links 😂 so take with a grain of salt

Are they going to cancel the games here shortly for that to make sense? A concert is totally different. We have some sporting events allowed at the moment without fans. It's conceivable that the games can happen with some creativity and still be successful. A concert that depends on selling out a large venue is probably still off the table in LA for quite awhile and it makes sense to shelve it for the time being.

It would be pretty easy to make it a telethon format fundraiser. If you have Beyonce attached and it’s going to stream on Amazon, it would probably be a big hit.

I feel like this is one of those situations that could have been spun by a good PR team and then it would be a non-story. They seem to be surprised every time something like this happens and the press isn't *looking* to write a story in their favor. They need to be better about getting out ahead of things like this.

Harry has put a lot of himself into Invictus so to have a story come out that basically says he cares more about his Netflix deal aka money then the cause I can see Harry who is an fast acting emotional person trying to “sue”.
My guess is if people would have just waited the concert would have been changed to a virtual thing just maybe not on Amazon
