Maybe yes, maybe no? If he postpones the election... what's to stop him for postponing that too? Yeah which is why I hyperventilate at the prospect of delaying ours at all I feel like if the US elections were delayed it would mean there is basically a coup in progress by Trump and his creepers. So also makes me hyperventilate.

So Leslie David Baker who played Stanley on The Office has a kickstarter to shoot a pilot for "Uncle Stan" an Office spinoff featuring a retired Stanley Hudson. And he's been the target of some truly vile, racist trolling because of it. I won't repost.
I hate everyone.

A lot.

I can't see him delaying the election not accepting and suing over results? Yes not vacate the premises on 1/20/21? Yep Hiring blackwater mercenaries to bunker in the White House? yeah I could see that.
But I think even Turtle will stand up on the election date front.

I think many countries could delay elections and it not be a big deal. Not just NZ. but NOT the US. I agree it would be a huge crisis in the US. I took the convo above to be that people were uncomfortable with delaying any democratic elections and I just don't think it is the same thing at all in most stable democracies. I think in different countries there are plenty of situations where delays are fine, normal or even built into their constitutions for various reasons. Sorry if I was unclear.

I think it highly depends on the leader too. Jacinda Ardern? I'm not concerned that it's a power grab. Maduro? Very concerned.

Like NZ's intentions from the beginning have been to protect their people. To treat this as it is, a public health crisis. As a whole, we have not. They are legitimately just trying to keep people safe. They pushed it back 4 weeks. I just think it is apples and oranges. I agree with this. They're still doing it almost a month in advance of the deadline set by law. I'm pretty shruggy guy about it.

Also, to me, it seems like less of a deal to move an election back a month when the system allows for other instances of moving election dates. Like having the option to call a snap election early. It's not like here where the election date is set every four years from the last election.
Aside from trusting the person in charge or doing it to keep people safe, the flexibility is already built in.

roloma how is your dad? Still no power in his area of town? My great grandma got power this weekend (🙏) but the rest of my family is still without. Still no power as of this morning. I see a lot of folks posting that they are getting it back today, so I am hoping his will come soon. Alliant said they should have most people back up by tomorrow but some could run in to next week. He is hanging in there. Said he has been eating at the taco truck every day so at least he is eating. He can find ice now too, so that's been helpful. I think he is quite bored and that's taking a toll. He also hasn't been able to work so that sucks. He is self-employed and can't just pack up and go work somewhere else. Luckily his clients understand but there isn't money coming in if he isn't working.

It used to be, but no more.

Kim didn’t file until today?! Wtf was she waiting for? Also Pence campaigned in Iowa last week. Can someone more knowledgeable about federal disaster relief help me understand the process before I just assume this is more failure from Trump and Reynolds? Also I saw that shitbag is touring Cedar Rapids tomorrow. 🙄

Steve Korenaki already has his board out.
this election terrifies me
its showing. 63% of in person voting goes to 45 73% to Biden of mail in voting.
but still

Well at least with COVID, I get to sleep in later so staying up until 10 pm to watch the DNC isn't as hard.

We were redoing DD1’s bedroom during the 2016 DNC. And it was what finally made me excited for the election.
Please let this be different!
