Today started off well so I feel like it's setting a good tone for the week.
We're practicing A, the number 1, and sight words a & and.
We did a few work sheets focusing on the letter and numbers, worked on short a sound, watched seseme street's number of the day-1, and A is for adventure, then we danced to the A song and made an alligator in the shape of A.
We've been practicing her site words and when we read our book, I had her read all of the A's and and's, then go through and find the word and.
She seemed to like it, especially the song parts, so I plan on incorporating a lot of fun dancy stuff.
I've been working on her daily board and I'll pip when I get it done.

We officially start school August 17, but the kids did some setting up of their workspace over the weekend. Now I am just waiting to hear about chromebook pick up and DS1's IEP meeting.

I'll play. We just did our first day "back to school" today. I had intended to school through the summer, but someone asked my kids if they were on summer break back in June, and that's how they learned that there's such a thing as summer break. I'm a bit salty about that.
Anyway, our new binders and giant pack of printer paper came Friday and I got stuff printed and put together. I have 7 main subjects I want to get through in a day, but if we alternate science and history, that's just 6. We've done three so far today, and I'm basically out of steam to keep it moving. We may be able to get one more thing done before we head out for our first team gymnastics practice.
But the kids also helped bake this morning, so that's like one bonus "lesson" I guess.
Things we did: First chapter of Zoology with logbook, one math lesson each, one kid practiced piano. Things I also wanted to do today: Handwriting, start First Language Lessons, other kid should practice violin, and something else that I don't even remember anymore.
Great start to the year. :/

We’re starting homeschool August 17th so no schooling here today. But I do have everything all neatly planned and my homeschool room set up and all books/curriculum set to go. I can’t wait. Kida you should try GoNoodle and Cosmic Kids Yoga if your kid is liking movement. You could even stream it from your phone to your tv. GoNoodle has its own app and the yoga is free on YouTube. My kids like Banana Banana Meatball on GoNoodle.

We started today! It went well. I forgot to put together spelling lists so we're skipping that this week and library has been shoved to Tuesday because of appointments and such today.

I'm think I need to start a different program with N. She is so not interested in learning. We are also reaching the end of everyone's sanity in this house. Too many people involved in everyone's lives.

Thanks filingjointly, I'll check it out. We definitely need movement ideas. For play today we did "keepy-upy" (DD named it lol). We blew up a balloon and played "tennis" with it.

We semi-started today. The hardest part has been finding enough one on one time with the toddler being his honey badger self, but overall it’s gone well. DS is in Kindergarten. Today we worked on: Math (tracing numbers, patterns) Reasoning (finding the different object) Reading (phonics, emphasis on syllables)
Tomorrow we’ll start History. We’re using Blossom & Root’s River of Voices, and I’m pretty pumped about it after diving in this weekend.
For science, I asked him what he wanted to learn this week. He picked insects. So today we watched some videos about moths and did a drawing. We’ll pick a different insect tomorrow. On Friday, we’ll make an insect habitat from things we find outside.
I’m trying to take a “wait and see” approach as opposed to my obsessive need to plan every single thing that was overwhelming me last week. So far, so good!

I just checked our copy and the entire book is black and white so you won’t be missing any great illustrations or anything. If a page is ever formatted strangely or something I’d be happy to send a picture of the real page.

We don’t start until the 17th. I’m hoping their desks come from Ikea next week but I’m not expecting them to. I organized all our reading books, put all the extra supplies in a tote in the closet, and have their pencil boxes ready.
I want to make a menu for each week for breakfast/snack/lunch to make everything go more smoothly. They used to eat breakfast at school so I’m going to make mini pancakes, french toast, and muffins and freeze to warm up each morning.

We’re off to a slow start. We usually add in one or two things a week for a few weeks until we’re up to speed. This week it’s a daily page of work to jog their memories and then extra reading time. But we blew off today to go to the beach and watch the weather.

Our school FINALLY decided to offer virtual learning, so I have done basically nothing to prepare at this point. They will be providing most of the things we need, and since we aren’t starting until the 31st, I’m not too worried yet. We will have having a virtual meeting with the school to discuss technology and what to expect.
I do feel much further behind seeing everyone’s school areas all set up! We don’t even have a desk yet. We got a chromebook for him and put a map on his wall...and that’s it. I need to get on things but I have been working overtime and am just exhausted when I get home. But we still have time.

You guys all start early! Our district starts Sept 8. They’re presenting the final plans at the school board meeting tonight so I’m very excited for 6:30. We’re going to do the remote learning to start, but the plans are still very murky for that so I think our experience may be highly dependent on who he gets for a teacher. Fingers crossed that we get a motivated and technologically savvy one! I’m still half thinking we’ll transition to homeschooling, but we’ll give it a chance and see how it goes.

Anyone have any recommendations for a small, inexpensive desk? Not classroom desk size, but decently smaller than 48”.

Our first year, I set a cute little school area. They don’t use it at all. They use the table, the floor, lap desks on the patio... basically everywhere but the desk. So now it’s only for the computer or testing.

We would do that, but the 2 year old will be home, too, and with the floor plan, it’s just so hard to keep her away from him while he’s working there. She loves her brother! So we have to figure out something for his room since it will have to work for at least the semester.

Not starting for a few weeks here so I'm just obsessively buying books. My 5-yr old has been fascinated by all things inside the body so I got an anatomy book, for instance. Our pets are old and my dog keeps making me take him to the vet, so books about death, wee. When in doubt, books, I guess.
I'm slowly setting up an area mostly for storage but also with a little table/desk the kids already use for play-doh and coloring. Need to get my whiteboard hung up, and the world map I bought too.
Just slowly getting lined up and also paying attention to their interests to see where I can help them dive in. I'm starting a private blog to document this whole thing and have a way to track what we do, and maybe share with grandparents, that kind of thing. I like writing so this will be a no- pressure outlet, too.

Anyone have any recommendations for a small, inexpensive desk? Not classroom desk size, but decently smaller than 48”. I've been thinking about trying to find a couple of the vintage school desks on fb. I had found some a while back for $20 but didn't grab them. I'm sure they are gone by now.
