Tlex, My daughter was into a coding website that was suggested by the technology specialist at her school during the spring. It was simple things that you could type in to make the animal move left, right, etc. I can see if my daughter remembers what it was if you would like. Please yes!

I really need to fast forward to a point in my life when my kids’ poop is their responsibility instead of mine. Dreaming big over here.

I just got us Disney+. I told the kids to clean up any mess they have and I have a surprise for them afterwards. They’ve now been playing so nicely with the toys they’re supposed to be cleaning up for a solid half hour and I think theyve totally forgotten about the surprise.
I will use this time to shop for a TV because I’ve reached a place where I cannot continue with this tablet only life.

I’m making a grocery list. Food has definitely gone up - I’m spending more on the exact same things. I’m trying to figure how much is “reasonable” to stock. I have a ton of dietary limitations, and I need more calories than the typical person. When COVID started, I had 3 weeks worth of one of my diet staples because it’s shelf stable and I usually buy it on sale in bulk. And it flew off the shelf, and we couldn’t find any. I can’t maintain my weight without that particular food, and it wasn’t anywhere. One of my friends gave me some, she bought some for me every time she found it, and she actually had her mom put it on her grocery list for me, too. And her mom found a ton, and so I was ok. I can’t put into words how grateful I am to her and her mom, because my H and my mom were both looking, but we just couldn’t find enough, and I was dropping weight I couldn’t afford to lose. So it’s available again, and I have 5 weeks worth right now. And I’m trying to decide how much more is reasonable. I rotate expiration dates, and my closest expiration date is in 10 months, so that isn’t a problem. I never thought I’d be worried with 5 weeks of food on the shelf, but I never dreamed 3 weeks wouldn’t be enough, either. If you can afford it go to 2 months and store some under the bed. Then reevaluate. Being food insecure is a big anxiety and drain on your emotional health . let us know if you run low and cant find it- these women are resourceful and helpful.

It's our last day at the beach. We leave in the morning. It's been a lot of fun and DS has had a blast. I'm not looking forward to our four hour drive home tomorrow though.

This sounds like hourofcode.com, klw . It's got a lot of fun scratch games that are good for elementary-age kids.

So far I have sold bunk beds, an IKEA Kura bed, computer desk and chair, basketball goal, and small wardrobe. It’s been so nice to get rid of stuff and build up some money for the baby fund. I keep looking around my house for even more stuff to purge.

We are under a tornado watch 😳 they’re pretty unusual around here but the last time one landed it was really serious. Of course H is currently out on a walk with the baby.
ETA they just walked in, whew!

Tlex hopefully it avoids you! I’m glad they made it back. I usually have a tote ready to go during bad weather that I can take to the basement (snacks, flashlights, extra clothes, blankets, throw in our car keys and grab our bike helmets). We haven’t had to actually go to the basement yet thankfully.

With us rearranging everything DD1 has been asking to let the toddler move into her room. It would be great to have them in one room and have the other room a playroom. But I'm not sure I want to let the wild child free since she's still in a crib...

I have housekeepers coming Tuesday for a deep clean (it's my first time hiring this out and I'm so excited!), so I had some free time this weekend. Today I've been cooking/baking. I have a blueberry upside down cake in the oven, and I just prepped chicken egg rolls which I'll fry up shortly. Otherwise I'm just being lazy, re-watching The West Wing and putzing around on my phone.

This has made me realize I need to look a few things up!

I've been stressing because I had wanted to get DD (3) started in a Spanish program and then covid. But then I remembered one of her longtime sitters is fluent and a teacher, so we're talking about some tutoring. I'm not sure how often/how long a session is reasonable at her age. Who else has young kids in language classes? thatgolfb ? Not the same exactly, but I work with multilingual students who need extra help with academic English. I see my 3 & 4 year old students 30 minutes a session for play based language activities. Granted, they are emerged in English in their classroom as well, but those 30 minutes of focused learning is about all they can handle at that age.

Quoting myself to add, you can supplement her tutoring with Spanish apps, tv shows, and games like Bingo so she can continue to hear the language and build vocabulary between sessions.

It’s my favorite weather right now. 70 degrees, overcast with a slight breeze. I wish it could be like this for most of the year.
My babies are being sort of crankypants today which is not like them.
I go back to work tomorrow and I have a couple grocery pick ups to do later that I loaded up with lunch stuff for WFH. I need to also mentally prepare myself for not micromanaging my H when he takes this next week off to care for the babies. I’m so strict about their schedule and now that I won’t be controlling it, I’m feeling a little anxious.

It’s rainy and gloomy again. DD has all of the energy, but I’ve hit a wall. I’m counting down to her bedtime. I imagine I’ll be in bed not too long after she is. Parenting is full of excitement 🤣

I was aiming for that but the people keep eating all the things... arg I'm currently spiraling on how to convince my son to take 2 weeks worth of shelf stable food up to univ with him next sunday, as it seems inevitable that he will need to quarantine in his little apartment for 2 weeks. He's like, but there's a grocery store, walmart and target right there. I said but quarantine = no stores for you. He's like but there's the delivery robot. which brings cooked food. But if he gets sick and a million other kids also, the fleet of robots is going to be crazy busy and run their tires off.

Just thinking of if he does have to quarantine how practical it would be for you to carefully deliver him supplies.

It is 110° heat index and no shade in our yard/alley, and the little germ bubble neighbor boy keeps ringing our doorbell for the boys to play outside. I keep telling him no, but if we do later we will come get him. He is driving me (and the dog) crazy, but his dad is dealing with some shit today and I don’t want to give him another thing to stress over. Being close with the neighbors is annoying sometimes.

I am debating getting a tutor thought for the fall, since virtual immersion seems pretty difficult. But we will see.

@icedtea I was planning to do an hour a couple times a week? But I don’t know if that’s enough or too much lol. ETA: but she is 6.5 with 3 years of formal schooling at this point which I think helps her attention span versus a 3 year old.

While we were at the grocery store DS'S neighborhood friend called to invite him to play in their blow up pool so I took him over as soon as we got home. H put away the groceries and I accidentally got a mile walk (and then another when I go back for him.) I'm using the alone time to read with my feet in the kiddie pool

I am much happier with a very regular routine and MH prefers flexibility, more than I think the kids can handle sometimes. Aaaaannyways! Good luck. My DMs are open if you need to vent, I won’t give advice I’ll just nod along.
