byjove I’m so sorry for your loss. This is a parent’s response to what’s going on in Paulding, and then his sons response after they pulled him out. Just unbelievable. I wish the kids that bully and take off other kids masks should be forced to do virtual learning. People do suck. I took my 8 year old to the park today because that’s what she chose for our special one-on-one time. She wore her mask even when she was the only kid there because it made her feel safer. About 10 minutes later a family came and they were loudly talking about my kids mask and if she was sick. She said she was ready to leave. And then I cried when I got home and she couldn’t see. Wow. Fuck them. I assume they weren’t wearing masks so I would have said something loudly like, “It’s ok DD, you wear a mask to stay safe because other people are too selfish to think of others.” I HATE PEOPLE.

Update: we got MH's main COVID test back. He's officially negative. I literally sighed with relief. I'm pretty sure my GI symptoms the past few days were just from anxiety about him being sick. Thank God.

I've been talking to my parents who live in the northern Midwest about that very thing. I'm trying to get them to plan ahead for long days of cold, snow, and no social activities. I'm not looking forward to it. But I'll just imagine that it's like the polar vortex days and push on through. Sit at home in comfy sweats and drink copious amounts of coffee instead of trying to walk through the snow and -50 temps? You don’t have to twist my arm to stay home!

It enrages me so much. And if that person weren't white, that would not have been the outcome or the statement to the press.

Seems like has been and is being responsible about this. I hope he recovers quickly and that no one else becomes infected.

Another email coming off hot from the principal saying that they will not be allowing for changes in classroom placement to facilitate parents grouping in pods/microschools, etc. We can tune into the schoolboard meeting tonight to find out about proposed fall daily schedules.

The House committee chairs are briefing on Coronavirus right now and Clyburn said nursing homes that didn't even apply for PPP somehow got millions of dollars.
This is what happens when you let Skippy be in charge.

I also have a friend seriously considering moving to VT (since she is remote for the forseeable future) and the school situation in her city is approaching nightmare scenario for distance learning (in NOVA, not my city but close by) and parents trying to hire teachers and tutors for form learning pods and learning groups ($$$). VT has low cases and there are a lot of in person schooling options.

Well I guess that’s one thing mine is doing right. Families are grouped into the same team so they’re either all at school (like that’s gonna happen) or at home the days. Well do alternate days with 2 teams. T1 mwf T2 Tth first week swap second week

It's actually cheaper than Vermont and about the same rate of covid. We also need people lol

This is interesting... Kenya’s Unusual Solution to the School Problem: Cancel the Year and Start Over nyti.ms/31jFZu5Definitely an interesting idea. My only issue with this would be the future implications for the incoming K class. My DD is starting K and if we cancelled the whole year, her K class next year would be twice the size of a normal class. Thinking down the road to college admissions and it’s suddenly twice as hard to get into a good school. It’s thinking outside the box, though.

Where do you draw the line? What a mess. Uncaripswife anything from your school on this yet?

Tell me everything all at once when it's finalized. It sounds like your school may have a handful of parents who are regularly asking the principal for info in advance of what is coming from the school board and superintendent. Also, I have to be honest. I feel a bit frustrated at parents with the financial means to afford private tutors for their pod asking the school to make special arrangements for them. The kids in our community who really need special arrangements probably come from families that can't get a private tutor.

I have seen a lot of I'm just going to homeschool because little Leightonly and Artemis 'can't possibly wear masks all day. Its so unfair!!!' and I mean homeschool, not enroll in the virtual schoolhouse, the district has set up. Like the question "what workbooks are good to use" is tossed around a lot. Which leads me to believe they have ZERO idea what a teacher actually does.
Those people are not joining a pod or the rather robust homeschool community.

But colleges will have an "empty" year the year before, so they should have the capacity to double admissions the next year. A few years ago Germany changed from finishing high school after grade 13 to after grade 12, so there was a double year and things went well. They had enough time for the universities to prepare for the 1 year of larger cohorts.

I think I’m a mask wearer forever now. Like I hope one day it will just be in flu season but I like the safety of a mask. It will make me feel better when I have those days where I have the sniffles but need to go somewhere. I hope it becomes somewhat normal. I reflected on how it’s common in other cultures as respect to others and I absolutely will wear a mask when I have a cold in the future. It’s really not that big of a deal. Especially since I don’t think lack of sick time in my industry likely isn’t changing after this pandemic.

I don't mind the mask at all but I'm struggling with the solitude and not being able to be close to my friends and family. I know it's a small thing and I'm not going to go out and do it but I really miss socializing, going out to eat, hanging out at a pub, not worried about what I may catch from people. The idea of 2-3 more years of this pretty lonely life is hitting me hard.

all these cases getting caught only because they are about to be around The Occupant really makes me wonder what the case count would look like if we were actually aggressively testing.
It also makes me fear for further easing of restrictions bc there are clearly a lot more asymptomatic people walking around than we realize.

I Thought my mom was going to come visit this month (for about 24 hrs we were trying to work our the safest ways and quarantining, but she’s pushed it off, meaning I likely won’t see my family this whole year). I meant wearing a mask in the future for seasonal cold season.

My family lives about 2 hours away but given the numbers in both our cities we've only seen each other once for a few hours in a parking lot on Father's day. Not sure that anything beyond that will happen this year given their age and risk factors.
