I mean, this is basically what I'm preparing for mentally, though of course I'm hoping it's not that long.

I mean, this is basically what I'm preparing for mentally, though of course I'm hoping it's not that long. Yeah this does not surprise me. Once a good vaccine is developed (which will still take who knows how long), they’ll then need to ramp up production and get it to millions of people. That takes time. And if people continue being idiots in this country the virus will still be widespread in many communities. Honestly we are pretty hunkered down for the long haul here. 😕

My whole family has been battling a summer cold for the better part of two weeks. This morning daycare called me and said they were sending the boys home until we could get negative test results because between the coughing and my youngest's runny nose and shortness of breath they just couldn't chance it. Luckily, our Doctors Now office is doing rapid result tests and we were able to get the virtual visit to schedule the test, the testing, and the results all within about 2 hours. Both boys are negative, as I expected. They do a sort of mid-nasal swab instead of scraping the brain through the nose. The boys cried a little but were over it very quickly. I will probably have to bribe them bigly next time we have to get tested and I imagine it will happen a lot through the fall and winter. Ugh.

I have just assumed masks and some level of distancing will be our new normal for a good long while. Between H and I we've bought a stock pile of masks at this point because we plan to continue using them no matter what for the foreseeable future

I just read a very depressing article about how winter in the north is going to be like summer in the south in terms of people being able to be outdoors comfortably (which duh but I haven't thought about it in that terms specifically). And a general lack of trust in people's will power to go without socializing indoors if outside isn't an option and making more risky decisions.
Sigh.

I think I’m a mask wearer forever now. Like I hope one day it will just be in flu season but I like the safety of a mask. It will make me feel better when I have those days where I have the sniffles but need to go somewhere. I hope it becomes somewhat normal.

I've been talking to my parents who live in the northern Midwest about that very thing. I'm trying to get them to plan ahead for long days of cold, snow, and no social activities.

I'm following our district's school board meeting. Plan is:
- Start everyone in distance learning - Check in on 9/25 for possibility of a switch to hybrid in mid-October - If not, check in on 10/14 for possibility of a switch to hybrid in mid-November (or if already hybrid, full in-person)
Hybrid would be splitting kids in two groups for 2 days of in-person learning- Monday/Tuesday or Thursday/Friday.
There's also an option for people to choose virtual learning for the full semester. I'm assuming those who choose that are taught separately with a different pool of teachers.

I'm not looking forward to it. But I'll just imagine that it's like the polar vortex days and push on through.

I've been thinking about this as I see restaurants with makeshift outdoor patios set up right now. I was wondering how restaurants will survive but I guess I should realize that people will just not care and gather indoors anyway. Luckily our Governor has restrictions on capacity but that hasn't fully prevented the outbreaks we saw this summer.

byjove I’m so sorry for your loss. This is a parent’s response to what’s going on in Paulding, and then his sons response after they pulled him out. Just unbelievable. I wish the kids that bully and take off other kids masks should be forced to do virtual learning. People do suck. I took my 8 year old to the park today because that’s what she chose for our special one-on-one time. She wore her mask even when she was the only kid there because it made her feel safer. About 10 minutes later a family came and they were loudly talking about my kids mask and if she was sick. She said she was ready to leave. And then I cried when I got home and she couldn’t see.

Johns Hopkins study of death rate per population, blames NY/NJ, if you take those numbers out we’re great! Wow I totally missed when NY and NJ seceded. Did we sell them to Canada? I'm way late but pretty sure we traded them for Greenland.

Doug Ford, premier of Ontario, said today that kindergarten students *will* be in cohorts of 15 child like parents and educators are demanding, because there will be two teachers in each classroom. Ratios do not equal distancing!
🙆🏼♀️ I stand by my previous Cheeto Jr comment.

tweet is gone. What did it say? It said Trump was barred from Tweeting until he took down a tweet with Covid misinformation. But in reality he retweeted a post from his campaign and they are required to delete the original post, not him. Still a big deal they’re enforcing it but not the epic meltdown he would’ve had.
