So here’s what I’m thinking so far. The Peloton tread is a no go from a space standpoint. I’m going to dig for reasons why the Hydrow is a bad idea. The Tonal looks perfect but we’d have to think creatively about install bc that too needs 7’10” ceilings to fully extend. That could be a main floor or second floor thing, but all the rooms have downsides. A non-pelo tread plus the app might be good. But the same location problems I have with the pelo tread and Tonal. I think the Tonal is pretty sleek and not noticeable if you put it in the place you showed me.

New find! It’s called Tempo. It seems similar to Tonal, but it uses actual weights instead of computer generated force. And it’s cheaper and needs less space. I need to learn more about this one. I think that has a significantly less weight limit than Tonal. And I think you lift heavy.

Do I need an iPad if I get the peloton app? It sounds like the experience is better on iOS? The Android app is complete garbage. It's basically a video player and that's it. Using the website is passable, but only the actual bike or the iOS app have complete functionality. I'm honestly offended that they charge the same for Android and iOS app. Oh, and I have a friend who uses a recumbant bike with the Peloton app, so just do what makes you happy and what you have!

I’m strongly considering getting the peloton treadmill if it goes on sale for Black Friday but I wish I knew people IRL who actually have one. I know several people with the bike but none with the treadmill. If any of you have one, can you use it upstairs without shaking the whole house? Is the quality really there to justify the price or are you paying for the name? Sorry for the hijack! We’ve had the treadmill for about 1.5 years and I freaking love it. It’s super user friendly, the screen is enormous and really enhances the experience of running “with” a coach, and I love having all of the metrics displayed to motivate me. I use it almost every day. We have it in the basement, so I can’t speak to the shaking, but it seems pretty stable.

The limitation is if the walls have the necessary mounting structure. That room used to be a three season screened in porch. The walls feel like they’re not sheetrock in places. Tonal has a lot of info on how to find the right wall spot, so I need to look into it.

I keep thinking the Tonal is right up H’s alley and the Hydrow is right up my alley.
Maybe I need to work on my sales pitch to get both...

The fact that Apple even HAD an app was one of the reasons I switched to an iPhone in 2018, LOL. By the time I got my iPhone, I think they had just released the Android app. Good to know I made the right decision.

I have a strange love of exercise equipment, so this thread makes me happy. I agree with everyone though that you should get whatever you will actually use brux. It sounds like the rower is what you want, so I say go for it.

If you get a Tonal I might literally come to your basement to use it. Full circle on the brux basement jokes.

Perfect. I suppose you’d have to clear it with PinkFreud first anyway If it was a basement thing since you’d be encroaching on her living space.

If you decide to get a rower, the Ergatta looks pretty cool too. I saw that. In a couple comparative reviews, people seemed less impressed by the ergatta classes, but I'll take a second look at it.

Apparently Ellen gave everyone in her audience a Hydrow back in December. I gotta find one of those people and pay them cash to take it off their hands.

Lurker here. I got a hydrow a few weeks ago and I love it so far. I've never been much of a fitness person, but I chose it because I thought I'd enjoy rowing and the waterway scenery. So far so good. It's really fun and the workouts go by really quickly. I have the same low ceiling problem, so as long as you are ok with not storing it vertically, it's fine. Just starting to dive into the community aspect, but it seems to be active and supportive with a little healthy competition. Anyway, at the risk of sounding like an infomercial, I highly recommend it. Lmk if you have questions about it.

I've been absent from this thread for 24 hours and I haven't totally caught up, but one reason it shouldn't bother anyone that the Peloton membership on the bike or tread is $40 while the app is only $12 is that when you pay the $40, you get app access included. And you can have a number of profiles on your bike (I currently have myself, H, my mom, and my SIL), and they all get access on the app as well.
Not to at all discount what anyone is saying about non-Peloton bikes and treads, just to say that $40 is a good deal, to me.

Well now I’m laying in bed thinking about a Peloton Bike.
Pros would be everyone else seemingly loving theirs. The dummy proof, mindless ability to just robot and workout without having to think about it.
Cons wold be that I hated spin class the three times in my life I’ve tried it.

I tried out the Hydrow and a WaterRower yesterday. Just a few pulls to see how they went.
Loved both, tbh, but now I’m indecisive about the program/subscription I’d want that would make the rower worth owning.

If you can find a place that sells Peloton you can always go try out the bike to see if you like it and compare.

I did pitch H on my Tonal + Rower plan over margaritas on Friday and he laughed at me but he didn’t say no.
