RI here. People seem to be following the rules for the most part, I am hoping that we can avoid a major regression because we have the solid evidence of FL, AZ, TX to point to for what happens when you rush. That said, we only have so much control over who travels here and the fatigue is real.
I see a lot of the Queen Gina in the FB comments of her press conferences. Hell yea, queen of data. The woman loves her data and we are reaping the benefits. She and Dr. Nicole Alexandra Scott have provided some truly steady, strong leadership.
Saw a comment the other day that a bigger state is going to snap Dr. Scott up, please no 😭 I think she’s made a massive difference in how things are going here, and with a baby at home who was nine months when the shit hit the fan.

that's just....unsustainable for working parents. I'm sorry. Thank you, at least I'm in good company. Haha. I've started writing afterschool programs trying to convince them to open up childcare/day camp for K-5 kids, so this whole fiasco is kind of making me a weirdo. I don't think that is weird at all. My DD is in preK at a daycare center and my DS (going to 1st grade) goes there for aftercare and summer care and they also covered school breaks and snow days. I'm hoping that they will be able to take him this school year if we end up with some sort of part time schedule, but I am worried that it will be hard for them to schedule for irregular days for school aged kids. I'm mostly burying my head in the sand until I know more because I can't keep driving myself bananas with what ifs.

I think you are where I am. I think the most scandalous thing I've seen is that Wegman's isn't enforcing masks. Are we WNY? I'm so confused. I need to tuck tail and go back to SYR. Also hi from some region of upstate NY. You are western NY in your new city, fyi

Checking in from MA. The greater Lowell area. I’m encouraged by our numbers and am overall pleased with how Charlie Baker has been handling this. I did go visit my sister, her kids and my mom in northern NY last week. They live in the middle of nowhere and it is easy to stay from everyone. Greater Lowell? Hello neighbor! (Sorry I'm a lurker jumping in this thread. I did a quick intro in the Teacher post. I didn't make the leap over here from TCF where I was on N15).

Greetings from Maine. Our numbers have been holding steady for the most part. But as others have said we are knee deep in tourist season.

I lived right on Seneca lake for five years. Those FLX folks think they're WNY even though they get Syracuse local channels.

FUCK YOU I CANT HELP THAT PEOPLE ARE MEAN TO ME AND MY MASK WEARING FAMILY I was going to try to sneak in this thread as Ohio is basically east coast but I am going to admit defeat and succumb to the Midwest. We can be BFF’s in masks and throw glitter (from an acceptable social distance) at the dickheads who feel oppressed by a mask. You wanna summer with me too or nah?

FWIW, those of you that are nervous about the Jersey shore. I’m here now and I booked my rental long before Covid so I was nervous and not sure if I wanted to come here. I’ve been truly pleasantly surprised. I’ve driven downtown and seen crowds but nothing like the news is showing. And it’s people riding bikes, people walking next to each other, but not insane crowds. I go to the beach every day and I can easily get a spot far away from everyone. Yesterday, we came late to the beach and I am solo with my kids down here so I kinda sat within ten feet of people so I could be close to the waters edge, I got glares from every angle. I see people wearing masks at the beach. I’m cautious and I don’t do that. The kids and I wore masks on our evening walks and nobody looked twice. We met our neighbors and when I said we were from NY they took a step back and explained they were cautious bc they have a newborn (I wasn’t offended). Yes, I have seen a couple Trump flags which I never see in NY. But, I was so nervous about coming down here and leaving my bubble. Every store is requiring a mask. There are signs at the stores saying things like “respect people’s space” and “everyone is doing the best they can during this weird time, let’s remember that.” Every restaurant is doing curbside. People seem to not care if you want to wear a hazmat suit or not. I haven’t seen anyone push back on the rules. I was really nervous about being down here but actually being here and not seeing it on CNN, I don’t think it’s as high-risk as I once thought.

NH! We have a trump rally coming our way Saturday. So...let’s hope no one shows up to that for multiple reasons. And they are not mandating masks. Awesome.

I’m in a rural NY county. People are so lax here because we’ve had lower numbers. I feel often in my town like I’m on an island all alone wearing my mask. If schools don’t reopen full time in the fall I don’t want to know the revolt that will happen. Cuomo is absolutely hated in my area. As my boss likes to remind me, we all know NYC folks, but there’s a lot of blue collar out west that don’t want the government on their back. If we sawed off NYC, we would be a red state. Most people tend to forget that. I’m in a very small sea of blue in a lot of red. Yup. I feel this in my tiny red borough. Ugh it’s frustrating.

I’m so sad reading your shore posts Cher. We usually go stay with my mom in OCNJ most weekends of July but she’s not comfortable right now with that, which I totally respect. My sister lives there too but she works in a humongous long term care system (she manages rehab in multiple buildings) and won’t let anyone be around her right now. I miss my family and our summer traditions. We do have a house rented for a week in August in North Bethany that I still feel good about. It’s a quiet community with a very uncrowded private beach. We usually eat take out every night so it should be fine.

I think we will spike again, I think things might get locked down or restricted again. But, I love how serious people are being. NYC metro is no fucking joke. I’m in the Jersey shore now and yes, some people aren’t being serious, but things are still closed down, you see people taking extra precautions at random places (masks on the beach) and when I go out and make my whole family wear masks, nobody gaf. Like, I don’t encounter that mask hate here. People seem to be either doing the right thing or not gaf about the people who are. We’re in cape May and I’m seeing the same thing-every store has a huge sign about masks, they are limiting # of people in stores, servers are masked and sanitizing like crazy for outdoor dining etc. I will say only about half are wearing masks outdoors on the ‘mall’ (we are) and SD is def not happening. With Murphy’s EO today I’m wondering if that will change now. It def made me a little uncomfortable walking around/shopping and I’m not usually a nervous type.

Not sure if coastal DE belongs here but we are a hop skip and jump from Jersey shore via ferry, philly, DC, etc.
PDQ We are infected here in our little beach town. Big percentage of restaurant staff, lifeguards, teens, and young adults. I know many people who are currently exposed, positive, or awaiting results.

Are playgrounds open there? I've read inconsistent things. Obviously I assume restrictions and we'd be masked no matter where we go. We are going to our yearly beach house next week and it just so happens that good friends, also from CT, are going as well but about an hour inland. I was hoping to find a playground or park halfway to meet up, but it's hard to tell what is and isn't open. I’m on the cape now (MA resident but come here very summer). I think in MA playgrounds are town by town. We went to one at a school on Sunday and there were use at your own risk signs but that’s it. It gets used for camp during the week so we haven’t been back. I made the mistake of being lazy and going for a bike ride at 10 am the other day and the path was crowded enough that I masked the whole time, rather than just having it on me and generally being able to avoid people. So that’s hit or miss. The big ocean beaches have been fine cuz there’s space. We went to a bay beach at high tide the other day and it was hard to find a space that felt more than 6 feet from another group. And of course kids don’t sit still. So we won’t be doing that again. One way paths on and off most beaches, maybe half the ppl masked walking in and out. Almost none on the beach. But other than that one experience the beaches have felt perfectly safe. We haven’t done restaurants other than ice cream. But it is more crowded than I anticipated down here. Most restaurants have made outdoor seating areas. Honestly I won’t be surprised if we surge though cuz last weekend there were plenty of parties for the 4th that we witnessed.

I am frustrated with the whole school situation. G is in an ESY program. Her virtual summer classes started on Thursday. Things have been pretty calm here so I opted for in person services for the summer. They are supposed to start next week. So far only one service provider has called and he didn’t give me a time yet. Her virtual classes are also way more intense than they have been for the last few months. I have 6 different google classrooms to follow and actual assignments and such. Did I mention she is 5?! This is pre-k. Why can’t we stick to what we have been doing for months? She was doing great. Now I have to do 5x more work to figure out what she needs to do.
On top of that there are only 6 kids in her class for the summer because she is in an integrated class. All of the General ed kids from her class don’t have ESY. With only 6 kids, why can’t they be in a classroom?

Checking in from the DMV! Thanks for having us!
Mask usage is my country in MD has been pretty universal as far as I have seen. And people have been keeping their distance while walking around the neighborhood.
Our pool opened up 2 weeks ago, and so far I’ve felt comfortable. They’re limiting the number of people and using a reservation system. Masks are required unless you are in the pool. And people have been doing a good job not getting too close to others. It’s a god send that it’s open because camp is closed and we’re both working full time, so this is something exciting to do a few times a week.

We aren’t as far south as Cape May/Ocean City.
However the stores by us are really good. Seaside Heights boardwalk and beach were packed with no social distancing or masks. I even see it with my own FB friends where a huge group of families and kids go to the beach. Not like one or two families-but six or seven.
I think our area is just very quarantine fatigued. I see it in parents of DD’s classmates. Over the past weekend there were a ton that had family visit from out of state, huge BBQ’s, boat rides, etc. I also see others that are resigned. Like they know that in the fall things will be shut down again, so why don’t they relax and let their kids have fun now. And see their friends.
We have decision fatigue. Like every decision I weigh a million times over. Next week DD starts paddleboard camp with her best friend. It is a small group. Masks required not on the water. Etc. we bought DD her own life jacket. My parents live on the river. A couple of her other friends know how to paddleboard so we figured this would be a perfect social distance thing to do.

Our plan is to not go anywhere other than the house, the beach, and maybe a playground or two. Maybe one night MH and I will get fish fry takeout and go park somewhere and eat it in the car. We're pretty much isolating with a different backdrop for this vacation. My biggest concern is going to be trying to keep DD away from other kids on the beach. Personally I don't mind if she plays with other kids outside, but I don't know how breezy other parents are. This is the only time I really wish we had DS two years ago so she'd have someone to play with through this.

We have plans to be back in August with that setup but I’m a little worried all will be closed by then. That trip is with my parents so feels trickier too. I’m all in on decision fatigue. I kind of want to do a hard quarantine when we get home.

lizblue in the interest of triangulation, ***** is my town. If you need the break, look into ***** or I can send you my agents name for a short-term stay. I actually sent it to my friend who’s going through chemo right now. She desperately wants a trip with her kids but is understandably so nervous. I really feel ok here and feel like I can set my perimeters. Typically I stay with my mom during the summer, so I’m so glad to have my own space. For a “vacation” this is like Bora Bora in 2020.
