Weeks- 6 weeks/ May 26 The Good - it’s been so nice out we have been able to go for lots of walks and enjoy the weather! E has a few good nights (2 haha) which make me feel semi human so that’s good. The Bad - last night was awful. I think I jinxed us by getting excited about his 4 hour stretch the other day haha! His screaming and crying last night was a whole other level so it kind of freaked me out that he was in pain or something. Milestones/Appointments - just had his checkup yesterday and he weighed in at 9lbs 7 oz so not much weight gain from birth but he grew 2.5 inches. He pukes a lot. I wasn’t concerned before but now I’m wondering if that is why he’s so fussy maybe he’s starving. Question- if a baby had a lip or tongue tie does it cause them to puke too? When he drinks from a bottle he doesn’t really puke so I am wondering if that bottle nipple gives him a different latch so he doesn’t puke or something. But also maybe it’s cause he drinks too much from the breast and with a bottle he is getting a set amount? I dont even know if he has a tie I can’t tell comparing his gums to pics online lol. Just driving myself nuts trying to decide if I should care more or let it ride. I mean he did grow in length so he’s obviously getting some! My doctor said he could just be a long skinny baby so who knows 🤷♀️ To Do List - we got our birth announcements so today am going to work on getting those addressed and aim to get them out by Friday! R started day camp this week and so I can actually focus on small tasks and complete them (while holding / baby wearing E because fussy lol)

R started day camp this week and so I can actually focus on small tasks and complete them (while holding / baby wearing E because fussy lol) Poor latch due to tongue tie can result in swallowing a lot of air and then baby gets gassy, spits up a lot and is fussy. It’s also possible that milk transfer isn’t great. The best way to determine how much he is getting (According to my lactation consultant) is weigh before and after a feed diaper-less. Signed a mom whose DS didn’t have a tongue tie corrected until 5 months and who still gets oral therapy 5 years later.

Thanks for the feedback Radley! Sorry your are still dealing with the effects of this. I will get in touch with a lactation consultant ASAP because I would rather deal with this earlier than later especially hearing how it could drag on if I don’t fix it or at least look into it as an option and get some help.

aries DS1 was what my doctor called a "Happy Spitter". He would nurse more than he needed and then spit up the extra. It didn't bother him and he was gaining well so she said it was nothing to worry about. So sometimes puking isn't a problem. HOWEVER, if you're not seeing good weight gain (and/or he's fussy/uncomfortable with it) then it could be as Radley mentioned, poor latch causing gas which in turn causes the puking, or poor milk transfer, both which can be due to ties. DS2 had ties and was a really slow gainer until we got it corrected.

Weeks- 6.5 (May 22)
The Good - G is growing great. He's 11lbs 2ozs as of today, and super strong and alert. I'm starting to get a pattern with his sleep. He has a long afternoon nap and a long night stretch, then the rest are all short naps (1-2 hours max).
The Bad - Outside of his two long stretches of sleep, he pretty much cluster feeds all day, which gets pretty exhausting and makes breakfast and supper a challenge.
Milestones/Appointments - 6 week appointment was this morning. Next up is immunizations on the 22nd.
To Do List - wash his baptism gown before the weekend.

DS2 had tongue tie, a lip tie and cheek ties. He aspirated liquids for years and he has only been off of thickened liquids for about a year to year and a half. He also has speech therapy. His is a pretty extreme example though and not likely to be your experience but I definitely recommend having it clipped since poor latch gets more difficult to correct the older the baby gets and it can cause the muscles in their neck to be tight. Or as danib suggested, the tie may not be bothering him and he could be a happy spitter.

Weeks- 12 weeks
The Good - The babies are still sleeping really well, we are getting 7.5-8 hour stretches at night which is so nice. I’m a little scared for when they outgrow the SNOOs because they have been so amazing. I’m just feeling very lucky that even though there are two of them, they are both good sleepers. I also just love all the cooing and smiling they do.
The Bad - It’s just a lot of work managing two babies at once and I’m ready to go back to work. I don’t go back until August 3 though.
Milestones/Appointments - Babies have great head control now. They are both spitting bubbles too. Next appt isn’t until August at 4 months.
To Do List -

Weeks- 2 weeks
The Good - I’m feeling basically back to normal. I had a pp check up today with my OB and she said I can start light exercises. I don’t have to go back at 6 weeks unless I have concerns but I doubt I will. I only got 1 stitch so she didn’t even do a pelvic exam. V also had her 2 week check today, she’s not back up to birth weight yet, still 6oz shy. The pedi didn’t seem all that concerned about it but told me I could bring her in for a weight check in a couple weeks. Otherwise everything was great.
The Bad - girlfriend seems to really want to only sleep on me at night. Last night she had me up from like 3-5 because the second I would set her down, she’d wake up. I think I’ve figured out the problem though, I think she’s a little cold after being against my warm body. She’s dealing with some gas and congestion as well.
Milestones/Appointments - next appt is in 6 weeks for V
To Do List - nothing really aside from keeping my kids alive, ha. We did finally get my maternity photos back, which means it’ll probably be another month before we get the nb pics back but that’s fine. After I get those back then I’ll order birth announcements.

Dd1 has/has a pretty good tongue tie. It never affected her nursing/weight gain so I didn’t get it clipped. The only thing I noticed is that when she would cry she would make the sound you make when rolling r in Spanish. Which was kind of cute actually. She’s 6 now and it hasn’t ever caused an issue so it’s still tied. Her upper lip tie broke on its own in the last 6 months.

Weeks- 6.5 weeks/ May 22
The Good - C is a pretty laid back baby so far. She is #4 so she almost has to be that way. I worry about not having much of a routine with her at least started but we are at the baseball field 3-4 evenings a week so it’s almost impossible. She’s a pretty decent sleeper so far too. Usually 2 wake ups a night.
The Bad - She has a fussy period most evenings where she seems uncomfortable/spits up more from about 5-8.
Milestones/Appointments - I had my 6 week PP appointment and all was well. I started running again this week and it feels so good!
To Do List - Figure out if I am going back to work. If I stay home it will only be for 2-5 years but I’m worried about the negative impact it may have on my career.

Kids are weird.

My DD was a major happy spitter and my DS1 haD a tongue tie snipped at 2 days old. This baby has a bit of a tongue tie (our pediatrician noticed when he had his mouth open screaming during circumcision) but it hasn’t caused any issues yet so I’m not planning to do anything about it for now. Age - 7.5 weeks/May 15 The good - he’s sleeping pretty well at night and still seems to be eating and gaining fine. All 3 big kids are in camps/daycare so it’s nice to get to snuggle with him. DH is still working remotely so it’s so nice to have him help get the kids ready in the mornings. Then I take everyone to daycare and camp along with the baby. My hip/leg finally feels mostly better and I’ve been able to walk/jog a few miles at a time lately. The bad - Baby doesn’t like the car. He didn’t have to go anywhere for the first month+ of life and does not like being dragged along to drop off and pick up the older kids at daycare and camp now. Also our childcare/school for the fall situation is still such a mess, like it is for many people I think. I guess unless you have a nanny. DS2 just turned 3 and is supposed to start at the YMCA preschool where my older kids went on the first day of school (August 17th). The preschool is normally year round but has been closed since March and is reopening Monday. So yesterday afternoon we get an email that he has to start this coming Monday or he won’t be guaranteed a spot for the year. So that would mean paying double for him for daycare for a month, since we can’t just leave his in home daycare provider abruptly and not pay her for the next month as planned. I emailed the assistant director who we know from the older kids going there and she said that’s ok if he doesn’t start Monday and she’ll let us know if the spots fill up and it look like he won’t be able to start 8/17. So hopefully that works out. He is definitely ready to go to preschool so we don’t want him to miss out on the full year. Appts - two month appt a week from today. To do - I’ve toured a different private school for my older kids everyday this week. We adore our public school but I’ll be shocked if they open more than the two day a week hybrid model they’re talking about. And given my kids’ ages (going into 1st and 3rd grades), personalities, and needs, plus the fact that DH and I both have demanding jobs, I really want the kids in school 5 days a week. The private schools I’m looking at could open under current health guidelines given smaller class sizes and ability to socially distance. We’ll have to rearrange our budget and have ruled out some really expensive ones. Of course my fear is schools shut down statewide again and then we’re paying tuition for distance learning we could have gotten for free and we’d still need childcare.

sdlaura the school situation is so hard. I want my kids to go back to school but I also don’t want anyone to get sick. DD2’s preschool sent a letter saying they are planning to be open like normal, not following the public school district’s plans (which they normally do for things like weather closures). I’m pretty sure DD1, who is going into 1st grade, would be super jealous if her little sis got to go to school and she didn’t. We might skip the bus and instead I would drive her. Idk, I’m going to just go with the flow I guess. School starts on 8/27 here, I think, so we still have quite a bit of time.

trtlcrzy that’s an understandable call on skipping the bus. There aren’t any buses in our elementary school district. I’m a big supporter of public schools, but it seems like with all the regulations and need to preserve fairness/keep serving kids with special needs, and negotiate with teachers unions, it’s really tough for them to implement creative solutions to deal with this crazy situation. And now that Trump wants schools to reopen, I think my state’s democratic governor is even less likely to push for it. It’s all such a mess!

Weeks - 5 weeks (June 3) The Good - We've finally figured out that some of his fussiness is gas,so we got some gas drops that have helped a little. The Bad - His sleep is still fairly atrocious at night, which makes him fight naps during the day. I finally put him in the Ergo and vacuumed the house to get him to sleep this morning. DH is reaching out to one of his coworkers who owns a SNOO to see if we can borrow/rent it from him since their son is too big for it now. Milestones/Appointments - He has an appointment with a pediatric dentist to get his lip tie revised and check on a tongue tie. The LC thought there was a posterior one, but she wanted the dentist to check as well. I really hope this helps his latch because my boobs still hurt way too much for how old he is already. To Do List - I still need to finish month 1 in his baby book. I'd like to do that this weekend, if possible.

Do any of you use pampers diapers? Do they still smell super strongly of baby powder? Someone gifted me a couple boxes and I’m trying to decide if I just go exchange them for huggies which is what we have been using.

We use pampers and ya they smell but not super noticeable but also I feel huggies do too so I’m probably not much help! Haha k I just went and shoved my head into his diaper drawer and ya they smell like baby powder so probably I’d exchange. I have never noticed it that much before but probably will now!

It’s so weird. I only used pampers swaddlers when DD1 was tiny and then when I went to use them for DD2 I couldn’t stand how strong they smelled. I did switch to honest diapers with DD1 because I wanted to do the subscription and they don’t have a smell so maybe that’s why it was so noticeable the second time. Idk. Meanwhile I don’t think huggies have a smell really at all.

I actually ended up exchanging them for the target up&up diapers, so I will see how I like them.

Update to my breastfeeding/ possible lip tie issues: My doctor called in a referral to an Ent so they can assess for lip tie - if he has one they can clip it there.
I have a name for good lactation consultant too because I do think (after reading here and asking my mom Facebook group) he has a very weak latch (sometimes almost tickles my nipple when he’s feeding) and sucks his bottom lip in so his lips aren’t fully flanged maybe causing excess sucking and gas and could just be a happy puker like mentioned above. Plus this clinic has a chiropractor specializing in working with babies so will have that as an option too. Between all of that I feel if something is wrong we’ll figure it out, otherwise he may just be a skinny baby.
Anyone use chiro for their babies before? Did you like it/ see results?

It was supposed to help with his reflux, but I didn't see a noticeable difference. The LC recommended that I see one for DS2 because of him being born face up causing some tightness in his shoulders, but I'm not comfortable going to a chiropractor right now. Their patients around here are usually the people who don't believe in masks or vaccines, so it's not a risk I'm willing to take with the situation in Texas right now.

txaggie08Oh for sure I would not feel comfortable going to a place with patients with beliefs like that right now either. I’m sorry the situation is so bad in Texas (and a few other states) right now, really impacts everyone being able to get back to normal life. I hope you get the latch issues figured out with DS so that you can start feeling better. I remember DS1 was like a vacuum on my nipples it was hard. I cried every time he fed, and it finally got better with some help from a LC too but was pretty rough as they healed. *edit - quoting

aries we had to do Cranial Sacrel Therapy (I definitely butchered that spelling) with DS2 at the chiropractor. On top of his ties, his cheeks and jaw were incredibly tight so that he wasn't opening his mouth wide enough to get a good latch (he also had his top 3 ribs locked up, which she worked on, but that was separate from feeding). For us it made a HUGE difference. He was like a whole new child and I noticed improvement after the first session (I think he had 4-5). What they do with babies is much different than what they do with adults. It's really much more like massage.

DS2 saw an OT, a chiropractor, lactation specialist and a cranial therapist before and after the ENT visit. Honestly it was all at the same time so idk what all did the trick.
