LO is now 1 month old so I'm starting to think about pumping in the morning once a day to build up a stash for when I go back to work in August. I can't remember what I did last time, so I'm hoping I can get some advice on how to do this.
Right now, my plan is to feed him in the morning before he takes his fairly long nap (this is becoming a pattern most days so far) and then pump right after that.
Should I pump both sides or just the side he didn't eat from?
How long should I pump for? I'm thinking 10 minutes, but that's just because I'm nervous about him waking up hungry and me having just pumped both sides.
When should I start pumping? I'm planning on starting next week, but that's just because he has an inefficient suck and I keep getting clogs. He has no issue with weight gain because I have a slight oversupply. I'm working on his suck as well with guidance from an LC, so I'm hoping it improves over the next month or so.

I highly recommend freemies and pumping on your commute. (Unless your drive is less than 10 minutes) I had a hard time getting away to pump except for lunch so I pumped at lunch and on my commute. I can't remember when I started pumping but I used a haaka to collect on the opposite side when he nursed.

I have a fairly flexible job (and may be WFH when my leave is over if Texas keeps pretending masks are bad), so I'm not too concerned about not getting enough time to pump at work most days. I'm planning on blocking the time I need on my calendar like I did last time so people don't schedule too many meetings when I need to pump.

I'm jealous of the elvie. I think I pumped sporadically in the am after first feed when I had the energy for maybe the month before I went back (just before 3 months)

txaggie08 I would pump just one side. Supply is highest in the am, btw, so that would be the best time.

I would like to start this week, but my nipples are still kind of in rough shape - we couldn't get into the pediatric dentist until next week for his tongue/lip tie revision.

You can always adjust your routine. For soreness, I would get a nipple shield. I used a shield for all 4 of mine and had no issues.
