That actually does raise an interesting question, of which I'm interested in other perspectives. How do you tell, within yourself, when you truly need rest and when you are just not doing what you need to? When I used to do workouts like yours, my cutoff was go for 5 mintues and see how it goes. If I still want to say fuck it, I can walk away at that point. Most of the time I would keep going, but occasionally I was just like "nope". I have 3 off days now. I have to have recovery time. I was doing more before I started with my coach and was very much more beat up. I've been a whiny ass bitch about doing things this week and I'm a little beat up, but it's nothing unmanageable and isn't interfering with my life. If you are constantly so fatigued that you struggle with your non-workout life regularly, it's time for a break and possibly time to re-evaluate your training schedule.

I think it's more mental fatigue at this point, because honestly on the days I go back to bed, I typically feel worse later. I need to just find that part that makes myself go do it on those days. I'm hoping throwing the bike in the mix sparks some re-interest.

The novelty of a new exercise will wear off quickly if you still have a high mental fatigue level.

My new foam roller arrived last night, so this morning I did three of Hannah's foam rolling classes via the Peloton app. Man, that hurts so good. I need to incorporate those classes in to my weekly routine for sure. As far as actual workouts, I am going to take some kind of walking class during my lunch on the treadmill. I have 3 of 5 days done for this week's Pelothon challenge! Did not know they had foam rolling classes. Will do those!

Work is a major anxiety driver for me.

This year is such a fuck for so many people. Mental fatigue is a big issue for a lot of people right now.

S/O shaking it up, has anyone here done Les Mills? I thought about doing their free trial for some new cardio workouts but I don't know anyone who has used it.

There may be others, but she mentioned them on a ride I took recently so I looked them up. I think there were 5-6 of them targeting different areas.

Today I have a walk and a swim planned, and I think I'd like to fit yoga in as well, but that doesn't always work out as planned.
We are having ribs and corn for dinner tonight and I can't wait!

The peach I just had with my lunch was perfect. So, so good. 🍑 I kept buying peaches from the grocery store and trying to ripen them, but they just went from hard to overripe without ever being perfect. I was ready to just give up on peaches, but H bought some from a fruit stand and they were so good. Guess I know what I need to do.

That actually does raise an interesting question, of which I'm interested in other perspectives. How do you tell, within yourself, when you truly need rest and when you are just not doing what you need to? Girl, you do more than you “need to.” All one actually needs is 30 minutes of exercise most days. The rest is just gravy. Cut yourself some slack, get your dq and get back to a workout tomorrow.

I ran on the treadmill, only 1.5 miles though. I started a 30 minute 80s run, but I forgot to preload it and it kept buffering and I got bored without the class and stopped. Oh well. It’s supposed to be cooler here tomorrow so I’m planning on an outside run.

We had the basement carpet cleaned today and so everything is stuffed into the workout area for the next 24 hours. I *think* I’ll be able to get on the bike. I signed up for the free trial of barre 3 online to check it out.
I spiraled a little bit on the mirror yesterday and today. It really interests me but I’m just not sure. I think I can get most of the work through peloton. The barre and Pilates intrigued me the most. All the downsides I read were cost compared to going to the gym... but I don’t see myself being comfortable with that in the next year or so.

Ah, not with as high of calories as I eat. I got my DQ though, I have the crispy chicken salad for lunch and DS and I have the Blizzards after dinner. It's our weekly thing, I love it.

stayingblonde , commiseration (from me 2 years ago after ML, lol). It's such a struggle going back. My schedule needed a decent amount of rearranging after maternity leave- although, the nighttime/early morning wake ups helped in a way, because some mornings I was already up and just worked out after a nursing session or something. I unfortunately did (and do) have to lose a bit of sleep to prioritize working out a lot of the time. I am also a former 5 am OTFer, it's usually the time slot that works best for me if I am not at work by then. I am having trouble motivating myself to still work out at that time at home, even though I get to sleep in later! I hope you can find a good balance. It's also exponentially harder when the babies are small and need more care. I have had the wildest ride with this baby. I'm a teacher. I went back to work after 3 months of ML. I worked for 2 months and then schools shut down and we went home. So I've been home with him for an unexpected additional 4 months now. I feel so spoiled because I only got 6 weeks off with my first and, while it sucked going back to work when he was so small, it was also easier because I wasn't used to being home. I'm so used to my schedule now!

I got up, ate my preworkout toast, and went back to bed. On a DQ day. Yeah, I'm flogging myself. I'll do the workout tomorrow instead, but I hate the days I eat more than I should. My bike made it back in my state this morning, so hopefully it will get delivered soon. Rusty, give yourself a break! You can eat the same on days you don’t work out. You won’t gain 100lb overnight. You don’t need to earn or burn your food. You are not the same person you were a couple years ago. Did you find someone to work with to address the BDD? Hugs to you.

Remember my ridiculousness about getting a hold of a coach? Type it out, take a deep breath, and hit send. (What was mine, like 5 hours later?) And then go freak out for like 10 minutes.

Can I share a nsv. I have been really struggling to hit a 10lb loss and have been feeling a bit down this week (I know that weight is just a number, but because I have 70+ lbs to lose I want to hit that goal.) I just took my measurements for the first time since May and have lost 5 inches in my waist and hips, 4 inches in my chest and 1.5 from my arms and legs. Looks like I am doing something right.

Just did 20 minute full body with Rebecca and then 15 minute full body live with Chase. That was my first live strength class! Both were hard. I thought I would do more, but I’m spent.

How do you tell, within yourself, when you truly need rest and when you are just not doing what you need to? For me, it’s kind of a combo of knowing how much I’ve done over the course of a week, how I’m feeling, emotional stress, and desire. I want to want to work out, and I love doing it. I want that to last my whole life, and for me part of that is knowing when I need a day or two off, and knowing that it’s not the end of the world. I’ll be back at it again, and I never want to resent working out. I try to watch my food intake more on those days, but I’m not OTT about it because sometimes you just need a damn break, you know? I’m also not trying to do anything other than maintain my weight and be healthy, so that helps with the pressure. Yep, this exactly.

I’m also not trying to do anything other than maintain my weight and be healthy, so that helps with the pressure. I have the same sentiment. For me, my food/diet is for weight loss and exercise is for mental health. After years of slogging through workouts I hated, I finally realized that there is activity I truly love and look forward to (spinning and weightlifting mostly). I never force myself to do things I don't like anymore. It is just not worth it. I also don't workout so that I can eat more, I consider the two to be two completely separate things. With that regard, I don't punish myself by eating less on days I don't work out. We are all in this life for the long-haul, so one day off doesn't matter one bit in the long run. However, never taking a day off can lead to injury, burn out, exhaustion, and I want to avoid that at all costs. Separating food and working out has been a complete game changer for me, mentally. I mean there are still some days where I am like, I will do an extra 20 minutes on the bike so I feel better about having that beer later, or whatever. But in general I keep them in separate compartments in my mind. I don’t punish myself for having a treat on a day I don’t work out, and relieving that guilt that I did carry with me in my early 20s has been great.
