Hi All! I'm struggling with my skin this summer. I think I am using products that are too strong for my sensitive skin. What I'm not liking is the skin texture. I have the Japanese sponges and they aren't doing enough. What thoughts might you have for me?? I need help. Paging: emma, @tatai, @karenwalker and anyone else who wants to chime in!!

kittyriot, what kind of Japanese sponges are you using and what's up exactly with the texture? Is is dull or bumpy, breakouts? Are you using the Glow Tonic daily? with sensitive skin i'd cut that way back since it's quite strong

I am by no means anything close to an expert in skincare, but I wonder if your cleansers are perhaps too harsh. Cerave is super cheap and gentle while also very effective. Depending on your skin type, I might cut exfoliating down to 1-2x/ week. I have dry, sensitive skin and if I do more than twice I get a lot of irritation. Once a week is usually all I need. You will see a lot of us on here really rave about Klairs supple prep toner. It really does work wonders. Not that anything is wrong with the Pixi toner you're using (that I can see- amateur eye), but it's less expensive. Hopefully Taitai is able to chime in. She's great at this.

I'm coming up on my period, and I'm confident some of the breakouts are hormonal. These are the sponges I have: www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01M11DNA3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1And I don't use the glow tonic daily, I use it approx 3 times a week.

Interestingly, I have a reaction to Cerave, so I avoid their products. But I do use the Cetephil moisturizer, so I could switch to that cleanser. I am also heading to amazon to check out the Klairs toner!!

kittyriot at the beginning of all this i went hardcore on my skin and way over processed it and ended up with terrible breakouts. Basically i killed my moisture barrier so took somewhat drastic action to fix it: - I stopped using all products and only washed with water in the morning and CosRx good morning cleanser at night, no moisturizer at all for the first few days, just a small amount of snail - Then after a few days added back in my daily moisturizer (Neutrogena Hydroboost gel) - after about 1 week of just that added back in my night cream only a few times a week since it has glycolic acid (Caudalie Brightening cream) - after about a month i was back to a full routine but it's a lot less than before. My new routine is: AM Cerave formaing cleanser Sunday Riely CEO serum Hydroboost gel Biore watery essence sunscreen PM Caudalie cleansing oil or milk CeraVe foaming cleanser Caudalie brightening night cream once a week - The Ordinary Lactic Acid

I do think I've over-processed my skin. I will go super gentle the next few day to a week. If this doesn't help the skin texture issue. Do you know of a super gentle exfoliating product?

Unfortunately it's also $$$, it's one of the few products i couldn't find a good replacement from the drug store

I really really loved the vino-perfect serum. I used that when you would use your Sunday Riley.

I just sent you a pm on here. It's a close up of my face, but it will give you a better idea of what I'm dealing. It's not pretty right now.

Definitely back off of exfoliating for awhile. Switch to a super gentle cleanser (I use cetaphil but Cosrx good morning would be great too). Then moisturize. Do that for awhile to get that moisture barrier back then if you still don’t like your texture let us know. I’m still working on my texture too, super duper slow because my skin hates new things. It’s been a real challenge.

Sorry for the late reply! I was on vacation this week and took a break from my phone for a few days. I agree with emma and others here - you skin seems over-exfoliated, which will cause little bumps and breakouts. Your moisture barrier will repair itself in about 2-3 weeks if you just use a gentle cleanser (Cosrx good morning cleanser, CeraVe gentle foaming cleanser, cetaphil are all good low ph options) and focus on hydrating. I’d also highly highly recommend you try Klairs supple prep toner, cosrx 96 snail power essence, and try doing some sheet masks. My beauty diary has a really nice hyaluronic acid one - which does a good job of hydrating/soothing over-exfoliated skin. Snail sheet masks will help too. If you buy any/some of these products and want to check with us on what order to use them in, just lemme know. Once you’ve repaired your moisture barrier, a nice BHA or AHA (Cosrx makes good ones, or Paula’s choice) will help keep your pores clear and avoid future breakouts. Just make sure you start slooooow with BHA or AHA. Like, don’t use both on the same day, and only use BHA or AHA a few times a week to start. I like where my skin is at now, and I use BHA 4-5 times a week, and AHA on the days that I don’t use BHA. Even the BHA, I only put on problem areas (jaw line, chin, nose) - not all over my face. I would not use many clay products, as those can cause redness and dry out sensitive skin. Finally, once your moisture barrier is back, you might want to consider using a low % L-AA serum (use right after cleansing, this is a form of vitamin C) to smooth your skin and even skin tone. It will help with collagen production too. I’d say you should start with 10%. Start slow and then work up to daily use. Hope your skin gets back to normal soon! And don’t forget to keep up with sunscreen! I love the Biore UV Aqua Rich.

Thanks so much everyone. I’m still not thrilled with the texture but the moisture barrier is improving. I am going to order the toner recommended and reorder some snail oil. I was using it in my best routine. But stopped because I changed it up (product whore over here).

So the moisture barrier seems to be back and my skin is in better condition, I have focused on hydration. Have been using cetaphil foaming cleanser (approx every other day) and focusing on my serum and cetaphil moisturizer. My klairs toner arrived today. I am afraid to over do annything now that my face is in a semi okay space. How many days a week should I use it, Taitai, et al??

The Klairs doesn’t have any AHA or BHA in it, and it’s purpose is for hydration, so use it as much as you like! To make sure you don’t have a negative reaction to it, I’d use it once daily to start. If all is okay after 3-4 days, then you could use it morning and night (like I do). I sometimes even use it a couple times in a row, to pat in as much hydration as possible. Hope you like it! Also, great to hear that your moisture barrier is back and that your skin is doing better

I understand you, I have sensitive skin, so I need to cleanse carefully. And if you don't clean properly, you get skin irritation. I use Korean gels with massage brushes, I have Pixnor from here www.top-mom.com/best-face-brushes/. I used to have Luckyiren Exfoliating brush. It cleanses the skin more deeply. After that, you have to use a toner and cream, otherwise, you'll get irritation. I like how soft it feels on the skin.
