Weeks/Due Date/birthday - Babies are 8 weeks old. The Good - We are getting into a good rhythm during the day. They are napping consistently in their SNOOs and I’ve been able to have a little more down time to do some cleaning or just sit and eat or whatever. My mental state is so much better this time around with having my H as a partner. I was a solo parent for my firstborn and it was so hard. We are also doing our nanny trial visits this week for after I go back to work. We had one yesterday and I really liked her. Our second comes on Friday. I liked both during the FaceTime interviews so I feel like it will be a tough decision. The Bad - Just the usual, it’s pretty tiring to manage two babies at once type thing. Even though it’s nice out and we can at least go for walks, I feel stir crazy and wish I could take the babies other places. Milestones/Appointments - Their 2 month appt is next week. I am looking forward to seeing how much they have gained. Also they both have ramped up the smiling and it’s so adorable. They are cooing now too and oh man it’s cute. I decided today that I was done tracking their feeding and diapers too. They are both having plenty of wet/poop diapers per day and eating consistently and gaining just fine. I was so militant about tracking everything with my oldest for his entire first year of life and it caused me a lot of anxiety and obsessiveness. 2nd time around and I am like “meh, they’re fine.” Lol. The second (and third) born breeziness is so true. To Do List - You know what’s funny? With my first I didn’t track anything, but she was also 9lbs3oz at birth and had no weight gain issues. With DD2 I tracked feedings and sleep until like 3 months, but she was 7lbs10oz and had some weight gain issues. I plan to track this time around but probably not as long. I’m just nodding along with you tonight. I didn’t really track with my first either. He was also bigger - 9lbs 2oz and slept and ate like a champ. DS2 was smaller, not much, but a bit and due to supply problems, tons of oral problems and so on, he lost weight and struggled to eat for a long time. I tracked his eating, sleeping and diapers for months and months. It was exhausting.

I have an Apple Watch now so I need to find out if I can track with that so I don’t have to be as attached to my phone.

Yeah with my first, he was growing and eating just fine so I probably didn’t need to track food as much. But he was so shit with sleep that I always tracked that to see how much he slept in a 24 hr period. It was terrible for a long time.
This time I am just releasing it. Especially because there are two of them so fuck it.

willow this may be beyond your risk tolerance, but I’ve been taking baby out in his carrier with the cover over it. Like to target and to a restaurant to sit outside tonight. I feel pretty safe when I don’t have to take him out and we’re far from other people.

So today I put baby on his tummy on the activity mat and came back a few minutes later, and he was on his back. I think 3.5 weeks is a bit early to roll, but at least I know not to leave him sitting up high anywhere. We got our newborn pics back and I love them! Of course our photographer is $$$ and there’s no way I can decide on just 5 or 10 of the files, so now I’m handing over a lot of money to get all the files. I’m excited to design our birth announcement. Also willow right after I said baby didn’t spit up, he did for the first time that night. Still not a lot, but it figures! twopeas I’ve been thinking of you. Did you end up heading to Alaska? Thanks for thinking of me! Yes, DS & I made it up here! We landed on Saturday and leave this Sunday because I have my 35w appt on Monday. It's been nice being up here with my mom and sister, and visiting other family. Plus the weather is amazing also! I've spoken with H everyday, and I think we are moving closer to separation. It sucks for sure, but I feel like if we stay together he'd only be in it for the kids and I don't want to feel like the only working to keep our relationship together with no reciprocation. I guess at least I can start thinking about what my path forward is going to look like. But man, I'm just really still kind of in disbelief that this is my life now. A single mom. 🤦♀️

Ohhhhhh. Well this definitely would have come in handy these past few weeks! I’m kind of surprised your hospital didn’t offer it. My hospital gave me a can both times I’ve had babies. danib I second this stuff. It's so good. I've never used it before, but it's been so nice to have this time, especially with the 2nd degree tear I got.

Weeks/Due Date/birthday - 2.5 weeks/ May 22 The Good - I feel so much better since I’m not pregnant!! C gained 6 oz at her appointment yesterday and is back up to birth weight. The Bad - C spits up so much. I’ve stopped using burp clothes and have been using receiving blankets instead. I feel so bad for her. Milestones/Appointments - Back to birth weight and we don’t go back until her 1 month check up! To Do List - Address/mail birth announcements, make 6 week postpartum check up Have you ever used the Gerber diapers as burp cloths? I prefer them 1000x over anything else I’ve tried. They are the best for soaking up lots of spit up.

I got a message from my OB that my GBS test is negative! So glad I don’t have to have the antibiotic IVs this time around, because they sucked last time. Can you expand on this? Sucked just having an IV or is there more? This is my first time testing positive ☹️

The first round wasn’t to bad for me, but the second round was awful because they didn’t put the numbing stuff in it. So basically I had to lay as still as possible while it was infusing because it hurt to move my arm. Luckily if you deliver after 2 rounds then you don’t have to have any more. I don’t mind the regular IV while I’m in labor.

I hope you ladies don’t mind that I’ve randomly started posting here. I’ve been a dirty lurker this whole time but now my mom is staying here off and on helping out and I feel like I’ve got time to participate. Plus I’m so close that it’s baby on the brain 24/7 at this point.
So a quick backstory- DS1 was 9lbs 10oz at 41 weeks. I was 8cm and had placental abruption so- emergency c section.
DS2 was a vbac. I was induced with a foley bulb at 39+3 because of high blood pressure. 8lbs.
Sooo for this baby, I’ve been on BP meds the whole time, and everything is looking good. Doctor said I can go to 40 weeks if nothing changes. But at my 36 week ultrasound, they put him at 8lbs already. I’m 38+1 right now and I really thought yesterday was gonna be the day. I’ve been having a lot of sporadic contractions and yesterday was having cramps to go along with it. But that all disappeared overnight. Anyways..my next appt is at 39+1 and they’re going to do a scan to check growth but I’m thinking at that point he might already be too big to want to be induced (anything over 9lbs and I’m leaning toward rcs). I was supposed to get in sooner but she had a surgery come up and they had to push it back. I’m just obsessing about it. Going back and forth in my head on what to do. I wish I could just go into labor in the next couple days and not have to make a decision.

willow I’ve been going to target weekly this whole time including while pregnant. At the beginning of the pandemic my friends were all like getting up in the middle of the night to put in grocery orders and still not getting the stuff they wanted and I thought it was crazy because there were only like 10 people in all of target - I didn’t have to come within 20 feet of anyone. It may help that I live a mile from one and can pop over at the least crowded times.

I just figured they stuck it in the regular IV stuff and I wouldn’t even know it was going on. Eta: just reread and realized you had to lay still because they didn’t add the numbing stuff. Ouch!!

lucylou my first baby was measuring really big and I felt some pressure to induce - but she ended up being just under 9 lbs and was an easy delivery. Obviously it’s a personal decision, but I think the ACOG guidelines I researched at the time said not to make decisions based on predicted size unless there’s some kind of complication involved (like baby is huge because of gestational diabetes). I’ve never had c section, but I think if I were you and had a good experience with the vbac, I wouldn’t jump straight to a csection based on predicted size.

My sister had a cs with her second based on predictive size and he ended up being smaller than her first! So that’s definitely on my mind. My doctor asks how this one *feels* and I can confidently say it feels more similar to DS1 than 2. Like, he just takes up everyyywhere in there. And she’s been measuring my stomach and making comments that she thinks this one will be 10lbs if I go to 40 weeks. 9lbs I feel like I can do. 10lbs scares the crap out of me lol. With DS2..I only had some some second degree tearing but I swear I didn’t feel *right* for at least 4 months. So idk. I’m just nervous about the recovery.

Luckily I was induced and the contractions hadn’t really gotten bad by the 2nd dose, which I think they do 2 or 3 hours apart, so it wasn’t too bad to stay still. If I was having bad contractions that would be another thing entirely. Other than that it was nbd.

lucylou I hope you spontaneously go into labor and baby is born in the next couple of days. I get being nervous about having a big baby, dd1 was big and I don’t want to do that again. With pp recovery, I recommend seeing a PT or chiro to make sure your pelvis is back into alignment.

I honestly have no idea how or when antibiotics were given to me, lol. I know I was given an IV in my arm that they pumped fluids into a lot. 🤷🏻♀️ I had a c/s of course so antibiotics are standard either way but I really have no clue when they were given ETA: I was also GBS+ this time. I was not with my first which was a vaginal delivery.

I continued to do pick up after that during everything because I am very much a germaphobe and was even before all this started. I have been to target maybe 3 times since things started to get a bit better after I gave birth and every time I am an anxious mess. I live super close to one too and its not always crazy busy but that doesn’t quell my anxiety unfortunately.

The first dose I got in my IV was fine because they put some sort of numbing stuff in it so it doesn’t hurt. The subsequent doses they are just straight antibiotics in the IV.

Most annoying part was just the awkwardness of the actual needle in my hand.

Different hospitals definitely could do it differently.

willow have you felt comfortable getting takeout? If so, something we’ve done is taken a couple alcoholic drinks, gotten takeout, and eaten someplace nice outside. With baby covered up in his stroller. If you’re able to do that sometime (preferably while you have care for your toddler), I would highly recommend it - it has really helped me feel better/more normal to do that sometimes.

I took my girls to our local, small zoo early this afternoon and walked around for 2ish hours, and then I took the steps at work. I think that helped get some things moving because I lost my mucus plug (gross). I know that doesn’t really mean much but it’s still progress! My DH took my big girls to meet my sister halfway and they are staying there until Tuesday...so going into labor this weekend would actually be ideal. I just want to have my one day all to myself tomorrow first.
