willow and sdlaura I rented a SNOO as well. Do you mind if I ask a couple questions? I joined the FB group, but I feel like it’s given me more questions than answers haha. Feel free to ignore. 1) do you do a double swaddle? If so, what kind do you use? If you don’t double swaddle, what’s your setup like? Do you have them in the SNOO swaddle while you’re holding them and then clip it in? Or do you attempt to full-on swaddle them after you’ve laid them down? I know the goal is to lay them down awake, but I assume in the early days, I’ll be laying him down asleep and I don’t want to wake him up during transfer. 2) what setting do you have it on? I’ve heard of people in the group controlling it with the app but I thought the whole point was that is automatically responded when the baby cries. 3) Any other helpful tips? 1. I haven’t done a double swaddle yet. I haven’t needed to. It might have been better in the early days when it would wake them more to take them out of a full swaddle to feed but now they fall asleep easily after eating so it’s not an issue. HOWEVER I think I will be trying a double swaddle now only because my babies are both starting to be escape artists with their arms to self soothe and I have read good things about using the love to dream swaddle under the snoo swaddle with just the snoo swaddle zipped partly up to keep them in place. I’m picking up those swaddles today at target. Until recently, they hadn’t been escaping so it hadn’t been an issue. I never held them in the snoo swaddle, I always took them out to feed. Which like I mentioned, in hindsight it might have been easier to keep them in a swaddle while feeding when they were really tiny. If you double swaddle then it won’t be as much disruption to strap them back in after a feed. But yes we just strapped them in after laying them back in the snoo. 2. I kept the setting on normal responsiveness and I set the motion limiter at first. Happiest baby recommends that you set the motion limiter until one month. Mostly because the higher motion is pretty intense so their little necks need a bit more strength. I just removed the motion limiter at 6 weeks because they were fine without the heavier motion. The limiter only restricts motion, not noise so the white noise will still get louder which was confusing at first. I don’t know why people manually change the setting on the app. I think if you set it to higher responsiveness you shouldn’t need to adjust on the app. The only thing I manually do on the app each day is change the lowest motion setting. For overnight I have it set at baseline (slowest movement) but for naps during the day I reset it to level one because I think they have been napping longer with a little more movement. As far as tips, I’d recommend getting at least one more sleep sack, and maybe a few more crib sheets. My babies both spit up at least once every other day in their snoo so having extra sacks and sheets is nice to avoid having it all in the laundry at once. If you end up having a reflux baby and the leg lifters are out of stock (as they usually are but I managed to get some after they restocked), use a 2x4 or tuna cans under the legs to elevate and it really helps. Newborn grunts can’t totally be avoided but I have found it does at least lessen it.

It’ll be so worth it if it helps him sleep any better than my first 2 did!

It seems like in the fb group there are definitely babies that it doesn’t work for, but most it seems to at least improve it somewhat! It is hard to tell at first since it’s normal for babies to get up so frequently to eat so I think it’s around the 4-6 week mark that you really see the difference vs a normal crib/bassinet. I also have them napping 100% of the time in there now, as happiest baby recommends. That has been a game changer for me because my first born ONLY napped on me and only for like 15-30 min otherwise. I will admit that these two are already much easier babies than my first so I feel lucky. But there are two of them so it’s not that much easier in general lol. Feeding two MOTN is interesting.

My first had decent stretches before it all went to hell during the 4 month sleep regression. My second didn’t sleep more than 4 hours until we did sleep training at 8 months. It was awful. I cannot imagine having 2. You’re a rockstar!

lucylou I’m glad you asked these questions because I liked seeing what you’re doing, willow! We do double swaddle. I use a Velcro swaddleme and leave the snoo swaddle in the snoo. At night when baby needs to eat, I take him out of snoo swaddle, lay him on the bed and undo velcro swaddle, change diaper and nurse on one side. Then I re-Velcro swaddle and nurse on the other side. Burp and rock a bit and then lay him down in the snoo, turn it on, and then gently fasten the snoo swaddle and zip it up. Unlike willow, he hasn’t spit up or wet through anything in the snoo, so I haven’t needed any extra sheets or snoo swaddles. I did buy an extra snoo swaddle just in case. I did buy and use the leg lifters because I figured it was worth $18 in case they helped a little bit. The only change I made to the app besides motion limiter was to set it on very high responsiveness. I have a lot of white noise going in our room, and so it wasn’t picking it up soon enough when he cried until I changed the setting. I don’t adjust settings at night in the app. I do like looking at the app to see how long he slept and what time he went down and looking for trends in terms of whether he sleeps better if I put him down at a certain time or whatever. It’s great to have the info there without me having to record it. My biggest challenge - which is a challenge even without the snoo- is trying to decide when to go get him if he cries vs see if he’ll go back o sleep on his own/ if the snoo will put him back to sleep. Sometimes the snoo can do it and he’ll sleep another hour. Other times if I don’t run over with a pacifier right away he ends up working himself up beyond the snoo settling him and I wish I would have responded sooner. We haven’t tried it for naps yet - he mostly naps in bouncer or swing or on me. But whenever he gets on a schedule for naps we will. He’s 3.5 weeks old now.

I think the spit up might be more common for my babes because we are EFF so bottles by nature make it easier to have air pockets. It is not a ton of spit up usually but enough to wash. Also by the time I get both situated and ready for bottles, one is worked up because they are waiting for me to get the other one, etc. lol. So more air sucked in from crying. I will say after we stopped MOTN diapers that helped them fall asleep better and with less grunting. But of course that’s just something you have to wait til they get to that point.

willow my first kid was a super duper spitter upper - when breastfed, on formula, all the time till she was a year old. This baby just isn’t for whatever reason!

DS1 was a huge spitter. Like I always had to have extra clothes for both of us, and multiple burp cloths at every feeding.

sdlaura thank you so much for your response. I feel like I needed an exact step by step like that haha. And I have swaddles that look very similar to what you recommended! (I looked up the Ollie swaddle I kept seeing in the group and noped right out of there). Question- have you had to move up to the medium snoo swaddle size with that or does he still fit in the small with it on? We’ve got a lot of white noise in our room too so that’s good to know about the responsiveness. I feel like I don’t know what I’m doing on that app but I guess I’ll just have to play with it once he’s here. Sorry for taking over this thread with so many questions, ladies!

lucylou he’s still in the small snoo swaddle, but he’s tiny - was 6 lbs 9 oz at birth and likely in the mid-7s now.

I got spit up on (just a tiny bit) last night by this LO, so we may be 3 for 3 on this. At least I know that ammonia takes the smell out of clothes by now.
