It is a new month already! March dragged on FOREVER AND EVER and April just flew by. At least for me.

I enjoy this time of year and am grateful we've been able to spend more time than usual enjoying the nice weather, when we have it.
My mom gave me some zinnia seeds. I've never planted flowers as seeds, I've always bought flowers from a nursery. I planted the seeds almost a week ago and we're looking for little flowers every day and nothing yet. I had a cluster of hostas in my front flower bed that someone before us planted. They'd gotten very thick and were right up against the brick border, so I dug them up, thinned them out, and planted them all throughout the flower bed. It looks to much better. I planted the zinnia seeds in between all the hostas. It is so simple but I'm excited about my little flower bed makeover. There are 2 GIANT peonies that I need to break up - I plan to do that this fall and transplant them to my side yard. Then we have some lily bulbs that someone else planted years ago.

CoachTsWife zinnias are the easiest annuals to grow from seed and are so showy. They will also reseed and if you let them, next summer, your bed will be full again - as long as the seeds aren’t hybrids. I used to seed most of my annuals and perennials. It’s also a great way to get uncommon cultivars. I also do winter sowing and will probably start back up next yr as I’m hoping I’ll have more time as the boys grow and become more independent. Hoping to also get my veg plot going. I have 2 tomatoes, basil and peppers this yr. I actually have lots of dividing to do as well. Hoping I can spare one morning to work on the most needed one and hoping to save my anemone Sylvestris which has died out so much 😭 due to me goin,g on bed rest and then baby etc.

Guise, Have a good laugh. Today at the grocery store, I wanted to pick up a couple tubs of gelato since the were on special but they were all out and I saw the stocker with his cart full of gelato boxes so I decided to go get other things and come back. When I came back the shelves were still empty and I saw the stocker at the other end of the aisle so I thought they moved it but as I got closer, it was apparent that the guy was looking for the gelato spots so I showed him where it was to be shelved 😂 poor guy, he was probably new. Obviously I eat waayyy too much gelato 😅 he also seemed flustered so I just left him to his work and went home with no gelato.🤷🏻♀️

August Blooms I’ll be doing car pick ups tomorrow and hoping to take the kids for a ride. They’ll be so excited. I also went to Costco today mainly to pickup vitamins and since I was there, I was beyond excited to grab a rotisserie chicken and eat something I didn’t cook myself! However I was sad they didn’t have jasmine rice. I was going to split the 50lb bag with a neighbor. I decided to not get any rice and hope to be in luck next time I go in about a month or 2. I’m so spoilt...first world problems 🤦🏻♀️ Here’s a confession, I had never eaten jasmine rice until I came to the US. My country plants them but they’re only for export and not for citizen consumption. They actually export all premium goods at least when I was living there, maybe it’s different now 🤷🏻♀️

duskymonkey You can definitely get jasmine rice in Malaysia now! I would get it at Cold Storage. Not sure when it changed, but it’s there now (at least at Cold Storage). I love all the Ramadan markets in KL during the Ramadan season. With COVID, I’m not sure if they are doing them this year - no travel for me anyways, even if they were doing the markets. Also - I would have just grabbed the gelato from that guy’s stock cart! I have no shame 😂🤣

It’s May! It’s starting to get a bit more rainy here, which should be good for the air quality - I’m looking forward to more “green” days. The AQI was 35 this morning, and we went outside for 3 hours. The kids were so sweaty when they came in (it’s 94 F right now, probably over 100 with the heat index), but it was good to get some energy out and enjoy the clean air!
May - Sept/Oct is the “good air season,” so I think once they allow inter-provincial travel, we might try to go up to Chiang Rai to the mountains/golden triangle area, or maybe Kanchanaburi to check out the waterfalls at the national parks and take an old school train ride on the “death railway” - which goes over the “bridge over River Kwai.” The food in that province is so good too (mix of Thai and Burmese). So, maybe something to look forward to in June or July. We’ll see.

Lol I have grabbed things off the stockers’ carts many times. I always ask and sometimes they look at me like I’m crazy. But if it’s empty and I want it 🤷🏻♀️
DS2 started his swim lessons this weekend since places are opening back up. He loves water but hates strangers. So he does what she asks but cries the whole time.
Also, I’m wondering if he may be color blind. Is it too soon to tell? He knows absolutely 0 colors and every time I try to teach him or do flash cards, he totally guesses. Even if I put 2 of the same color items together and tell him one is red, he will say the other is black or blue or something else.

curmudgeon Like was for grabbing things off the stock cart. I don’t even ask - I figure it’s merchandise in the store, and they want to sell it, right? I’m the worst. Interesting about your little guy and the colors. Perhaps he might be colorblind? Mine could say the basic 9 colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, black, white) since around 24 months, and he was able to identify some probably around 1.5 years I think? Not sure if it is too early to test for colorblindness- did you have your 30 month wellness visit yet? Might be a good time to ask.

curmudgeon can he match colors? Like if you set out a red block, can he pick another red block to out next to it? I think age 2/3 is more “naming colors” and age 4 is when they should really differentiate colors better. Lots of kids do it before then but I don’t think they start to test for it until closer to Kindergarten My H is colorblind. They didn’t discover it till he was in K when he was coloring his tractors brown instead of “John Deere Green”. H is red/green colorblind so both our girls are carriers but only have a 50/50 chance to pass it to their sons. Red/Green colorblind is passed mom—>son. Is there a history on your side of the family that you know of? There are other types of color blindness though too - I think blue colorblind was is passed equally from mom or sad. The hardest thing for H is matching his dress shirts to ties. Otherwise, he’s just kind of gotten by 🤷♀️ DD1 is just starting to notice that sometimes H says he wrong color when she shows him her Barbie dresses or picture she colored

May is finally here! The weather was super nice this weekend so we were out working in the yard nonstop. And my pale little self got burned pretty good 😬🤷♀️
We *think* there might be a chance to sell our house (we’ve been eyeing one in a neighborhood across town so we’ve been trying to use quarantine to fix a few things up for a showing next week. We’d love a little less yard and a little more house space. I’d also love for the kids to grow up in a neighborhood of other kids so 🤞 this may all work out!

I don’t think either side has a history of color blindness. I don’t know enough about it to realize it’s genetic. He may just not care about colors. He won’t match colors of objects. And when I go through flash cards, it’s like 7 of the same color (different shapes) and he won’t get the right color if I ask him during those 7 same cards.

We had a good weekend. Did some work on the garden digging up the previous owners raised garden beds. They came out very easily, now we just have to rebuild, I’m not sure when we will be able to get materials here with everything still being restricted. I will have to figure out what we need and order for delivery I guess.

danvers Good luck with the home selling/house hunting! Living in a neighborhood, with a sense of community is so nice. We are more of a compound/condo complex situation, but I love that my kids have so many neighbors of the same age to play with. Halloween and the 4th or July/summer block parties are really nice perks of neighborhoods too!

I’m meeting with a resale shop tomorrow to sell the girls 0-12 months clothes and I have all the feels 😩😩😩😩
I’m excited to get it out of the house (especially if we end up moving!) but it’s such a definitive, final thing to sell that baby stuff.
I really don’t even want $$$ for it. I just want it gone before trying to sell/show a house and the donation centers around here are still closed due to the pandemic. A little extra $ though won’t hurt either 🤷♀️

curmudgeon I think it’s hard to know at this age and don’t worry too much. I remember thinkIng the same thing with DS at this age but he knows his colors now but still confused with Left and right 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ Lil fella is on the opposite spectrum, he knows all the colors of the rainbow and his left and right without a doubt. Also I think like 11-14%? of male population are color blind 🤔 it really wouldn’t have much impact in his life and he won’t know the difference. One of my dearest teachers was completely colorblind. He is/was a highly regarded illustrator and remarkable educator and being color blind didn’t deter him from pursuing his career. In fact he was so tuned in to different tones and shades which made his work outstanding. When he had to work in color, he had his colors labeled 😅 He’s since passed and left a tremendous legacy in the community. So privileged to have been under his tutelage. danvers thank you for the colorblind info! Really love learning from all of you!

I will have to figure out what we need and order for delivery I guess. Do you need building stuff or just gardening? Maybe try calling a local garden center and see if they can put together some fert, flats/seeds for curbside pick up? I’m thinking of doing this in the next couple of weeks. We had a frost warning last night and I of course planted the tomatoes out Sunday. This time I put them in pots so I just hoisted them back into the garage and will be dong that dance probably till then end of the month. I’ll hold off with the basil and peppers since they’re still small Till the end of the month. Growing season here is so short.

Also I have a box of random stuff for goodwill which I want out of the houses as well 😩 and I really want to lose some of my work clothes too just don’t know how with the pandemic. Maybe a women’s shelter will take them? 🤔

😅🤣 to all you stock cart grabbers. I normally do this but at this moment in time, I thought it was rude and the poor store workers, they’ve been working OT I just didn’t want to add to his stress and he did try to help me find the flavor I was looking for - pistachio, but with having to move boxes out of the way, it just wasn’t worth the effort and I really needed to get back home. I’ll get some this week 😋

I need to sharpen back my lock picking skilz 😫😤 Lil fella has figured out how to manipulate the locks. Good thing he locked the bathroom door and shut it as he exited and he announced it as he did it so he clearly knew what he was doing. It took a few tries to pick it but I need to practice to get fast. He did lock me in the room this evening. I was taking a shower and he came in to harass me and when he left, he locked the door and exited. I took the opportunity to sit in the room for some extra minutes before dinner whilst hubs dealt with them 🤣 It was bliss!

I remember eating my first marshmallow, it was the best thing I ever bit into! LOL! I am not sure they will be doing the Ramadan markets this year. If they did, it will be small scale and controlled. From what my parents are telling me, they are extremely strict with the SAH orders and sounded like they are going to enforce it until Ramadan is over. The food stuff is so OTT and OOC during this time! BTW I made a pot of chicken rendang today with nasi lemak. Not spicy so the kids can eat it too. It took me 2 days to prep all the spices!

That's all you can do and if you're concerned, just bring it up at this 3 yr appt. Mine is the opposite. Hubs and I keep saying that DS never did this and that at lil fella's age. It's hard to not compare but now I am seeing that DS has some challenges we never realized because we didn't have a frame of reference either. Now we do and sadly it's his little brother. 🤷🏻♀️

Today was supposed to be my niece's wedding day. 😞 They moved it to July; hopefully that works out. The boys are ring bearers. 😍
I found out yesterday that my company is continuing to have us work from home through 6/26. DH also found out yesterday that football cannot start until 6/22 (was originally scheduled to start 6/1). With daycare closed until August, these extensions make it easier to have the boys at home.

We are going to go break 7 weeks quarantine with the girls and see my inlaws tomorrow for Mother’s Day. They have followed all SIP protocols and whatnot (much to my surprise) and seen no one outside of limited, socially distant interactions they’ve had to have for work. The girls are so excited to see them (or probably just any person outside of H andI🤪). This has all really been tough lately for DD1 so I think it will be especially good for her.
*all subject to change if SIL comes over. We’ve said we will not go or will leave if she shows up because they have not SIP at all. They have not seen MIL during this time so hopefully she’ll wait till actually Mother’s Day to come over. Then we can just wait the usually 2+ weeks after whenever SIL does eventually go over before reevaluating when to visit again.

We are about 90% potty trained here. A few accidents here and there but poops are going in the toilet now. I have an unopened box of pull ups and a half box of diapers I can donate. They are starting to try to open things up so hopefully the need won’t be as great but I’m sure a second wave is on the way. duskymonkey and Taitai All the food talk is making me hungry! danvers We are probably going to start seeing my mom too. They are about to give the all clear for small family groups to interact, and I may need her for childcare if I need to work and the daycares aren’t open yet.

Happy Mother’s Day O17! The girls let me sleep in till the late hour of 7:00am! No big plans except for maybe a walk and nap and maybe takeout. A lazy day is really the perfect gift though! The laundry is actually all caught up and done though so that in and of itself is a Mother’s Day gift (anyone else feel like they’re doing MORE laundry while SIP than before?!?!!) Taitai you should totally celebrate Mother’s Day twice a year, today and in August (July?) for over there too! .
