I’m pretty sure my buffs are the same size as my barred rocks. I will take photos!

My Easter eggers are our smallest. Our buffs aren’t any bigger than our black australorps (sp). You could check into Bantam breeds, same as regular breeds only smaller. I think buffs come in a bantam size if I remember right. rugger

Out of all our girls, I think my buffs are going to be the ones to go broody the most. One of them already has a tendency to sit on the nest for awhile and collects all the other eggs under her while she lays her own. There have been times where I’ve went in and took the eggs out from under her and then she seems to lay her egg and gets out.

I have 2 different sets of buffs. My 2 lightest buffs are several years old and quite fluffy. My 3 youngest buffs are more red and much smaller at less than a year. Here are 3 buffs next to an Americauna. With my bantam roo in the background. Here is biggest buff from right with a juvenile barred rock and full grown australorp (I think) to the left. Buff side by side with americauna. And finally side by side with a (presumably) australorp.

Thanks tj ! They are definitely fluffier than the others, but I think they'll be ok. R now wants a Buff and a gold-laced Wyandotte. And now A wants a lavender Orpington b/c she wants "a gray one to name Storm" and also a Buff Orpington to name "Sunny". Lol. So that's 3 Orpingtons and 1 Wyandotte. That'll be fine, right??

I think so! I want lavender orps also! And I’m going to get some frizzles Bc I know a sweet 4h girl who raises them. My bantam girl is a gold laced Wyandotte bantam. She is broody as all hell. We have to take her out once a day to get food and water. But she’s also by far my sweetest and most easy going hen.

Ok but now I’m second guessing myself. All my chickens were in groups of 4’s. Except my bantam gold lace. And she clearly gets picked on by the other hens. Like she has no one on her team. Could you do 2 and 2?

I'm not sure that's how it works? The chickens don't know what they look like unless you give them a mirror, how do they know who their "buddy" is? My same breed hens never stuck together. I think as long as you get them all at the same time you'll be fine.

Or maybe I just pair them up of my own biases. Eep. But I still feel like Evelyn gets left out and picked on. Maybe Bc she’s so tiny?

I think it would be more of a concern with bantams vs. standards... though my chicken lady says as long as they're raised together it's okay. But if there are other non-bantam hens that bully her, everyone could pick up on it.
I vote if they're all standard and you get them at once, you're fine.

My silver laced wyandottes are always together. They're quiet and beautiful. The Americaunas I have are also favorites here, small, quiet, pretty. Our RIRs are the most obnoxiously loud birds and they're huuuuuge. The silvers have always been interested in inside and definitely come tapping at the door.

And while I'm here posting photos, our dear sweet puffball, a golden comet who has given us a nice brown egg every day since she turned 16 weeks, popped out this monster this morning. Here it is next to one of her regular eggs. It's more like a duck egg. Poor thing.

But seriously, this is literally right now. It's always the silvers.

Oh my goodness. One of our chickens got caught in the automatic door and died. Omg. I’m kind of freaking out over it. Has anyone had anything like that happen with an automatic door???

Omg. I’m so sorry! Wait, when? Based on when you posted, did it close at an unexpected time!!?
Feeling glad H is my automatic door closer, and A the opener.

Ohh no tj! I'm sorry, how traumatic. I have heard of that happening but mine closed soo slowly I couldn't imagine it ever happening here. And actually the one we have wouldn't close all the way if a chicken was in it because it would just sit on top of them and the lowering wire would just go slack I think?

But Bc everything is automatic no one went to check until almost afternoon here. We have lazy egg layers so we usually wait till later.
