I've had a disappointing day today. I placed an online order at Joanne's for mask fabric (so I could go grocery shopping, they've issued mandates on masks) and waited all day for the email saying my order was ready. Its currently 6:05 pm and its still not ready for pick up - and we have no groceries. So, I ordered some take away from Chili's and when I get there to pick it up, they inform me they had a power outage and their whole kitchen is closed.
So, shit. The saddest thing is I had ordered dessert from Chili's because its CD3 and I really, really wanted some.

cythe Oh man, that really sucks. I’m sorry. Is it acceptable to use a bandana as a makeshift mask when going to the grocery store? Not sure if you have one, and I don’t know what the rules are in the USA right now. Also - I have to limit my coronavirus news/discussion intake, or else I find I get too anxious about it too. I went in to the GD thread once, and was like - nope. Not that it’s a bad thread, I just can’t do it. Hope you find some groceries and something tasty to eat tomorrow! 🤗

I am getting less and less optimistic that we will be able to go to the USA for our annual summer visit in July. Really sad about that, but I have to make sure that we don’t have a situation where we leave and can’t get back to where we live. Also - having to do two 14 day quarantines on the beginning and end of the trip would just be a deal-breaker for me.
The bright side may be that we can bring the kids back in the fall? I love fall weather and all the changing colors, and it would be awesome for the kids to have a real neighborhood trick or treat experience....along with a pumpkin patch visit, apple picking, all that good stuff. So I’m keeping that in my head as plan B+ 👍

Taitai your plan B sounds like a really great trip. I love Fall. I'm sorry you had such bad luck yesterday cythe. We have been ordering food for pickup occasionally lately. We want to support local businesses but also, it's the one thing we have left to look forward to as a treat. I hope you were able to figure out another way to get some dessert!

Well, today has been a bit better. Ev was a giant, hot mess earlier today so that was difficult. But, we ordered Chili's for lunch, made a crappy mask out of material I had at home to go grocery shopping, and I was able to pick up my order at Joann's. I'm pretty pleased with my fabric purchase, but they didnt have any interfacing in stock which is really annoying. I'll try and attach a picture of my fabric so you can all hem and haw at my pretty face masks too haha.

How's everyone doing?
We had 2 really nice days (so warm we had to turn the A/C on) and got a good amount of outdoor play in. However, last night a cold front swept through and it's freezing now, and we had to turn the heat on. UGH. It is supposed to rain all weekend, so that's not great. It is going to be an odd Easter, that's for sure.

@coachtawife Yep - an odd Easter indeed! I am going to try to keep up with all of our traditions though. I have all the Easter basket stuff ready for our kids, along with plastic Easter eggs for a treat/money filled egg hunt at home. We’ll make almond easter cookies with buttercream frosting, and we’ll dye some duck eggs. Fun fact - it’s impossible to find white chicken eggs here. They simply don’t bleach the chicken eggs, and the only white ones available are salted duck eggs! They work just as well for dying though, so that’s good.
Not sure what we will do for food - probably something that everyone will like. The kids are very excited about the Easter Bunny this year. We have been watching the Here Comes Peter Cottontail claymation movie by Rankin Bass - it’s always a hit, and I like that Danny Kaye, Vincent Price, and Casey Kasem voice the characters

Taitai I have Easter basket stuff ready, too. We are usually at my Mom's for Easter so I never have to worry about food, so I'm not sure what we're going to have food-wise. DH wants a turkey (bleck) and I'd prefer a ham (to which he says 'bleck') so who knows. lol

I have some stuff for their Easter baskets. I’ve asked H to get in the attic for all our eggs. For food, we are getting takeout from a seafood place.
DS1 is at my parents house today and I need to find the energy to clean and organize his room before he gets back. It’s soooo messy. Why does he have so many toys with tiny pieces.

Our school district finally got it together for distance learning to figure out the rest of the school year. It does mean that both H and I have needed to go to our schools to make copies for students. I saw my teacher bestie and my heart was full. She stayed at her desk, I at her door on the opposite side of the room, but it was so, so, so, so good to talk to her in person.
*I very much believe our district is breaking tons of SIP policies by having us come in and make copies BUT we are a high, rural poverty area so we have to do something to meet the state requirements for. Everyone seems to stay 6+ ft apart, no groups, tons of sanitizer and Clorox wipes around to clean whatever gets touched (copy machine, stapler, etc) and most everyone stayed to themselves in their classrooms. It’s still not ideal but 🤷♀️
Also the quiet and solace of my classroom, away from a toddler and preschooler, make me want to go in more. We live 3 minutes from my lil’ country school and... it’s tempting y’all 😬

I did it! DS’s room is super organized and clean now and has the lovely aroma of bleach. I rearranged his furniture too, and when he got home he was so excited. He ran to his closet and asked if I organized in there too. Now to see if this lasts the weekend.
I also made THE WORST brownies from a random recipe I found online. I knew I should have followed my gut when it called for olive oil instead of vegetable. H took one bite and gagged. 🤣 I was so mad I wasted all the ingredients I typed and deleted a comment on the woman’s blog post.

Happy Easter to those who celebrate! We had a really nice weekend - it was especially nice to have some Easter traditions to keep us occupied. We dyed eggs on Saturday, had an Easter egg/basket hunt this morning, and then made Italian almond flavored Easter cookies this afternoon. We sent about 1/2 the cookies to various neighbors, and we are trying not to eat the rest. They turned out really good. DS1 and DS2 were even more into the Easter egg hunt this year and the Easter Bunny, which made it more exciting for DH and I to witness too.

Happy Easter! The boys finished their egg hunt just in time for the dark rain clouds to roll in. It should start storming any minute, which makes for a nice cozy day at home.
H wanted to skip hiding eggs because he didn’t think the boys would care. He’s teaching virtual Sunday school right now but when he’s done I’m going to ask if he still feels that way after seeing the excitement on their faces and the screams each time an egg was found. DS1 is all in on the Easter bunny. I don’t think I ever was and we don’t really hype it up like we do Santa.

Happy Easter! It is cool and stormy here today so we did our egg hunt in the yard yesterday. The boys found their Easter baskets first thing this morning and had fun with that.
There's a case of CV at the nursing home my grandma is at, so that's elevated my anxiety the last couple days. There's an outbreak at a nursing home about 15 minutes from us and 2 people have died so I keep seeing headlines about that nursing home, then I heard about the case at grandma's. Ugh.

Praying your grandma wasn’t exposed CoachTsWife. Are they testing all residents or just those who may have had contact or showing signs?

CoachTsWife I’m so sorry to hear there is a case of CV at your grandma’s facility. Praying that they were able to quickly isolate it and that she doesn’t catch it.

curmudgeon Taitai it sounds like it was isolated quickly. The person arrived there after discharge from a hospital and was isolated. Then transferred out after displaying symptoms of CV. My worry is it being transferred by caregiver. The facility my grandma is at is in a very small rural town, and though I'm sure they're doing their best, I don't trust that they have all the necessary equipment and training to handle something like this. They are not testing anyone, no nurses/caregivers or residents and I'm disappointed and frustrated about that.

I really hope that testing becomes more widely available in the USA. It’s frustrating to me when I hear so many people in the states can’t get tested - especially those in (or working with) high risk groups. Grrrrrrr.

Happy Easter! My kids were so excited to do their egg hunt this morning (inside because Canada and snow) and loved the clues for baskets that we set up. They had wAaaay too much sugar today but overall it was a good day. Technically DH is off work tomorrow but he is going in to work OT for a few hours and the kids and I are just going to take it easy and do some crafts, maybe bake muffins

Try the tubes first but if it's like 9 yrs, you likely need new tires as well, they may be cracking. Also if the tires have been sitting flat for a long time, the tubes may have gotten pinched by the rims and it's best to inflate it off the ground and check it partially inflated to make sure it's sitting in the middle of the rim and tucked in centered in the tire before fully inflating it. Also check if the valve is fitting the compressor correctly? Thank you for these tips. We can try inflating off the ground to see if that helps but I'm not sure how to do the bolded part. It has been sitting in the garage for years, so I'm sure the tires/tubes aren't in great shape.
Maybe I can find a bike shop that'll let me drop my bike off curbside and they can take a look at it. Or I'll just wait until all of this is over.
Sorry just logged on. Typically when replacing tubes, you’d partially inflate it to get it between tire and rim to prevent tube getting pinched by tire and rim. Also I’m sure your LBS would appreciate some biz and if it’s been sittings collecting dust sounds like your bike could use a good cleaning and lube which is greasy 😬

Happy Easter. Added to all that’s going on, I’ve been sewing masks and have made dozen so far. Most have been sent to NYC to friends and family there and I’m working on ones for seniors here but I’m almost out of fabric 🤷🏻♀️ cythe the Joann by me is closed and I’m not about ready to drive 1 hr to do pick up 😤 show us your pretty masks. I also had to make bias tape 😖 which totally slowed me down. Anyways will need to catch up later this week. We had a great Easter Day. It snowed and is frigid but I made it out on my bike to ds’ buddy in the hood to throw a bunch of Easter eggs for his buddy to find 😅 and got a bunch out to the neighbors kids backyards as well. We also dyed our first eggs ever! DS begged this year so we did it. I’m pleased since I’ve never done it before. Both kids ate them for lunch.

duskymonkey Those masks and the eggs look great!! So nice that you have been making them to send to friends in NYC. N99 masks have always been kind of a way of life for us, due to the pollution out here, but now I’m slightly appreciative that we are used to wearing them and have plenty, given the craziness that is the world today.

duskymonkey that mask is so pretty! My grandma made masks for everyone here. Mine doesn’t fit exactly right (no idea what pattern she used) so I actually ordered one online but hers will work in the meantime. I can’t imagine actually asking DD1 or DD2 to wear them so hopefully we won’t need to use theirs.
