My oldest still whines and complains about having to do math.

Ironically we were on a break at my parents’ when this all went down so our life is pretty disrupted and we have minimal school supplies with us. H is sick after possible exposure so we’re staying here for the foreseeable future. The kids are worried about their dad but enjoying their unlimited screen time and free range outdoor time.

We’re still pushing through with our reading and math curriculum. I actually need to order the next level because I think we’ll finish before the end of the year, and we school year round. I’m thankful for having a couple of acres and our own play set in the backyard. It’s cold and dreary, and snowed yesterday, but they still can get out if they want.
I’m struggling with all of their activities being cancelled. They crave that time out of the house with their friends and it’s hard. I’m such an introvert that I don’t care at all for me, but I care for my kids who are struggling.
We lean unschooly aside from reading and math and I kinda hope that all these forced homeschool families can see how much learning happens organically. Or that we somehow seem less strange for homeschooling after all this is over.

I saw a meme that I would never share elsewhere because 99.9% of the population won’t see the humor right now, but it was “oh you’re homeschooling? But what about socialization?” It made me laugh.

I miss gymnastics classes soooooooooo muuuuuuuuch. Otherwise, things here are the same. Ironically, we did very little schoolwork last week because I pulled out the magnet tiles and I couldn't tear them away to get any work done. So I'm trying to fight them back into getting some work done this week. I see all those schedules people are sharing and part of me wants to laugh it off because we've never used a schedule for anything here. But then part of me wonders if it might actually help us. But probably not.

violajack if you didn't use a schedule a month ago odds are a schedule won't help you now. I've kind of always wished we had more structure. I'm not sure if it's just that I suck at structure or that we're all just not structure kind of people.

I'm not sure if it's just that I suck at structure or that we're all just not structure kind of people. We have a super loose schedule and it works well for us. We colored the clock face for whatever subject I was to be working on, like reading is red 9-9:30, math is orange 9:30-10, etc. Then the afternoon is bigger blocks of quiet/catch up time, free electronic time, and then family/dinner/bedtime. It gives the boys visual cues for what we’re generally doing with being strict with it.

Thanks! The colored clock blocks is the idea that's been most appealing to me when I think of some kind of structure. I just have to fix the big clock. Looks like today's first lesson will be screwdrivers!
