curmudgeon Yay about your uncle!! I am so happy everything went well and that he will be coming home soon! Fantastic news! danvers I still have 2 cameras and use a video monitor for both of my kids. We put it on relay at night, so it switches between the two rooms every 6 seconds or so. We shut the screen off and just use audio now, but it’s nice to have the option to turn the screen on if we hear something, speak to them through the camera (tell DS1 to go back to bed), or even for the day to check on DS1 if he has been suspiciously quiet in his room for a while. I would replace it, because for me - the peace of mind and ability to remotely check in on the kids is worth it....again, that’s for me! duskymonkey Wow - your meal planning and leftovers creativity is goals. I can’t cook at all, and DH plans all that stuff, so I don’t have a ton of ideas. But I can tell you what we have been having: -cashew chicken with white rice and peppers -Thai fried rice with veggies -BBQ pulled pork sandwiches with Mac and cheese and steamed broccoli -tonkatsu ramen, using the leftover pulled pork (no BBQ sauce) from the sandwiches in it, along with hard boiled eggs and shredded cabbage salad with sesame dressing -Hawaiian pork burgers with corn on the cob and watermelon -nom tok moo (a very tasty Thai roast pork dish) with rice and ginger garlic stir fried veggies -pad ka prow moo (pork stir fried basil with rice and cut up green beans) -spaghetti with meat and veggie sauce

How many O17 mommas use a monitor in babe’s room? 🙋♀️ Our video monitor just broke and H doesn’t think we need to replace it. We only need the receiver, the camera works fine and they're not hugely expensive Yes we can hear her if she calls out (or, more correctly I can hear her) but.... others 017 toddlers still have them right? My main argument to H is that it was actual more useful with DD1 once she was out of the crib because we could watch her shenanigans if she didn’t fall asleep right away/left her bed or speak over the monitor to her as needed for things like “go back to sleep it’s still night time!” Ours mysteriously stopped working a while ago and we just left it. Then she started her sitting up sleeping thing and I felt some sort of way about not knowing what was going on so we fiddled with it and it suddenly started working again! TlDr, I didnt think I gave a crap about it but then I suddenly really did and was looking at replacing it. You can always get one of those super cheap audio only ones if thats all you're after.

Little Ev update for those who asked -
Thankfully her sitting up sleeping thing only lasted a few days. Shit sleep was had by everyone during that time but she seems to have fixed it, and has even started sleeping on her belly which is like, so not like her.
Walking is coming along great, she's zooming everywhere and learning about uneven ground. She still looks wobbly sometimes but she's learning and doing great.
Language is harder, she's not really showing much interest in using her words. She lets out this god awful howl when she needs something and basically its up to me to come and figure out whats up. She has a handful of words but in the last few weeks she hasnt really used them much at all. Our EI is cancelled for the next month so thats pretty rotten timing for all that.

danvers thanks for the book recos! I will look into them and I think DS will enjoy Flyguy. Also I had a duh moment, I should check the Caldecott book accolades for titles! As much as I want him to read chapter books, at the end of the day he's still 5 going on 6 and loves looking at pictures. Like he reads the Polar Express flawlessly and all of Jannell Canon's books and the illustrations are just as divine as the stories. I actually forgot I have several Caldecott book titles I need to dig out, he just has to be careful since they're signed by the illustrator/author. Picture books are my weakness. I have over 200 in my classroom to choose from when reading to my fourth graders. We do “a book a day” and try to read at least 180 by the end of the year - my new favorites are narrative nonfiction that are all true but written like a more traditional story instead of a biography or history textbook. Picture books are great for teaching elements of plot, the setting, character changes and development, problem/solution.... and they’re super fun to read together too! Enjoy those stories and snuggles - I can’t wait till DD1 and I can read together! 🥰

cythe Awesome news about E doing well with walking, and that she is sleeping like a champ! Sorry about the EI being cancelled - the virus issue is really screwing up so many aspects of everyone’s lives. Hope that E continues to enjoy walking around, and thanks for sharing the update!!! duskymonkey We LOVE picture books. Some favorites with great drawings: -If I Built A Car by Chris Van Dusen -Owen by Kevin Henkes -Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes -Jumanji -Cloudy with a chance of meatballs -Dragons Love Tacos -1&2 -The Day The Crayons Quit -Where the Wild Things Are -Here We Are by Oliver Jeffers -Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good very bad day

danvers we still use a video monitor for DS2. We stopped using one with DS1 around 23 months when we switched it to DS2 room. DS2 is in a twin bed and doing well (for him) so if ours broke I don't think we'd replace it. But it's nice to have for naps. He wakes up cranky and if I see him crawl out of bed sometimes I can go in his room and comfort him before he starts wailing. We cook most meals at home all the time so our food schedule is mostly the same. It is nice not having to fix lunches every night though! DCP is still waiting on her test results.

cythe super happy to hear about E's progress. Stinks about her speech EI. Can the therapist send you some instructions to work with her? Also are you quarantined? Stay healthy and safe! Taitai thanks so so much for more book recos. I love love love Kevin Henkes. He's a super super nice person and I was so stoked to have had the privilege of hanging out with him. DS loves the Dragon Taco book as well. I do like the story but personally not such a big fan of the illustrations and the way it's written. Not a very popular book by Allsburg - The Garden of Abdul Gasazi is just so beautifully composed and showcases his exceptional and brilliant draughtsmanship. IMO the best illustrated book of Allsburg. danvers DS mostly reads on his own now and is obsessed with books. Before bedtime is typically when we choose a challenging book for him and I watch him read and help him with big words. I don't know how we got here...he was just a baby what seemed like only yesterday He's obsessed with Mercy Watson titles now and Taitai , tonight he started reading Stuart Little which he likes. BTW tell me about nom tok moo. Do you have a recipe you can share? I totally forgot about pad kra pow and used to make it pre kids. I think I may still have Thai basil seeds left I can sow this year. Hopefully it's still viable, OMG! it's gotta be over 5 years old. oops! How are you guys holding up over there?

I really don't want to add on to the doom and gloom but please send some good thoughts for my BFF's sister's family. They're in Paris and they have CV. Her BIL is a doctor and her sister works in the hospital too and both their kids have them too and they're sick. Our governor mentioned that from statistical calculations with the exponential cases in the state, he was told the state would need 7K more ventilators to fight CV. In a happier tone, this evening lil fella and I had a convo LF: Mommy, I love you and you love me Me: How do you know that? LF: You give me lots and lots of hugs and kisses! Daddy too! He gives me lots of kisses too! Me: What about Koko? ( DS ) LF: He pushed me and I have a hole on my head ???

duskymonkey We will definitely check out The Garden of Abdul Gasazi! I really love Allsburg too. Have you seen Clara and Asha by Eric Rohmann? The illustrations are whimsical and so dreamy - love that one too. Mom tok moo - we ate it tonight! It’s sooooo good. We eat it with sticky rice and som tam (papaya salad). Here is a recipe that looks legit: Nom tok Moo: Our nanny uses pork neck for this, as it makes it more tender. You can also use pork tenderloin. Below recipe uses beef, but we like pork better. www.thaitable.com/thai/recipe/nam-tok

We are in NY and thanks to NYC's inability to stop touching things yes we are all quarantined. The state is very much shut down so we're just kind of hanging. The EI therapists have been cleared to do sessions via Zoom so we are in the process of getting that set up

Our county finally issued a “stay at home” order but made sure to mention how they are unable to enforce it. So that’s helpful.
DS2 was supposed to start swim lessons Thursday and the teacher was refusing to cancel/postpone so we’ll see what happens now.

Hey everyone we are healthy and have TP but a little stir crazy. DS is doing virtual school and he loves it. I am working from home. Do not love, but at least i don’t have to wear big girl clothes. I am mostly recovered from surgery just some ugly scars that I guess will heal over time and no ab exercises for 2 more weeks.
Of course now I look fab but can’t go out anywhere to show it off. 🤦♀️
Little one is talking up a storm and legit drawing pictures that are recognizable. 😯
We have like 3 dinners we rotate through because we are not creative and too busy to do anything complicated. Thank heaven for vegan corn dogs and buffalo wings is all I can say.

Oh no duskymonkey. Not good! I, too, appreciate not having to wear big girl clothes bootsorhearts1! I have a steady rotation of sweats and decent looking shirts that look ok on video conference calls. Haven't worn jeans in over 2 weeks and don't mind one bit.

duskymonkey Noooooooo! bootsorhearts1 Glad that recovery went well and that you are happy with the results!! I am with you and CoachTsWife - soft pants all day every day while WFH. Jeans are so not comfortable - how did I wear them all the time when I was young and not care? Oh yeah - kids ruined my body...never mind... curmudgeon So, the CDC says that COVID-19 cannot spread in the pool, provided the chlorine levels are adequate. The issue is that little kids spit and blow bubbles and touch everything - outside of the pool in the shower/locker room area included. Too bad they won’t pause classes or provide makeup sessions for a later date.

But she’s not an “essential business” so she really should postpone lessons. I’ll just bring some wet ones to wipe down everything as we enter and leave.

Thanks Taitai, because my mom was making me panic and telling me I should just forfeit the cost of the lessons and not go. I was torn. I think we’ll go unless she has a change of heart and announces she’s closing for now.

Thanks Taitai , because my mom was making me panic and telling me I should just forfeit the cost of the lessons and not go. I was torn. I think we’ll go unless she has a change of heart and announces she’s closing for now. A few things that I tell myself during all this: IF we would somehow bring home the CV, one of the only saving graces that I have is knowing that kids repeatedly get a mild version of the virus and that she would hardly even know the difference between this and some random cold. It wouldnt even register on her little radar. A friend of mine who works in the pediatric respiratory ICU thingie says the scuttlebutt is that kids have an underdeveloped receptor his exact text was "theory is with kids that the receptor allows something something something isnt mature in kids and makes intracellular shit prohibitive" so there you go lol. Highly scientific and official Of course this doesnt mean we should go out looking for it. Assuming places are also implementing good disinfecting practices of locker rooms and such, I would probably feel comfortable letting E go. Just my unsolicited advice

We made it a lazy pajama and Pixar movie marathon day. It’s cold and rainy out so we just did puzzles and games and coloring and snacks while Pixar movies played in the background.
On the plus side, potty training is going really well (except for the poop issue 💩). She now wakes up dry from naps and bedtime and asks to use the bathroom right away - and by “ask”, it actually goes: “Mommy, come get me up! I have to go potty! Get me out of crib now!” as loud as she can until H or I come in her room.

So homeschooling isn’t really happening but DD1 is in kindergarten and I’m not too concerned. She’s got some educational apps on her iPad, we read and I tore out some worksheets out of a bunch of books I have and put them in a folder thing that she can access to practice. Mostly it’s play and fighting and they help me make food or ask for snacks.
I worked all weekend and it was more stressful and mentally exhausting. My H finally got a firm approval to work from home occasionally and found out his work will top up his unemployment if they get laid off. Somehow they are on the essential service list and able to operate. I’ve been pushing him to do more for the employees because so many are stressed with the potential job loss and possibly having spouses lose jobs already, so he’s making sure the staff knows what could happen next and health and safety measures are in place. It’s going to be rough with no breaks or shared days off going forward but it could be a lot worse.
My IL’s finally made it back from Costa Rica, so that’s one piece of good news, now we will see if they follow the instructions to self isolate.

August Blooms Doesn’t your MIL have some serious health issues as it is? I hope they self-isolate and practice social distancing - it would seem like the common sense thing to do. But the stories you have shared about your MIL have me skeptical. CoachTsWife Has your DCP received her test results yet? It would just figure if she has it. Has she been self isolating since returning from the cruise at least?

Taitai she has not, as far as I know. She had to be closed all last week, and was closed Monday and Tuesday this week as well. We haven't heard if she's closed today. From what I know, only one family needs her to provide care, as both parents are considered 'essential'. She was told she would receive the results by Sunday but she did not. I'm sure she's frustrated and surely self quarantining, hopefully all of her family is. Her husband is in IT and hopefully working from home.

Guys, I went to the grocery store today (first time in about a week) and I turned the corner to the meat section and found the shelves ALMOST COMPLETELY FULL. I about cried. There were no restrictions on the number of packages I could purchase, which is a far cry from last week when I could only get 2 packages of meat total. I also was able to find some paper towels, which we actually ran out of before the paper product shopping spree happened, but I didnt think I needed to hurry to get more.

Taitai My SIL and I were chatting today and of course my MIL was not thrilled with self isolation but I think my SIL very much emphasized the need to. Since she is super high risk with all her health issues I hope she’s going to take things seriously. cythe I went shopping Friday night and I had to limit my ground beef and chicken breast purchases but the rest was a free for all. It had me feeling all the feelings too.
