DS1 loves the original Jumanji and really wanted to watch the 2nd one. So I let him without looking at the rating (PG-13). There were a lot of shits and asses said in the beginning for a 6 year old. But we powered through because I wasn’t going to waste my $3.99 rental fee dammit. He fell asleep and I may have cried at the end. This is making me want to watch Jumanji and see if DS would be able to tolerate it! Do you think I should probably get him to read the book first? He's like a wuss and will run away at the scene of the marionettes in Polar Express. He also got super upset reading the first chapter of Harry Potter and I thought he'd be ok so we've stopped reading it - he woke up MOTN the night we read it and had a nightmare. oh man that’s a tough one. DS is 6 and usually likes things that are scary (he begs to watch The Ring but that is a firm no). And I think he got scared at the beginning when they start to play the game and everything starts coming out of it, and the boy gets sucked into it. I think we turned it off and tried again months later when it came on tv and he was fine. So I think yes, I’d try the book first. I hope he enjoys it. I loved the original when I was a kid.

Taitai how are you and read about the Thai soldier. Sorry about all that is going on over there. We’re okay over here, but it really has not been a great month. So many sad/stressful things over here, like the Korat shooting, horrible smog/pollution, and then -of course- COVID-2019. I don’t think the coronavirus thing is going away either - I feel like they are not testing for cases here, and we’re just sitting on a pending outbreak. I’m not really worried about my personal safety, but I am concerned for everyone out here who are elderly, very young, or with compromised immune systems. But, we’ll get through it. On the happier side, I booked our trip back to the USA for the month of July. So excited to see family and have the kids run around in the temperate (for us) weather!! How are your parents? Are they over on this side of the world now? Given their age and everything going on, might not be a good time for them to do long-haul travel right now.

Oh no! Poor E! Do you guys have a video monitor around still? Maybe you could just turn it on and keep an eye on her, so if it happens again you could ease her back into a laying down position. If you don’t have a video monitor, perhaps there is even a used one you could borrow/buy from someone? Hugs - that’s hard. Thanks We do have a monitor and we tried letting her sleep tonight for a bit like that, and then go in and lay her down. She immediately starts crying and sits back up and we start back over at her falling asleep all hunched over. I dont know how to make her just... not. Its currently 10:30 and she's slept for maybe 20 mins and its all been hunched over. Poor E. One thing to hopefully ease your concerns is that kids are really flexible at this age. Maybe she’s not as uncomfortable as she looks? I would just worry about her breathing - just making sure she is able to get enough air. Hopefully this is just a phase and E will go back to laying down in a more traditional sleeping position. 🤞🤞

cythe 👋. no advice on the standing and sitting. Would she lay on mattress on the floor? Would you be able to do lay with her and eventually “sleep train her to stay/lay there on her own? I say that as I wonder if DD2 will just use her crib till Kindergarten because the thought of a big bed for her makes me exhausted. Taitai I hope you all continue to avoid the virus. But yay for a US-bound trip! curmudgeon DD1 can watch any of the Jurassic Parks (thanks H 🙄) and not blink but the beast from Beauty and Beast sends her hiding 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️ I loved the original Jumanji as a kid and I read the books Jumanji (and the spice version Zathura) to my class every year! doodlemommy how was your trip? Was it full of sunshine? Because it’s 0°F and 5 inches of snow here and I could use a beach and sun!

Anyone do anything special for Valentine’s Day?
H and I got takeout and watched a movie in one room while the girls had a “picnic” in our sunroom and played. Very romantic over here 😂
99% of the candy the girls got today from their class parties will disappear to my own classroom soon. I much prefer the Valentines with stickers or those scratch/color pictures because it’s kept them occupied. Curses to the mom who gave out the whistle lips though!

Well I yelled at the 2 year old and put him to bed without reading or singing. I feel like a crap parent but he’s just so mean. He whacked his brother in the forehead with a matchbox construction truck thing. This was totally unprompted. I don’t know what his deal is, and brother has a tiny hole in his forehead where the truck poked thru his skin. 😭 H is working late and on his way home finally. I’m trying to resist the urge to open my wine before he gets here.

duskymonkey surgery Monday 😬 tummy tuck and some lipo. They actually stitch the ab muscles back together like a damn internal corset. And they remove a bunch of skin and have to relocate my bellybutton. I mean, yes it is dumb to go through all this for beauty. I know this. I just want a waist again. And for my hips to be widest part of me again. And to not be shaped like a fucking egg. 😆 Taitai stay safe, thinking about you guys! I’ve read the virus isnt too bad for kids actually, but older people and immune compromised people getting hit hard. So scary. I hope they get it under control soon. cythe oh silly E! I kinda remember my big kid going through that at one point like he literally would sit up and not know what to do next. It took a few nights of gently laying him back down several times until he learned to do it on his own. My sweet boy, not very coordinated but such a lover! He gave me this little button pin for Valentine’s Day I teared up! Hope everyone had a lovely valentines! 💕 💋

curmudgeon I agree, he will be totes fine and not even give a second thought about things in the morning. Hopefully he learned that smacking people with toys isnt nice. Thanks for the advice guys. Google says its normal for kids to do this and that it's safe for her to just... be. Folded in half. All night. I basically don't believe them but im letting it go. She will figure it out. Hopefully.

bootsorhearts1 Getting a tummy tuck is not dumb at all! Don’t feel bad for one second about getting your shape back - I think it’s awesome you are doing this for yourself, and I can’t wait to hear about the results! Hoping that the recovery goes well, and that you are back on your feet with minimal down time! curmudgeon Like everyone else said, your DS2 will be fine. Kids love to test limits at this age, and he won’t remember a thing in the morning. cythe I am sure E will snap out of this phase, and in the meanwhile, maybe she’ll get some extra flexibility? One thing about kids this age, their bodies can bounce back from anything. What looks uncomfortable to us, maybe isn’t bothersome at all to them. danvers I’m impressed that you and your H can eat in a different room from your kids, while they play an have their own picnic dinner. That would last all of 5 seconds in my house, before food was everywhere and the boys were fighting each other 😂🤣. Maybe in 5 years. Maybe.

It’s a long weekend here which my work schedule has line up with perfectly, a rare occurrence for me. I bought a ton of storage from Ikea this week so I’ve been organizing and building. Our over the range microwave broke so DH spent the better part of yesterday working on that.
We didn’t really do anything for Valentine’s Day but yesterday we went out for dinner and watched Frozen 2 with the kids. I still have to figure out dinners for the week and grocery shop since everything is closed tomorrow

February feels like the month that never ends...
My parents came down for the day Saturday and told H and I to go on a date while they watched the girls. H really, really wanted to see Bad Boyz For Life and, for never seeing any of the other movies, I was not disappointed (but also had zero expectations so there’s that too). It was the perfect, mindless popcorn movie and I remember barely a plot line two days later 🤷♀️😂🤪

danvers How nice you two were able to go on a date! It’s great that your parents are so helpful like that. August Blooms I hope you all had a nice holiday weekend! Meal planning is not my strength and that falls in my H’s area of responsibility. I have no creativity at all - even if you put me in a grocery store, I’m like....ugh....let’s just make tacos. 😂

I survived surgery. I’m pretty pitiful though, I need help getting out of bed and walking down the stairs. I have drains in for about a week so I can’t shower. 😬
Anyway it’s nice to not have a lot of responsibilities. I stopped taking the opioids they gave me and switched to tylenol. I feel more clear headed even if they don’t work as well.
It’s like a csection but a bit worse in terms of discomfort but unlike a csection I don’t have to look after a baby! 😆

Well my friends, I officially at what, 27 months have a walker 😂
Her sleep has fixed itself and we are back to normal except now she zooms everywhere and nothing is safe anymore. Having a mostly immobile child was really nice, minus the bit about having a mostly immobile child.
Im hoping now that walking is out of the way her language will follow, which everyone assures me it very well could.

Way to go E!!!! That’s so great! How has speech therapy been going? Have you seen any progress lately? Um speech is slow. She has a handful of words - still mostly animals/animal sounds. Almost all the therapists have said that once the gross motor gets itself sorted that the fine motor (specifically speech) gets itself sorted next. I will say I've noticed more imitation lately so im anxious to see that blossom further.

cythe Yay! Awesome news about E walking now. I’m so happy for you!!! I hope the speech will follow, just as the experts say. That potty is cute too! bootsorhearts1 Glad to hear you are hanging in there! I wish you a speedy recovery, and it seems like the worst is behind you. And just think, in a few weeks, you will be walking around like normal and enjoying the results! doodlemommy Good luck with PT! I am sure you are ready to not have 2 kids in diapers!

Well it’s 10 am and we have had no accidents but also no potty use 🤷🏽♀️ I’m guessing he’d recently peed before I took the overnight diaper off. Pushing liquids and trying to sit on the potty every half hour and hopefully at some point we will have success!

Good luck everyone doing potty training! We’re the laziest potty trainers. Little one will go if we put her on there but she’s not telling us yet when she needs to go so we’re assuming shes just not ready yet. 🤷♀️

It may be time to move DD2 to a floor mattress - for the second time this week I knocked her head on the side of the crib laying her down for the night. She doesn’t even cry, just says “Ow Momma!” sorry kid! 😬🤦♀️🤷♀️
