I bought a bottle of a vegan nail polish called Ella+Mila from Target last week. I painted my toenails with two coats plus a top coat.
I went swimming one day, and then I looked at my toes the next day and the polish was completely gone. As if it had never been there.
SO WEIRD!
Moral of the story: I guess Vegan nail polish shouldn't be a thing.

I lurked this thread yesterday, found someone by me that does fancy nail art, then I went to Target and bought that no bite stuff because my nails are so awful, but I want them to be pretty. I'm not kidding when I say I used to bite my nails back to my elbows lol. I actually stopped biting my nails the day my Gram died in September and lasted about a month. I thought it took a month to break a bad habit? I must be an anomaly.

I thought it took a month to break a bad habit? I must be an anomaly. No, I don't think so. I've always went through stages where I'd grow them out, then bite them, then grow, then bite. If my nails look good, I'm in a good place anxiety wise, if they're nubs, I'm not great. This is the longest I've ever went with out biting them and also the longest they've ever been. It's been since June. I did have a spell where I bit them a little in October but I was able to reel it in before I got crazy with it. Idk if I'm cured or not but I'm enjoying them while they're here lol. Also, I'm sorry for your loss.

Halal nail polish goes kaput pretty quickly too, just FYI. I can usually get 4 to 5 good days out of it. that's why I do my nails at home, I can't afford that many salon trips.

It took me nearly a full year of regular manicures - first using dip powder (like acrylic), then downgrading to gel - to rid myself of that "urge" to bite them. You'll get there too! I can manage regular manicures at home now, but my cuticles are still a hot mess. The lady at the salon today recommended collagen hand masks 2-3x/week, and I need to use my cuticle oil on a more regular and frequent basis.

I used to never do my nails; it was a combination of not knowing what to do and working in healthcare where polish is usually forbidden. But it’s fine at my current job, and I’ve been eyeing my coworkers beautiful manicures, so I started to get a few myself, but dang that can add up quickly! So recently I’ve tried doing my own dip nails, and I’m pretty happy with how they came out this last time. It’s not a wild color, but it’s out there for me - I usually just do a neutral nude. (I couldn’t get a good picture of the color - it’s a lavendery, mauve shade)

Nonniedee I found her tutorials after this thread started. I really like her and have been spiraling. Ds2 now has sparkly toes with a purple/mauve base because he saw me playing with polish last night.

Here’s my cutesy mani. I’d prefer a rose gold accent, but this is what I got. It also reconfirmed my dislike of how all salons file and shape my nails. I’ll do it myself before I go next time and just have them clean the cuticles and polish.

bobyn I file and shape my own nails, even when I used to get salon manicures, I'm fun like that.

bobyn I think the salon shaping and filing was what initially drove me to look into doing it at home. Because it literally didn’t cross my mind to just shape them myself before I went to the salon 🤦🏻♀️

Lurker with a question! I have stopped biting my nails and would like to wear polish more regularly. I have one issue. When I was in high school I slammed my thumb in a car door and lost that nail. When it grew back it had ridges and a large divot. Is there a product that exists that would fill in and smooth out this nail?

I dont have any that I've tried but I know ACI has one called Bridge the ridge. I've never personally tried this one but their other products are good and it's not a bad price. I want to think Sally Hansen has one as well.

I don't think that one treats ridges, like gets rid of them, I think it more just fills them in for polish to smooth over.

I will try a ridge filler under the polish and hopefully that will minimize how terrible that nail looks.
