My oldest is immune compromised. It was a big factor in deciding to pull him from public school. His kindergarten year, he missed months of school. He had colds and stomach bugs and then missed basically the entire last quarter with meningitis. His first grade year was similar (minus the meningitis thankfully), and then when he missed two weeks with the flu a month into second grade, we were DONE.
So we lay low this time of year and avoid everyone as much as we can. It’s rough, especially with a kid that already has medical special needs. On top of that, antivaxxers are everywhere here, especially in the homeschool population. Our state’s vaccine participation rate is below the threshold for herd immunity, and DS1 is recently recovered from chicken pox.
I hope you all feel better quickly, and don’t feel bad if you have to skip out on social events for your own sanity while cold and flu season is in flu swing!
