Last year my goal was 52 and I read 41. My goal will be 52 again this year. My favorites were Daisy Jones and the Six and Red, White and Royal Blue. I don't really have a least favorite because I DNF anything I'm not enjoying. I used my library for 99% of my reading this year. I have a fabulous huge county system that will send my holds to my local branch. I love it. I don't usually like the same books as you guys in this thread (I read mostly YA and romance), but I like to follow along anyway. Same. It’s a real “calgon, take me away” genre for myself.

I think I'm the only one who didn't love Where the Crawdads Sing. I made myself finish it but didn't get the hype. i gave up on it - I found it boring and overhyped

In 2019, I took a break from the news and binge watching tv and ended up reading 116 books, over my goal of 100. I am a fast reader though.
I love reading series books, especially fantasy, so my favorites of the year were Holly Black’s Folk of the Air trilogy, the Bear & the Nightingale trilogy, and both series by Sarah J Maas.
Other than a handful of books I DNF, I was disappointed in The Hating Game and the Caraval series.

I read 213 books in 2019 (plus a bunch of fanfic but I don't think that counts for anything lol). I rated 12 5 stars on goodreads, my favorites were:
- This is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel (contemporary fiction) - The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai (historical fiction) - Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi (historical fiction) - Normal People by Sally Rooney (contemporary fiction) - You Think It, I'll Say It by Curtis Sittenfeld (contemporary fiction- short stories) - Beastie Boys Book by Michael Diamond and Adam Horovitz (memoir) - A Ladder to the Sky by John Boyne (contemporary fiction) - Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup by John Carreyrou (non-fiction) - What Is a Girl Worth?: My Story of Breaking the Silence and Exposing the Truth about Larry Nassar and USA Gymnastics by Rachael Denhollander (memoir) - The Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker (romance) - Moloka'i by Alan Brennert (historical fiction) - How to Survive a Plague: The Inside Story of How Citizens and Science Tamed AIDS by David France (non-fiction)
For Christmas my ILs got DH and I an Audible subscription for the year (I get 99.9% of my books from the library and there are some things they don't have on audio) so I'm excited for that this year.

I'm super late to this one but I sometimes avoid hyped books but since I liked the movie, I am reading Crazy Rich Asians and plan to read the rest of the series. I think there's John Grisham book out that I haven't read but that's all that is for sure on my list.

I was disappointed in the Caraval series. Yes! It could have been so good, but it was lacking coherence.

I think I'm the only one who didn't love Where the Crawdads Sing. I made myself finish it but didn't get the hype. My MIL loaned me this book over the summer but it's been sitting on the shelf. Just by reading the description it has absolutely no appeal to me at all. I'm mildly curious because so many people loved it but I'm just not motivated to read it.

I'm going to jump in this year! I read 46 books last year and had a goal of 30. I'm going to stick with 30 this year. I read mostly non fiction but read a lot of fiction over the summer. I don't work much in the summer so it is great for reading. I'm currently reading The Soul of America by John Meacham. I want to read Just Mercy and The Sun Does Shine. My goal is to continue to increase reading books by diverse authors.

My goal for 2019 was 70 books/25k pages. I read 88 books and 27,917 pages. I’m going to stick with the 70 books goal again this year and not worry about pages but keep track just for my curiosity. Last January, I bought a nice leather bound journal and I wrote every book, author and page count down last year. It’s kind of nice to see what I read and it’s a good reference if I ever want to look up an authors other books to find something new to read. I’m doing the goodreads challenge again for the third year. I really like how it opens me up to new authors and genres. I’m starting out the year with Where the Crawdads Sing. I was on the waitlist at the library for ages and my Mom got tired of waiting for me to read it so we could discuss it and got it for me for Christmas. I am on a million people long waitlist for where the crawdads sing as well, lol. Took me fooooooorever to finally get that one. Well worth it, though.

I think I was the only one who didn’t care for it that much i never read Gone Girl but did see the movie. I also couldn't get through Girl on the Train (i think about 1/4 of the way through) but watched the movie. Basically they are all the same and all bad

I read 27 books last year, short of my goal of 30. I faltered halfway though or would have blown past it. My favorite was Beneath a Scarlet Sky by Mark T Sullivan, and The Ragged Edge of Night by Olivia Hawker. Least favorite was Girl, Wash Your Face. I set my goal for 30 again this year. I finished A Pledge of Silence by Flora J Soloman yesterday, and High Achiever by Tiffany Jenkins (audiobook) last night. I enjoyed them both. Currently: Listening to Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng Reading - Those Who Wander: America's Lost Street Kids by Vivian Ho And listening to Little Women with my 9yo DD before we watch the movie later this month. I have a visceral, angry reaction to Girl, Wash Your Face. She is such a plagiarizing privileged little brat.

I mean I rolled my eyes at some but I thought it was good. Now I am like what was I thinking?? I’ve unsubscribed from all of her content but I still hate follow her IG. She is really annoying and so unaware of her privilege

My favorites last year were The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and One True Loves. Red, White, and Royal Blue for honorable mention. Least favorite was Verity. By a lot. Just finished Autoboyography by Christina Lauren. Very sweet YA. I really like Taylor Jenkins Reid. Check out Maybe in Another Life by her if you haven’t already. I think it’s my favorite of hers.

Oh and I forgot on the girl, wash your face hate train - how awkward was her story about her now H? Like he was a straight up ass and she laid it bare in that book. Wow.

I finished my first book of the year (American Royals) and it was fine. I can always tell I really loved something when I’m reluctant to move on to the next thing and this is not that. Like I would recommend it if you like YA and/or royalty tropes, and I’ll definitely read the sequel when it comes out this fall, but I don’t feel like I need my usual detox period before starting the next thing. Cute, but a bit predictable. No book hangover...3.5 stars.

Wow I need to step up my reading. I just finished We were the lucky ones, and that took me two months. I read a little over a book a month last year. I liked Midnight Son but it’s about a local crime- short quick read. Starting Devil in the white city tomorrow. Love devil in the white city. If you like it, dead wake is my other fave by him.

I finished The Last Houseguest and it was very meh. I felt like it was trying too hard and there were several plot holes. I love thrillers because I read them fast, but I haven’t found one that is actually good in a long time.
