Woke up to an email that the parents are doing a group teacher gift 🙌🏼 One thing to check off my list. Phew. I'm the odd one that this would bum me out. I enjoy putting the teacher gifts together. I do a movie bag with popcorn, glass bottles of soda, movie box candy, a code for a Redbox movie, and nips. They go over really well, especially the alcohol part. I figure if they're dealing with my kid for 8+ hours a day they more than deserve something to take the edge off. But I totally get why a group gift would be better for parents and teachers.

So I’m glad it’s out of my hands.

sheilathetank that sounds adorable. Maybe I will do that next year. This year I am doing a cute holiday oven mitt with cookie mix inside and a target GC ( piratecat I got them when they were on sale 😉) So covering all the bases while doing the least.

Ugh can I vent for a minute. My apartment is still a construction zone and I am going crazy. I wanted to get a Christmas tree this weekend but I don't know how we can with all this stuff in my house. I just want to be festive damnit!

I just want to be festive damnit! Can you get a mini table top tree instead for now? Also check out the dollar store for kids craft kits. I got a bunch of foam snowflakes, stickers, and pom poms and let DD go to town. We hung the snowflakes on all the windows of the house. Little things like that that won't get in the way of the construction, but give you some sort of Christmas cheer.

They had some really cute holiday magnet sets there too that you push each one out and decorate the fridge with.

sheilathetank that's a really good idea. I will try to go by later. I think I am just being extra mopey because this is the first year we are staying at home instead of traveling (by choice). I just wanted this year to be magical because my kid is starting to get it.

I just wanted this year to be magical because my kid is starting to get it. Trust, it will be magical for them. There are so many little things you can do to bring the magic at this age. Adults associate Christmas with lights and a big tree, but it's really much more: family time together, craft projects, cooking/baking, visiting friend and family etc. You make your own traditions and they'll find the magic in them.

Just to let you know what a unicorn your child is, I'll let you know window sticks is instant "mom it won't stick" "mom it ripped" "mom I hate this stupid one" "mom ...mom..mom...mom...." And yet I keep buying them anyway because I'm an idiot.

My kid has refused a diaper all day and hasn’t had any accidents! He even pooped in the potty on his own! This is so bizarre hah. Except it’s nap time and he is refusing a diaper or a pull-up so I’m scared for our bed.

Oh man. So he stayed dry during the nap. He woke up and I say hey let’s go potty. He said no. I said come on, bud. He sat on my new carpeted bedroom and then started crying and I realized he was peeing 😐 So it was okay. He’s back in diapers now but he did really well. He’s been doing this more and more lately, usually with our nanny. Today was the first day he did this with me, because usually I ask and he’s like NO POTTY. so, mild success!

I would call that a big success! He may not have been awake enough after his nap to realize he needed to pee right then, but then he got it when he was in the process of wetting himself. The fact that he was upset about it is a good thing! Baby steps.

PDQ
I had to email DDs school today because yesterday during a tantrum DD attempted to choke and shake me, not once, but twice. It was very alarming as this was obviously a learned action, not a basic lashing out like a smack or kick. Once I got her calmed I asked where she learned that and she told me that a friend of hers at school, that she's known since DC, did that to her. She used the word "choke", named the friend, was very matter of fact about everything. We had a long, long talk about how no one is allowed to touch her like that or try to hurt her.
The good news is the school responded immediately to my email, I had a good long conversation with them, and they will be looking into it further and making sure nothing like that ever occurs again.
So yeah, didn't have to burn it down, but my heart hurts about the whole thing. I keep coming back to where the friend could have learned that and it sends me into a spiral. I want to go back to the parenting where my biggest worry was about whether to start feeding her solids via BLW or doing cereals. This other shit is not fun.

sheilathetank, I'm sorry, how scary and your right, completely nerve wracking wondering about the other child. I'm happy that her school handled it well with you and hope your DD is okay. Parenting is so damn tough sometimes, hugs!

Oh gosh sheilathetank that is sad and worrisome and scary. I’m glad the school was so good at responding. It does make my heart hurt to think of how the other kid learned that. Let’s hope it was an inappropriate movie or tv show and not something constant in her home. 💚 Also scary for you to have experienced that your DD! My gosh.

ambiguousmango, jt2378, that really means a lot, thank you. I have an appointment with the midwives tomorrow morning. I feel like I've just been waiting in limbo forever. I don't know what I'm expecting... well I think I'm expecting the worst, or at least telling myself to so I don't get my hopes up. I've also been trying not to think about what might have to happen next until I have to, which seems extra complicated with the looming holidays.

Yikes sheilathetank, that’s so stressful. I’m glad the school seems serious about addressing it.
