I'm at work now. The ENT wants to do another set of tubes so that is scheduled for Tuesday. He's not sure if he'll be able to place a tube in the right ear because of the size of the hole that is currently there (if it is too big, the tube would just fall out). He's going to try though. While he's sedated, he'll do a nasal lavage which is sort of like using the neti pot but fancier and penetrates deeper. He ordered an ultrasound for his salivary gland (where the parotitis is located) to check for stones so I'm waiting for someone to call me to get that scheduled. No antibiotics for now, since we've been through all of them already, but if the parotitis gets worse, I'll need to call him back and he'll prescribe augmentin. He did give me a prescription for zofran since he threw up in the car on the way to pick up that prescription after the last surgery. Now I get to call and harass the immunologist. Super fun.

Good luck tgrimes waitwhat laying on the floor until a kid goes to sleep has always been a hard No for me. I hope y’all can figure out something that works! Os ENT appt went surprisingly well. He listened to me the entire time and was pretty good for the doc. We did have to hold him down but I expected that. They removed a tic tac size ball of wax from his ear canal with the tube stuck in it. They also re tested his hearing and he passed! That's great news!

When the ENT walked in the room he said, "Wow. I haven't seen you in a couple of months. That must be a record." I told him it was only because we took him to the pedi and the walk in clinic instead. I explained all of the EIs since we saw him last and told him I had been checking his ears routinely since the first one began. I told him I know I'm not an ENT but I'm pretty sure the 1st EI cleared up, based on what his ears looked like, and that this last infection in his left ear still had fluid, the right ear had dried up and is now draining again. He told me I was pretty much an ENT jr and should consider being his resident. I will now add ENT to my resume.

Today is H's birthday. I still need to wrap his presents so I'll be doing that on my lunch hour. I also need to pick up more wine...because duh.

Today is my last day on maternity leave. I go back to work tomorrow... which seems silly on a Friday; but it’s actually kinda nice bc it can be like a trial run. However I’m sad to be going back this time around! My newborn period w O was not good so I was happy to go back. With D, I don’t feel ready My mom is going to watch him until March. So that’s easier than sending him to daycare. I’m just his fave though and sometimes the only one that can calm him down.

Welp, I heard back from the immunologist. He doesn't think any additional testing is necessary and "ear infections, while very much a nuisance, are very common and we've taken a good look at his antibody responses." I am refraining from responding with this:

I feel Luke he always blows me off because H has never had serious infections that caused hospitalizations. I’m looking into how to change doctors within the same department. I don’t think it is that easy. I could go somewhere other than Texas children’s hospital but they’re supposed to be in the top 4 in the country, or something like that. Also it’s hard to find an actual immunologist. Most of them are just allergists. I’m working on it though.

I woke up feeling incredibly nauseated this morning. And thirsty. And burpy. And then after drinking a bunch of water everything quickly came out the other end. I'm a bit worried that whatever made A puke on Monday has hit me. But that seems like a long incubation period for a gastrointestinal bug? 😬

We were supposed to have dinner with some friends tonight and they just cancelled because 2 of them are sick. Their youngest came down with it on Monday and the rest got sick last night.

I’m off today for H’s well check appt and M’s early dismissal. The pedi out in a referral for an external immunologist, just in case the children’s hospital won’t allow me to see another dr there.
She also said that if the ultrasound shows no stones, she’d run the bloodwork to check his titers for mumps and we can re-vaccinate if necessary. If we’re already running that bloodwork, I might as well get his immunoglobulin levels checked at the same time so hopefully she’ll do that too.

It was hectic getting my kids bundled up in coats, hats, gloves, and boots and out the door this morning in a timely fashion. I also couldn’t find my snow brush in the garage so that was fun. While I was looking for that, my kids were running around the front yard and they were covered in snow up to their knees. J decided he really loves to eat snow so he was having a field day doing that.
This is only the first day. We have 5 GD months of winter. I don’t know if I can make it 😂
