I’d usually put a gif here but I apparently can’t do it from my phone anymore.

I dropped M off at school, went home to get H ready and now I’m back at her school waiting for H’s ARD/IEP appt.

Both kids are back to school today. I came home and folded two loads of laundry, threw a load in the wash, hard boiled some eggs and threw chili in the crockpot. Now I’m sitting doing nothing.

Omg we're getting ready for discharge from the NICU today! They're just trying to tie up all the follow up appointments, make sure PT/OT/Speech are all set up and doing a car seat test. I can't believe it. We're gonna have about 500 appointments after we leave but we're going HOME.

danib, those lovetits are for support! Why do these things always happen when we’re husbandless!?! goldenlove, I can’t wait to hear (read) about your first few days home! So exciting!! tgrimes, how was your IEP meeting? Ours is next week and I swear the school district rep is trying to mess us up! Luckily, found out yesterday that L qualified for regional help (usually goes away at 3 unless he has a qualifying or permanent disability is diagnosed) so next year I’ll have an advocate even without the early intervention people there. We had OT today and we met our new advocate so that’s a plus. She has dealt with the school system with allergies and special ed so I’m glad to have somebody who understands. I explained I don’t like that it feels like they aren’t sharing information. The school district person omitted people from the invitation to the meeting including the school nurse who needs to be there for his food allergies. (She even said she needed to be there at our last meeting) She (not an SLP or OT) thinks L will not need an IEP by kindergarten in her “professional opinion!” But she said it to me before my SLP was there and never repeated it after she entered the meeting. It was based on observing him for 5 minutes!?!

Cheshie6 The appt went well. I met with the speech pathologist, a pre-k teacher and the principal. She went over the results of the evaluation from his intake appt and we changed some of his goals that they had initially put in the results. She mentioned to me that they had qualified him for services because of his lack of words. I told her I wasn't concerned about that and I even explained to them at the intake appt that he had a recent explosion of words. His biggest issue now is pronunciation and him not using his tongue properly. None of that was documented in the evaluation, which is really annoying, but at least he qualified. She explained that at these intake appts they're really only looking for specific things and they're with him for such a small amount of time that they can't really effectively evaluate them. I get it, but then why don't they correspond with his current speech therapist? It seems like that would be more beneficial than one that just met him for 30 minutes. Anyway, she said he'd need 6 appts every 9 weeks, so we set that up. Late yesterday afternoon she called me and said that our school district does have a therapist that could go to my daycare and asked if I'd rather do that. She knows how far away I work and figured it'd be more convenient. (the daycare has to qualify and meet certain standards to be able to do this) Ummmm, YES PLEASE! So now I don't have to miss a few hours of work every other week. The downside is it won't be the lady I met with and I really liked her. For now, I'll see how it goes and then I can always change it back to the elementary school if need be. TL;DR Appt was good. Someone can do it at his daycare. The evaluation system is flawed.

tgrimes you are right that the evaluation process is flawed but the good news is they will adjust as they get to know him. Qualifying is the most important part. But still frustrating. I gave them reports from all Ms therapists and that was a huge part of their eval. It's always odd when they don't seek that out imo.

The team evaluating never even looked at it or included any of the recommendations in their report. It seems like that would be a disservice to the child, in my opinion. Yes, they can adjust as they work with him, but it would be more efficient to already have that information from the start. Luckily, the pathologist I met with yesterday listened to what I had to say and listed it all in her report. I'm just glad I won't have to pay for speech anymore.

They should have read it. Remember you have a ton of rights in this process so don't let them disregard you. Fx it goes well.

Well I got Zantac for D. I’m still conflicted about it but his reflux (and sleep) just continues to get worse. I hope I’m doing the right thing for him. His first dose didn’t go well and I accidentally got it all over his face. He maybe got half of it...
