Unfortunately, despite a previous ultrasound where we saw a heartbeat, and an appropriate level of growth, my baby no longer had a heartbeat when we went in on Tuesday. I went to the miscarriage clinic on Wednesday where it was confirmed that it had passed. Because this is my 3rd loss, it's been decided to do genetic testing to see if there is a reason for the losses. I know that a D&C is the best chance for us to get a clean tissue sample so I'm booked for Tuesday. My previous losses were a natural miscarriage and a missed miscarriage where I used the misoprostol so I was wondering if anyone can tell me what I can expect from this.

Iβm so sorry for your loss.
I had a D&C after a MMC at about 9 weeks. The procedure itself was super easy. I went to the hospital, was put under anesthesia and had the procedure which took less than an hour. I went home the same day and felt basically physically normal. I had some bleeding that lasted a few weeks - it weirdly got worse about 3 days after the procedure and I ended up back at the doctor but they said itβs common and everything was fine. It took about 3 months for my hcg levels to return to zero.
FWIW, Iβm glad I got the D&C because it quickly brought closure and it really was an easy procedure, as surgeries go. The mental stuff is of course much harder. Iβm sending you love and hugs. If you have any other questions, please ask away.

I am so damned sorry. I hate this for you so much.
I don't have any experience with a D&C. I'm sorry I don't have any advice.

My losses were early and happened without intervention so I can't help with your question but I am so sorry for your losses.

Iβm so sorry for your loss.
Similar to the previous story- MMC at 14w, I went in, got set up with a gown, they put an iv in, then before they took me back they asked if I was nervous I said I guess, they gave me some med for anxiety and I donβt remember anything else except waking up on the recovery room. Just cramping and bleeding for the next bit. Cramps resolved after the next day, I had to take a cramping med for the next 24h (fuck I canβt remember what it was called, maybe it was miso) but it was an easy recovery physically. Like PP said, I was happy to just have it done and over with.

Thank you. It's tough, especially since everyone was so hopeful after seeing the heartbeat. I'm trying my best to just focus on one thing at a time right now (D&C, them test results, then figuring out what next) and it's helping, but I'm definitely stuck between anger and depression right now.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
I've had two D&Cs and the process was similar to PPs. Keep a close eye on your activity after the procedure. I had a rougher recovery because I tried to do too much the day of my procedure and ended up with a longer recovery time. If you have any questions, ask away.
And feel all your feelings. This is a safe place <3
Again, I'm so so sorry. I hope tomorrow goes smoothly.

Tomorrow is the day. About to go put in the miso. BFF is watching DS and offered to keep him a little longer if we want. I don't think my hospital puts you all the way out, but I'm hoping that with how I usually react to anesthesia that I won't remember much.

I wound up passing most of it at home, into one of my sons sand buckets (I didn't have anything else to use). It was a much easier experience this time, I think since my uterus already experienced a full term pregnancy. There was some retained placenta so they went in and cleaned it out anyways. It hurt, but whatever they gave me has basically just left the memories fuzzy. They also took blood and will be doing genetic testing on both H and myself as well as the fetus. Got home and went to sleep for 3 hours. And then when I woke up I started thinking - DS was conceived and obviously carried to term the cycle after my mirena was removed. Mirena uses artificial progesterone, some of which would still have been in my system. I called up the high risk doctor who follows me and I already have an appointment which I'm going to keep, but I'm going to suggest trying progesterone if there's a next time and see what he says.

I mean anecdote time but here it is. I had 2 early losses and then got on progesterone and had a healthy baby boy. My progesterone wasn't even that low, but I begged and the ob was shrug guy and said it couldn't hurt. Thinking of you and hope you are feeling as well as possible.

So a minor update. I went to see the high risk doctor today. I mentioned the fact that I got pregnant right after the Mirena and he agreed with me that the progesterone leftover could have helped support my pregnancy in the early stages. He did prescribe progesterone for me for next time, though that's not really his area of expertise so I'll be double checking with the OB GYN when I see her in 2 weeks. Hopefully this will help.

I saw the psychologist last week who agreed that I'm doing well and that since this isn't my first rodeo, so to speak, that my brain sort of automatically went where it knew would be easiest. I made a post on FB and told my coworkers and everyone has been amazing and supportive. I've definitely got an awesome support structure that is better than 5 years ago and that's helping a lot. Still 2 weeks until we have the results. The not knowing is making me anxious but also giving me something to focus on.

Last update in here. We went this morning to get the results for the genetic testing and they were... Interesting. The fetus was a normal male, so unfortunately no answer for why I lost him. H was normal. But I have low level mosaicism. About 10% of the sample had an extra X chromosome. It's not enough to really affect me, although it may account for my anxiety and adhd, but it may be a factor in recurrent miscarriage. Unfortunately there's nothing that can be done about that, so the plan moving forward is to call the clinic when I get a positive test and they'll do blood testing to check hormone levels and do an ultrasound every 2 weeks to check on growth so at least that will keep my stress levels down a bit. So back to trying.

Iβm sorry. Post loss testing is how I found out 20% of my cells are missing an X chromosome. Finding out a chromosomal abnormality like that is kind of a mindfuck. If you need to talk about it, please reach out.
