Hey guys! Sorry to have disappeared but we had a baby!!! And now we have exhaustion! Oliver was born on 9/18 @9:52am after a textbook RCS (with the exception that H made us a half hour late to check in!) Oliver was 8lbs 9oz and 20.5 inches. We had some struggles with Bili numbers to start with so we had a Bili blanket at home the first few days. He is all good now! He is nursing like a world champ and only sleeps being cuddled so that makes for one tired mama! He’s lucky he is so cute!! DS1 is slooowly accepting him as a permanent member of the family.

Hi! I had a baby!
I'll try to keep this as short as I can 😉
I woke up at about 12:15am due to a sharp contraction. I didn't trust it at first because this had been happening for a few nights but after trying to fall back asleep, they kept coming and were about 6 minutes apart at this point. I woke my husband up to let him know, about 20 minutes later, just in case it went quickly because I was already having difficulty talking through them.
To hurry them along, I got up and tried walking around and bouncing on my exercise ball but they seemed to slow down so I laid back down and they got stronger. Once they got to about 4-5 minutes apart, around 1am, I started to switch back and forth between lying down and finishing packing. By 1:30, I had my husband call my mom to come over with her SO to stay with the kids and not long after, my water broke.
At this point, my contractions started picking up in intensity so I was devoting almost all of my attention to making it through each one. By about 2:10, we left to go to the hospital, which, fortunately, is a 3 minute drive from my house because there are a lot of bumps and contracting on a bumpy road SUCKS.
Once we got there, we walked in through the emergency entrance and had to wait for someone from the maternity ward to escort us there. I was wheeled upstairs, contractions now about 2 minutes apart, and started shaking really bad! I said, "Crap, I think I'll be in transition soon..."
Once I got changed into my hospital gown around 2:20, they checked me and I was 4-5cm dilated. They then began asking me a bunch of intake questions, which I was struggling to answer at this point. I was instead begging for an epidural, thinking it could still be a while and there was no way I could handle the contractions for much longer. They seriously felt like I was given some Pitocin from the moment we left the house!
It didn't take too long for transition to hit, at which point I began to panic and started begging to leave the hospital. I guess I figured if I could leave, the pain would stop? Yeah, transition makes us rational, huh? 😉 I began swearing and couldn't get comfortable to save my life. Suddenly, I began pushing, which the nurses encouraged (thank goodness!) even though the MW wasn't there yet. With about 4 pushes, she was born, at 2:41am.
She weighs 7lbs 9oz and is 20.25in long. She has a head of dark hair and looks just like DD2 did but...with hair (she was bald). Her big siblings love her (DS wasn't too sure about her but after a while, he asked to hold her and loved getting to do that ❤️). I'll admit, I'm relieved she made it in September, with a little time to spare but holy smokes on the fast labor! Definitely feeling it now but I've been taking Motrin to help with that. At least I can take pain meds for this part ha!

Congratulations randomosity!! A fast labor seems like a curse during, but a blessing after! I’m so happy you all are doing well! 😄

Congratulations randomosity!! A fast labor seems like a curse during, but a blessing after! I’m so happy you all are doing well! 😄 Yes, exactly! I was so unprepared for how intense the contractions were going to be! I could only compare things to DD2's birth (her labor also started naturally) and it was the most textbook, easy birth (save for the breech part but it went smoothly otherwise!). DD3 just seemed to skip over the first stage of labor and went right into the crazy part! The maternity nurses staff were a bit stunned, too haha

I had a baby! Team Green turned blue with the arrival of Solo.mon Co.hen (middle name still being thought over). He's perfect and I'm feeling pretty good.
Detailed story :
I went to my 40-week appointment Friday morning. OB checked and said I was already 4cm dilated which meant the weeks of cramps and Braxton Hicks did something! She swept my membranes and I went to a park to take a walk afterwards. After I put J down for nap I started timing the contractions I was feeling. Around 6 minutes apart, pretty consistent. Decided to tell my mom to start on her way to us at 2pm. H came home from work around 3pm. We found if I relaxed, the contractions slowed down. Walking picked them up. My mom got to us around 7pm. Talked to our doula who suggested I try to sleep and rest while I could. I did get some sleep overnight but was still having contractions at the same rate. Doula suggested pumping and sex to get things moving. I pumped for 15 minutes then we took a walk and the contractions picked right up. Slowed down when we rested (watched a movie). Sent J and my mom to the library playplace and pumped again and walked again and contractions were every 4 minutes and stronger. Doula came around 3pm. Again we rested and they slowed so we went for a walk which included stairs and lunges and they got much more intense. Timed them while laying over the yoga ball and they didn't slow down. Called the call line and the OB who called back was extremely unhelpful so we decided we'd make the decision when to go on our own. A short while later I was having trouble focusing on them so we went into the hospital at 5:30pm.
Struggled through the wait in the lobby, which was ridiculous. We got to skip triage when the charge nurse saw how I was vocalizing and felt baby's head moving down with contractions. Checked and I was almost 8cm so hit out goal of getting there right before transition! Mostly I labored on my knees with my head and arms up on the raised bed. There were two contractions where I felt I really couldn't do it anymore but they don't give any pain meds at that far dilated. We decided to have the OB break my water so it would go a bit faster. H and doula got me through the super intense contractions then my body was pushing on its own during some so they called back the OB and got the room ready. Apparently I only pushed for 10-15 minutes! It felt much longer. There was a moment they were worried his shoulder was stuck because I had to pause but it was fine.
Born at 8:09pm on his due date, 8lb 11oz! (My first was 8lb 4oz at 9 days late!) 19" long (measured later). Only a 1st degree tear, whew. He went right on my stomach but he had some lung congestion so they took him to suction. Stitching my tear was horrible. Numbing didn't work well. Kid is delightfully chunky with a full head of hair.
He's already doing much better at breastfeeding than my first so that is a huge relief. And I'm amazed I did it med free!

Hi marshian, lurker here from your last BMB. I swear I’m not stalking you - I just recently got a BFP and signed up to participate in the May/June 2020 BMB and had been poking around in the others . Congrats! Your birth sounds really similar to all 3 of mine (getting to hospital at 8-9 cm and going med free) and I think that’s the perfect way to do it! Enjoy getting to know your new baby boy!!

sdlaura I remember you! Congrats on your pregnancy! This birth was definitely the way we hoped. Barely in L&D, not enough time to slow it down or get anxious about being in the hospital or any of that!

Congrats on team blue 💙 and on your unmedicated birth marshian!! It’s definitely a crazy experience knowing you can make it through that level of pain!
