I’ll post mine! I typed it up in the hospital and it’s kinda long...
8/15/19 - 10:00am
We have an appt at the hospital for bloodwork and signing consent forms. We meet our OR nurse for tomorrow and sign our life away.
8/15/19 - 5:30pm
We picked DS1 up from school to go spend the night at my parents. He was very excited and shrieked the entire car ride there. After taking our last pic as a family of 3, we left. We went to italian for dinner. I got salad, garlic bread, manicotti and tiramisu. When we got home we packed and cleaned last min things. We set our alarms for 4:30am and I slept pretty well.
8/16/19 - 5:30am
When my alarm went off I got up and took a shower. We headed to the hospital at 5:15am, it was still very dark out. We go in through the emergency entrance and check in. We are taken to triage and meet up with the nice nurse from yesterday. She gets my IV hooked up, gives me fluid and Pepcid for heart burn. We meet with the Dr and the anesthesiologist. I’m not as nervous as last time bc I know what to expect. Eventually we walk back to the OR, they give me a spinal and I lay down. H comes in and they start the surgery. D is out quickly at 8:01am and he cries right away. Dr told me he wasn’t engaged in my pelvis. I don’t know whether that would have happened btw 40-41w. I’m feeling good about his birth though considering I was hoping for a VBAC. I told the OB to sew up my abs extra good. H got to cut the cord this time, something he missed out on last time. D got an 8, then 9 APGAR. He weighed 7lbs 8oz and was 19.25” long.
D and H went to the nursery while I got stitched up. I was then wheeled back to recovery. I felt pretty good at this point. Eventually they came back and we did skin to skin and nursed for the first time. I forgot how hard it is to latch a newborn. He’s doing awesome job nursing all things considered though. There was a delay getting a room due to the amount of babies being born so we were allowed to bring family back to recovery.
At this point we were transferred to our room. I was feeling pretty sick at this point from side effects of the drugs. I was burning up, nauseous and light headed. Eventually by mid afternoon, I started to feel better.
At 8pm I get up to walk for the first time. I feel like a newborn deer but it felt good to get up.
D sleeps almost too much the first night and gives us 2 4 hour stretches where we have to wake him up to nurse. He also passes his first poop and pees all over his face. Daddy is still getting the hang of changing a newborn diaper again and swaddling.
Update: the 2nd night he was up every hour at some points.
8/17/19 - 10:30am
DS1 stops by to meet his little brother for the first time. He was so sweet with D. He sat on the couch and held him on the boppy.
