It is our last week of summer before school starts next week. It's bittersweet for me. I am nervous because it's a completely different school for B and I know he is going to cry and be so super shy for a little bit and when I ask him if he wants to go back to school he immediately says no. I don't know what to expect with J because that kid keeps saying he wants to go to school but I don't think he realizes I am not going with him. But I am extremely excited to have a couple hours BY MYSELF 3 times a week!

My best advice is that while it is really super helpful in terms of getting shit done around the house or going shopping without kids (again, life-changing), make sure you do something just for you once or twice a week. Go eat lunch by yourself or with a friend without kids being all over you. Anything that makes you happy, just take the time.

I was already thinking of how much cleaning and stuff I could do but I need to remember to take time for myself and not feel bad about it!

M is at kindergarten. I really hope she eats lunch and dinner there. H was very confused why he was going to daycare by himself and kept asking where she was. He only plays with her on the playground so I hope he does okay without her.

Morning. Nothing super exciting going on around here. C spent the night at my parents house so we got to the hospital earlyish. We're having dinner at their house later.
We're really just hoping to hear a plan for K. I think they've done just about every test they can do to get the full picture so now it's time to figure out how to get her out of here.

We're trying to get back to our routine and getting everything ready for back-to-school next week and DH to leave next week. C had his birthday party yesterday and he had so much fun. I was super impressed with H. It was a swimming party, and while he loves the water, he's also kind of afraid and freaks out. Which is tricky, because he wants to be in but yet he is scared. Anyway we put a life jacket on him (he usually doesn't like them) and within a few minutes he was pushing us away saying "let me go! I wanna swim". And he jumped off the side a bunch of times. Also I'm having a huge arthritis flare and having a hard time doing anything. Like I can't even grip my toothbrush without bringing tears to my eyes.

I can’t tell y’all how happy I am it’s monday and O is back in school 😬 He was being a terror yesterday. I wanted to go to the grocery store so bad yesterday bc I hadn’t left the house (except for doc appts) in 9 days. We almost didn’t make it out of the house. Not bc of the newborn... bc of the 2 yo! Ouch danib! H will get a flare up in his big toe. It’s super random but he says so painful.

tgrimes M eats dinner at K? What time is she there until?! Yup! They serve it around 4:30 for the kids in after school care. I can't remember if I told y'all this already but our school district was awarded a grant so they get breakfast, lunch and dinner for free. I'm not sure how the handle the dinner part of it and I have no idea what it consists of because it's not online. I can only see the breakfast and lunch menus. I just don't want her to be nervous or scared to get in line to get food, if that makes sense.

Wrists are bad too, but the finger is hugely swollen and so sore. I've never had such a specific flare up before, it's so weird.

I'm sorry you're having a flare danib, that sounds awful. goldenlove - I hope you guys are able to put a plan together with the doctors so you can take her home soon. tgrimes - that wonderful that your district provides all three meals. Not just for the convenience for parents but for kids from food insecure households. I wish that kind of thing was more common.

elle Yes, it's amazing! We got the grant after hurricane Harvey. I believe it was a 5 or 6 year grant but 92% of our school district is low income and more than 75% qualifies for free or reduced price lunch.

goldenlove, I hope you're able to take her home soon!! tgrimes, what an awesome program! I have no idea if our district offers before and after care (they prob do, but I haven't needed to look into it), but they do offer free lunches to students M-F during the summer. No proof of being on free or reduced lunches required. We really need more programs like that for students and their families.

I'm also worried about J not eating his lunch at school. Preschool was just 3.5 hours, so while they had snack time they didn't eat a whole meal there. Plus the whole cafeteria thing will be all new to him.

We started transfer documents to the school district today. We have a meeting (hopefully with the special ed person of the school district) for the transfer conference next Tuesday. This is where it officially starts. Then we'll have a lot of other meetings for the school district to decide if he qualifies for an IEP and what that all means. She won't be able to tell if he'll be in a specific class or if he'll actually get an IEP but should be able to answer basic questions. I'll probably have 504 plan questions too. Our SLP said she'd be shocked if L didn't get an IEP through the district. He's made some huge head way with 2-3 word sentences but is still behind in speech, plus he's fallen a bit behind in fine motor. She also said this can be expected because he is working so hard on the verbal. This week the pool is closed for cleaning this week. I'm hoping to get in every day this week for a few hours to make some extra money for the cruise. Enough to get Liam something from the shop if he likes and/or a second sweater from Ireland! (most of our budget is for alcohol and photos LOL and spending money in Ireland because sweaters and crystal!!!) That sweater (or 2) is for myself. No point in spending that kind of money for tot that'll grow out of it in a year or DH who will work on his truck or car in it. Yup... give me all the sweaters! (I couldn't get one when I was in Ireland last time... poor college student) Looks like I might be potty training this weekend!?! danib, did you do it alone? L is sitting on his potty, and flushing the toilet after he gets up. I'm planning on getting him several pairs of underwear with a few Thomas pairs in the hopes that'll make him excited to wear them. I'm nervous to be doing this alone but what can a gal do? If he's against it, I won't and put them and the candy away. He picked out Haribo gummy bears for his potty treat. I'm not ready. There's some freedom in having a diapered kid! Not looking forward to taking him potty every 1.5-2 hours on a plane. But it would be nice that the only thing I need to bring with me are pull-ups for naps and bedtime!?! Also sorry about you finger danib! goldenlove, I hope a plan to bring K home is discussed soon! I can't wait for more squee pictures.

Also, neighbor is hoping that L is in the same class as her son. Is it wrong that I'm hoping not? I would prefer they just be friends and I don't have to worry about obvious comparing. Her son will be a school year ahead of L, so after L enters early, next year he repeats the pre-k for 3 year olds because he's born after September 30th. I went to school with a family friend, and everything was compared. (Not taking into account that boys and girls learn differently or my type A personality) My mom switched my school to a better school in our district, and when his mom thought I was ahead of him by a lot, followed suit. She'd compare our report cards, and get mad because I got all E's (excellents) and G's (goods) and only got a U (unsatisfactory) in homework. (I hated homework when the work was redundant) My mom didn't show her my report card, we didn't know and would compare our report cards on the bus home. He would report to his mom how many E's I got compared to his... then he'd be punished for not doing as well as I did. My mom eventually got me taken out of his class so then she could blame different teaching styles. I just don't want that for my kid.

Cheshie6 I potty trained C alone while DH was offshore. But C was easy and was fully trained in 3 days. H took much longer so that wasn't completely alone. We did make the most progress though when it was just me, because I was more focused on it and was able to keep a tighter routine with it. Because H took a while to get it, we still used diapers anytime we left the house for a few weeks and I just kept my expectations low and didn't push it too hard. He basically just got it on his own time.

Cheshie6, DS1 has an IEP. He got it when he started the developmental preschool last year and it'll follow him to kindergarten in a couple weeks (same school district). We don't have a 504 plan, though.

Morning!
Today we have a meeting with B’s teacher and the school nurse to talk about his allergies and go over his emergency care plan. I really like that they set this up because I remember being so nervous last year over the fact we never talked about a game plan for B and that they seemed so lackadaisical about his allergies. I’m excited to also meet his teacher and get a sneak peek of his classroom.

Cheshie6 B also has an IEP. He’s had once since he was 3 and aged out of EI and moved into the school district. And I also get your feelings about not wanting L in the same class. I have a similar issue with our next door neighbor. The little girl is in the same “grade” as B right now but she is so far ahead of a B. It doesn’t help that our school cutoff is December 1 and she has a late December birthday whereas B has a July birthday so B just turned 4 and she will be turning 5 in a few months. The differences between the two are glaring yet they would be in the same grade. It’s tough.

I'm at work. I tried driving closer to the school to walk M in and I ended up parking so far away that we should have just walked from the house again. I'm hoping after tomorrow I can just do the car drop off line.

I'm at work. I apparently decided last week to kick my diet to the curb and I'm still going strong this week. I'll be hitting up the grilled cheese food truck for lunch today!
