DS started daycare today. He probably won't nap much there for awhile, but they've already posted a bunch of pictures of him so for now, he's happy. I, on the other hand, am having a much harder time with it than I expected.

@ges, hope the day goes well. Sometimes the daycare ladies can get kids to nap better than parents! Hope it happens. grover we are also doing an in home, it was a little cheaper than the center DD went to. $75 per day per baby but there is a 10% discount for one. The remainder is DD's preschool tuition. The boys start in 2 weeks!

@ges072115 looks like he’s doing great! Naps were definitely challenging when M first started, after a week or so he was back to his normal schedule.

Whyyyyyyy is daycare so expensive?! I decided to call around to see if we can save any $$ on daycare and my eyes are bugging out at these prices. $391/week for an infant?! I guess we are keeping the kids where they are. I know I live in a HCOLA area but my gosh. Legit, daycare prices are a huge component as to why I won't move back to Boston. As much as I want to, even with a higher than average HHI, we'd be swimming in debt by year 2.

Our daycare costs between the twins and DD will be $4,500 per month. It's insane. Thank god next fall we will get the "kindergarten raise" and the boys will get cheaper as they get older, too. I just threw up a little. FORTY FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS A MONTH. My god. 54,000 a year in daycare. That's literally more than most people make in a year.

lemondrop, it is insane. Luckily they will go down to $60 per day (plus 10% discount) at a year old, so only 6 months of the crazy high total. Then in 1 year my DD will be in full day K, so only after care costs. But yeah it's our biggest bill, way higher than even our mortgage. Childcare costs really suck.

Eames yeah, I realize how lucky I am that my daycare provider loves our family enough to make it $100/total per day for all three. No where else would I find care at $33.33/kid/day. And it's super quality care- she had three kids close together (hers are now 18, 16, 15) and struggled when all three were young, which is how she got into running a daycare. It just sucks to have NO extra money right now.

@ges072115 When N started she also took really short naps. Now it alternates, some days she’ll take 2 hour naps and other days 30-40. She just loves other babies though and I get lots of happy pictures.
I’m also very much head in the sand about daycare costs. Part of me wants to calculate it and the other part wants to stay oblivious. DD1 we pay for the school year up front, so it is kind of out of sight out of mind for me. And our daycare we pay weekly, so the amount looks so much smaller that way.

I think we made it over the hump! Turns out we had a killer combo of 4 mo vaccines, 4 mo sleep regression, and a tooth!
It seems so early, but I guess is just on the early side of average. I’m not ready to lose the gummy smile. 😭

jacks my daughter got two bottom ones at 4.5 months! Now she has lost 3 already and she's not even quite 5 years old. Dentist said it was on the early side but normal. I keep thinking my boys are getting theirs but nothing poking through yet. The gums are looking really close, though.

Oh my gosh teeth already?! DD didn't get her first tooth until 3 weeks before her 1st birthday. MH said last week that he thought DS had a lump on his upper middle gum for a tooth coming, but I'm not feeling it. I think we still have a little while. bex15, we always knew when a tooth was coming for DD because her gums would be swollen.

Eames what do the gums look like when teeth are coming? Definitely a little swollen, and for me, like you can see the white just behind. Poor babies.

I work with someone whose grandson just turned 6 months and has five teeth already! Wow! I think we are getting reallly close. For those of you in daycare already, how many naps are your babies taking during the day there? We still have morning nap around 9 and an afternoon nap around 12:30 or 1... and then usually a catnap at 4:30 or so. Since I'll be picking them up at five, I'm debating on asking DCP to put them down again at the end of the day? Or catnap on the way home? It's a super short drive (3 minutes) or walk (10 minutes).

Could you have her put them down for a nap around 4:15 so they’d get a nice nap in before you pick up at 5? N gets to daycare at 8:30 and then naps around 9:30 and 12:30. The nanny picks her up at 3:30 and sometimes they put her down for a nap right before that and it drives me crazy. Usually she’ll nap in the car on the drive home. Some nights she is fine to stay up until bedtime (8), but other nights I’ll have her take a short nap around 6:30 if she’s really struggling.

jacks, I think I will ask them to do that around 4 or 4:15. If they sleep until I pick them up, that's fine. Then they can be up until 7:30 bedtime without getting too cranky.

DD STTN for the first time last night! She slept from 9pm to 5:10am. I’m sure she won’t do it again tonight or anytime in the super near future, but it was so nice!

My drive home from daycare is 5 minutes, and they usually fall asleep then. I just transfer to the twin z pillow or the swings when we get home to finish the catnap if they sleep through the transfer.
