Oh shit sheilathetank that is so horrifying for the families still there. Omg. N is hardcore into tantrums every single day. Everything is his way or the cry meltdown tantrum highway. I’m so over it. He’s also refusing the majority of the food he used to eat before with no problem. ☹️ I’m at my wits end. This week of vacation is been so stressful at home all day with him. I need to go back into the old threads and find new food ideas bc the only thing he has eaten without complaint is pancakes because of the syrup. He didn’t even want pouches! Like we can’t even go for a walk because he wants to go straight when we need to go right or something stupid. 9/10 times I just let him lead but when it’s 6:15 and we are 20min from home and dinnertime is at 6:30, he freaks the fuck out and just yells NO HOME NO HOME 😣 Age? It’s age linked and pretty much happens as if a switch was hit Oh he’s 2. He’s been acting this way for the last month but the last two weeks have really amped up the complete meltdowns. Around 18mo my nanny was like “oh I think the terrible twos hit early” but holy shit I WISH he was still tantruming like that because those were a goddamn joke compared to these. Jfc. 😣

addymac mine went through a phase of nonstop tantrums all day long and it was so exhausting. He seems to be much better lately *knock on wood* so hang in there! I have to give him a lot of warnings before switching activities or otherwise he still freaks out. And I talk to him a lot about what will happen and what’s expected of him ahead of time and that seems to help. He still has plenty of tantrums but he seems to be able to come out of them more quickly than he used to. I’m sure another phase will come and it’ll be awful again but I think I’m learning to deal with them better too.

addymac does like ketchup or other dips/sauces? He loves syrup. And he like ketchup- he loves French fries but if we give him ketchup he just licks the ketchup off the fries and forgets about the French fry! Haven’t tried any other sauces. He hates anything spicy 😭

addymac I'm sorry for the tantrums. How are his language skills? When DD had a tantrum we would talk afterward about saying "I'm frustrated" or "I'm mad" and stomping or jumping was an ok way to express that. But biting, hitting, kicking, etc. Was not. We sang the Daniel tiger songs "it helps to say im mad" and "take a deep breath" song A Lot. I have no advice about the food. Because that's a daily struggle for me as well. Just commiseration hugs.

He hates anything spicy 😭 Mine used to do that too but he’s gotten better. Our one rule with ketchup is that he can’t just dip his finger in it to lick off. I’ve seen a bunch of homemade dip recipes for kids, maybe that’ll help?

We asked the kid what we should have for dinner and he said we should go to a restaurant. We might eat out too much. 😂

He’s delayed in speech but doing better. I can try. I usually try to calmly talk to him while holding his hands and kissing his face (if he lets me) to calm him down when its ending but I should start using those phrases. Perhaps a Daniel tiger episode will help. Thanks.

This morning my kid said he wanted to wear underwear after peeing in the toilet so I am strategizing.

My oldest started kindergarten today. I'm really happy I held it together and didn't cry.

I opened the car door today and was missing a car seat. Mh forgot to take dd’s out of his car from yesterday. Sighs. I had a lot of things planned today too. So we walked to the playground and library instead.
It’s so nice and fall like right now and I’m in heaven.

It’s one of those things that’s easy to forget when you’re in a rush.

DD's first day was today. I can't share pics, but I can share that I asked her what she wants to be when she grows up and she said "Darth Vader". 😂😂😂😂

Question, are you all using the belt path instead of latch on your car seats for bigger kids? Everywhere I read says to switch to belt at 40 lbs or more. I cannot for the life of me get the seat tight enough. MH and I are going crazy. I have watched videos and my next step is to go to the police station and have them help. Any tips?

Our main seat manual recommends using the belt from the beginning since you have to switch at some point anyway so we always have but it is very easy to do with that seat. I have Cosco Scenera as a travel seat and the only way I can get that installed tight enough is for me to actually sit in it while tightening the belt. I think the key is to put a lot of weight on the seat to press it down, even if you can’t sit inside it. Also, you probably know this already but make sure you pull the seat belt all the way out first so it locks.

I use belt because it’s easier for me. Your seat will tell you what the kid weight limit is for latch- Latch themselves have a 65 lb weight limit that is seat + kid, so the manufacturers tend to do the math for you and give a child weight restriction. As for getting tight, physically climb into the seat and press down with your knees towards the back. Have someone else yank on the seat belt as you do this. If you can’t fit, I find taking 40 lbs of hand weights works well as well or having your child climb in

It’s also easier to pull the chest strap taut by pulling at the belt clip and having someone else feed the slack back to whatever they call the pull system

I would call the manufacturer and ask them directly. It could be a defect with your seat. If you are following all the instructions it should work. They may also have tips or tricks for your particular car. Fwiw we still use latch. DD will probably be in a 5pt booster by the time she gets to 40lbs.

Thanks ladies! I’ve done all the things you mentioned and one of the seats is brand new so I wouldn’t think a defect. Maybe my expectation is too high and it is tight enough but it seemed to be moving Way more than an inch side to side so it didn’t seem right.
Of course MH stopped at work last night and someone smashed the back bumper while it was parked ugh. We had 2 seats in there so I’m assuming they need to be replaced. I believe insurance covers it though right?

I believe insurance covers it though right? My friend got rear ended a week ago and her insurance wouldn't cover the cost of replacing the seat since the accident occured at under 30mph. Could be insurance or policy dependent though. She is trying to get the at fault party to pay since her insurance won't cover it, but that could take a bit.

I believe insurance covers it though right? I seem to recall someone saying it makes a difference whether the kids were in the car seat or not? Check with the insurance company either way. Which car seats? I think some seats are just harder to get a good install than others. But if you got it as tight as you could and have it checked by the car seat people to ease your mind. You may be right that it's just fine.

I believe insurance covers it though right? Someone backed into our parked car in the synagogue parking lot a few years back and insurance insisted on replacing the car seat.
