August Blooms Oh my gosh - that’s awful. I’m so sorry you went through such a traumatic experience. Many, many hugs to you. I hope you can take some time to recover and heal (both physically and mentally) this weekend. TW - miscarriage
I went into hypovolemic shock with one of my miscarriages before DS1, and it was terrifying. I didn’t know I could bleed that much...I also lost consciousness. I can’t imagine going through that much blood loss in an ER waiting room washroom, and waiting there all day with other people. How awful - again, I’m so, so sorry my dear.

August Blooms I’m so sorry you had to go through all that. Please give yourself all the permissions to nap and whatever else you need to do for yourself this weekend. I know you are busy with moving and kiddos but please take some time for you too. ((hugs))

DD2 has croup... to the utter surprise of no one that she is sick again. Those test results can’t come back soon enough and we should hear something in the next week. She sounds like a seal who smokes a pack a day but is in pretty good spirits.
Long long rant ahead: H and I had a fight about who is watching her tomorrow. I *thought* he was going to take another day off (he took today too) and I offered to take Friday since it’s an easy day to make sub plans for but he insisted he would do it. Then he called to tell me FIL offered to take DD2 to their house and he would watch her there. MIL would be at work or this would probably have been an ok solution in a pinch.
While I very much appreciate the offer... no. I’ve told you all before how little supervision they offer - but especially FIL. He very much sees kids as needing to act older than they really are. It’s an old farmhouse with steep wooden stairs,, there aren’t many toys (or even age appropriate toys), little to no child proofing (not a huge issue if I thought he would actually watch her closely), no crib for her to nap in, etc.
H complained that I always let my parents watch the girls and I pointed out that 1- they watch them at our house as we don’t drag the girls anywhere else sick and 2- my parents respect our wishes. I very much do not trust FIL to cut up DD2s food (in-laws love to serve hot dogs and grapes to the grandkids which are like literally two of the biggest choking hazards to children!!!!) or follow our wishes in regards to things like rear facing car seats, actually taking naps, not using Tylenol for sickness unless absolutely necessary.... these are not little issues to me. So now FIL is still going to watch DD2 but now at our house.
I’m sure FIL is pissed at me but I care very little as I have serious concerns about the safety of the girls when they are there without H or myself. I know H is stressed about taking sick days already and he wants his parents to be more involved with the girls’ lives but DD2 is still a “baby” (and very much sick tonight!) and needs more direct care. DD1 would be fine because she’s a perfect unicorn but she’s rarely sick so it’s a nonissue with her.

August Blooms, thinking of you. I am kinda mad that you couldn't get the day off. It's emotionally traumatic going through what you're dealing with added the fact that you're also have to deal with physical aspects of it. I hope you're able to take as much time as you need.

danvers, I am sorry you had a fight. It's a tough situation you're in with childcare and ugh to DD2 sick again. I am still hoping she'll grow out of it. Hasn't she been well for quite a period of time. I think given your options, having DD2 in your house while sick is the best option and if FIL cares for her he should be obliging. IMO I personally would prefer to watch a child in the comfort of their own surroundings well or sick - so much easier to have their own stuff to keep busy with. Thinking of your DD2 and you just have to power through the day and I hope you can get home as quickly as possible after school tomorrow.

@duskeymonkey LOL! So, did the other tire go flat too?? Or was that thing not too long to do any significant damage? What bad luck! danvers You’re totally within your rights to not want your sick DD2 over at your IL’s place - especially given how they go about things. Heck no to that! You are right that our kids are still really little and need to be watched closely. You have to put your kids safety/health first, and too bad of the ILs don’t like it. I’ve had similar issues with my ILs being breezy about stuff like car seat safety and stairs. That’s why I’ve never left DS2 alone with them. DS1 is bigger, so we let him do 2 sleepovers there this past trip to the USA, but only because DS1 is bigger and not so prone to hurting himself now.

cythe, I've been using little plastic-y hair ties. The rubber ones seem to pull out fine baby hair more. M's hair is pretty fine so it does get loose during the day. But she won't wear clips. ETA picture. I think these are the ones I got.

cythe the goodie ouchless elastics are great for the fine baby hair and curls. Other than that lots of little clips to keep the front tamed down and let the curls be free! I would also avoid over shampooing the curls

Taitai oh you bet it made a nice pin hole which lead to the eventual leak.

Well guise, the universe really really didn't want me to ride my bike aannnndddd I well you guessed it....FML I got another flat this morning. This all happened as I was pulling my bike to hitch it up this am. DS was across the street waiting for the bus and hanging out with the other kids and the other parents saw me and they convinced me to let him ride the bus which he was officially going to anyways on Monday. Well then I didn't even have time to think as they got him onto the bus as I ran across the street to get his bag so there's that. Seriously I inspected all the busted tubes and found the leaks were all in different spots. I also did a thorough inspection of the tire too and found a measly tiny sharp glass or metal shaving which caused a microscopic hole that caused the slow overnight leak but I couldn't pull it out with a needle nose plier. I can feel it with my finger. Anyways the bike needs new tires too and with all the issues it is having, I put it to rest until hubs can take a look at it.

@duskymobkey My word! It’s a sign from the universe that your DS1 should rise the bus I guess...lol. Seriously though, I’d be really irritated about all those issues, and I hope you can get them sorted, so that you can get back to biking. I love biking around, and wish I could do that with my kids here, but the roads/infrastructure just don’t allow it ☹️. Hope things turn around!

I've had some ear sinus infection thing for a week. Ears keep popping in and out! The worst. M's been doing swim classes once a week. She loves it. She's so dang independent. Tantrums are strong!

Yesterday my cousin contacted me about the dna ancestry testing. I’ve never done it but a few other family members have. Apparently hers shows no relation to anyone in the family. 😳 so her dad may not be her bio dad. He’s not responding to her and neither is her mother. I don’t really know what to tell her.

curmudgeon A first grade teacher at our school did 23andMe kits for all their adult kids and themselves at Xmas 5 years ago. They found out one of the daughters is not related by blood to the father and have now joined in a lawsuit against a fertility doctor in the state who used his own sperm to impregnate some 50+ cases. It’s a shit way to find out and your poor cousin has got to be having a whole lot of feels right now, especially if the parents knew but didn’t tell her.

Omg danvers I heard about that lawsuit! So crazy you know someone involved. I really feel for my cousin. I don’t know if her father even knows or ever suspected she could not be his. Her parents have been divorced since I was an infant and she no longer speaks to her mother. She’s trying to get her father to do the testing also but I guess not reveal the reason why? And if she’s reached out to several other family members about results I don’t know if they are agreeing to keep this from him.

curmudgeon Wow - that is a crazy story. I’ve heard there are also privacy/security risks to sharing your dna with these private companies, as there are not many regulations as to how they should be protecting your information. With the future prospect of using for stuff like banking, customs, voting, etc., I wouldn’t be comfortable getting any of that done. I don’t think HIPPA covers it at all.

I caught the baby’s bug and was up all night with my face in the toilet. At least it’s a quick 12 hour thing?
Also, perfect day to be stuck inside in bed. Lots of thunderstorms going on and MIL took DS1 to Walmart. So no screaming is going on at the moment.
