It’s been a week. First tri exhaustion has been kicking my butt, we’ve been packing like crazy and my brother was in a bad car accident this week. It’s a miracle he’s not hurt, (he does have a concussion) even though a car tboned him on the drivers side and the fire department had to extract him.

August Blooms oh my....sorry to hear about your brother but glad he's none the worse. That must have been really scary. Hopefully he will get through the concussion with a good outcome.

This morning, DS and I gave his teachers their gifts and to thank them. I was in tears last night writing their cards. I don't think lil fella will be going there; logistically it doesn't make sense with DS getting out of school and home by 330, I prefer that both kids are home around the same time so they can hang out together so I'll put him in a nursery closer next year when he's 3 and we'll have to figure out how to do pick ups when I am working - guess hubs will have to suck it up. DS is starting Kindy in a couple of weeks Eeeek! I already got all his school supplies and put them in his back pack and wrapped it and will give it to him this weekend. I did take him shopping to choose his notebook and folder colors. It just dawned on me that I'll have to figure out what to pack him for lunch. He doesn't really eat sandwiches and is used to eating leftovers from dinner for lunch the next day so I really need to figure out a thermos. I have a lunchbot but it's a dissapointment. Anyone have any suggestions for a thermos that will keep hot?

Today should hopefully be the last day of major reno work at our new house! I pulled weeds for over 2 hours yesterday with my MIL’s help. It looks way better but man, my back hurts. I’m hoping I can get the floors swept and mopped this afternoon if the painter is done so that we can start getting stuff put together. Unfortunately we are busy all day Saturday and Sunday (it’s a long weekend here and usually we camp with DH’s family this weekend but this year we are doing all local activities...but still no time to set up furniture). Thankfully Monday is a holiday so we hope to work all day building and arranging furniture and start actually living there Monday or Tuesday. My parents get back Sunday night so they are going to keep the kids Monday and/or help but they are totally fine if we still need to crash at their house an extra day or two which is so helpful, we don’t feel rushed

We are going to Great Wolf Lodge on Sunday. DS cannot wait. He’s been asking how much longer for weeks.
Ive also started planning DS2’s birthday party. I found a “jungle” petting zoo that will come to your house. It has a lemur and kangaroo along with the typical farm type animals. DS2 is going to freak out. He loves animals so much.

duskymonkey I was shopping for DD1 since she starts kindergarten in September. Thermos brand looks like they have some smallish ones for little kids. I have to figure out what she will be eating since we don’t really do sandwiches that much and she’s become picky lately. Although she doesn’t have a problem eating what I send her to daycare with. doodlemommy Glad to hear the move is going well and you have help.

August Blooms Oh no about your brother’s car accident! I am so glad he wasn’t seriously hurt, and I hope he makes a full recovery from The concussion. How scary. Sorry about the 1st tri fatigue...I remember that being so awful, along with the nausea, sickness. I hope it lets up for you soon! duskymonkey I have a lunch bento/thermos recommendation for you! We use one from Zojirushi for DS1 at school, and it does an amazing job of keeping things warm. DS1 also doesn’t eat sandwiches, and we always send him warm meals. The one we have is a lot like this one —> www.amazon.com/Zojirushi-ZONCE09ST-Stainless-Steel-Vacuum-28-5-Ounce/dp/B0016S7MJMdoodlemommy Good luck with the last minute moving stuff. You are in 3rd tri, right? How are you holding up with all this activity? I would imagine your body is like - I need a rest! curmudgeon That jungle petting zoo thing sounds like a lot of fun! I know my DS1 would also love it. Have fun at the Great Wolf Loge - I’ve always wanted to check one of those out and see what it’s like.

We are about to leave to head back home...it is crazy how fast the summer went. Lots of tearful goodbyes these past few days, but I know we will see people via video chat - plus we’ll be back next summer. Going to try to get some decent Mexican food tomorrow while we can - one of the things I love that is nearly impossible to find in Southeast Asia. 🤣

H and DS1 are running last minute errands for our road trip tomorrow and I’m home with DS2. I took out a bunch of 1’s old toys I had bagged up and 2 is having the best time playing with these mini action figures and trucks. I’ve also read about a gazillion books this morning as he keeps bringing them to me and clapping when they’re over.

I’m here but mentally checked out right now. The two shootings in 13 hours has left me in a not-so-great place mentally as we prepare to go back to school tomorrow. Our district actually begins ALICE training for teachers on Tuesday (active shooter training) and I just can’t fathom this is the state of the country my girls are growing up in.
I rocked DD2 till she fell asleep tonight. Then I’m pretty sure I rocked her 20 more minutes just listening to her breathe & smelling her sweet, just washed hair.
I snuggled DD1 way past her bedtime and we giggled and talked in the dark.
I’m not ready to go back to the real world tomorrow.

On a completely much less depressing note, we have entered officially pig-tails territory with DD2. It takes a whole lot of snacks and YouTube videos to get them to this point so not sure how sustainable this is for the long haul but my gosh I do love them on her 😍

Hi friends, im here. My sleep schedule is pretty fucked lately so Im tired 100% of the time.
We have speech therapy today and ive officially been asked to leave the room so E stops just trying to interact with me. Fine by me, I'm currently HIHing in bed trying not to take a nap!
In more therapy news, same old same old. She responds better to the physical therapy than the speech therapy, but both have slowed down progress wise. No one seems concerned by this, so we just carry on!
E did stand up the other day, she was in her little pool and the neighbors dog did a drive by, she wanted to see more so she stood up. And promptly hasnt done it since 😂
Its most frustrating because I know she can do it. She does it with me all the time. I hold out my hand, she grabs it and stands up. I do nothing, she does 100% of the work. She just ... won't do it yet.
So that's where we are. Happy August!

August Blooms , I'm so glad your brother is ok! How scary! danvers , I'm having similar thoughts as you regarding the violence this past week. DH had a long talk about it the other night. His school has implemented several safety measures and has done lots of training but it still leaves me uneasy. Nowhere is safe anymore. I find myself feeling anxiety sometimes when we are in crowded places. TW: death/suicide Last Tuesday DH received a phone call from the school AD. A student who had just graduated who was also a star wide receiver on the football team, took his life. DH also taught his older sister and coached her in basketball. We went to the visitation yesterday - it just rips a hole in your heart and leaves you feeling helpless. There are so many people hurting and so much violence in our country, and everything feels a little dark right now.

Speaking of hair and pig tails..... DS2 was approaching mullet territory. Though the front looked ok, we went ahead and got his hair cut for the first time. I MISS HIS BABY MULLET!! Ugh. He looks good but he also looks TOO BIG.

It’s our last night at great wolf. I’m so ready to be home! Water parks are not my thing but the boys had a blast. DS1 and I would leave H and the baby and do the magiquest games and have the best time.
Also, the baby slept in his first big boy (bunk)bed here in the hotel. And actually slept! It was fairly easy to put him down for naps too. Still going to live that crib life at home tho, but hopefully when we do transition to a bed it won’t be a shitshow.

Hi all! I am back at work this week after having a family vacation at the beach last week. Boo to being back to work. We are staying really busy, though, as we gear up for the start of another academic year. DD started back to preschool yesterday and had a rough start with not wanting me to leave, but ended up having a great day. DS is starting to pick up more words (finally!), a lot of them during our trip last week. August Blooms, so sorry to hear about your brother, but glad he's ok!

danvers Those pigtails are too cute!!! Love it. We’re officially back on the other side of the world. The trip back went okay...as well as traveling 30 hours with a 4 yr old and a 21 month old can go 🤷♀️🤣. I actually think both kids did a good job overall- it’s hard for adults to make that kind of trip, let alone little ones. We are all unpacked, and now just trying to get over jet lag. I can’t wait to stop waking up at 3am and wanting to take an 8 hr nap when it hits 2/3pm!!

Glad you're home safe Taitai. Do you guys get a lot of paid time off from your jobs there? I'm assuming so, since the US sucks and most other countries have a better work/life balance. I work with a lot of people who have family in other countries and they save up their time and take a month-long trip back home to see family every year or so, and your trip made me think of that.

I work with a lot of people who have family in other countries and they save up their time and take a month-long trip back home to see family every year or so, and your trip made me think of that. They definitely have more generous vacation/sick time benefits here, and I kid you not, this country has 15-16 public holidays a year on top of that. I actually find the numerous holidays excessive, and I work 90% of them holidays, because otherwise I wouldn’t be able to complete my work. I also did work about 10-20 hours per week while we were in the USA...I get plenty of time off, but if I took it all, my business would suffer too much. Still, I like my job and don’t mind hopping on the computer during nap times or after the kids are in bed - I guess I’m an American through and through that way, which is different from some of my European/Aussie friends 🤷♀️

August Blooms, Taitai thanks for the reco. I'll look for those. I don't see very many Zojis sold here except for rice cookers and I know they make great product. I may ask my parents to get it for us when they go home at the end of the year. I'll have to figure out what I can make that he'll eat at room temp. Probably lots of pasta salad which he likes

curmudgeon oh my! the jungle petting zoo sounds incredible. I love Lemurs and my boys would go mad as well. We have a Great Wolf lodge not terribly far. What's to do there? Can you go for just a day or is an all inclusive sort of deal? CoachTsWife, danvers our kiddos are all looking older and starting to lose their babyness. I really need to get lil fella's hair trimmed. Also danvers, did i miss about DD2's blood tests? cythe E's only been in therapy for a month or 2? it's great to hear she's responding though.

My country has a lot of public holidays too! It's crazy but schools don't take breaks as long as summer breaks as they do here. Being an Xpat I imagine you can negotiate for more time off. I remember I was able to do that when I was offered a position in Japan. Glad to hear you're all back safely and hopefully everyone will get through the jet lag soon.

So I completed the first phase of my project and currently waiting for client feedback so was off today and tomorrow and possibly Friday. I washed the porch, grocery shopped and stocked up my freezer, did some cleaning, spent way too much time on the phone with heath insurance and bills and scheduled my hysterectomy too. I am also super excited about picking up a used Thule Chariot tomorrow for a pretty great deal I found. Hubs and I had always wanted to get one but never got around to it and then lil fella happened so we never did. Hoping DS can fit in it too so on days I am not working on WFH I can fetch him in it plus me and lil fella can keep up with him and hubs when they go on a bike ride. I am also saddened by what happened and apprehensive about DS being in public school. Just a couple of months ago, all the schools in the area closed including DS' day care center due to the threat they received from a girl whom ended up committing suicide. Safety has become such a grave concern these days.

duskymonkey Sorry to hear that you will be getting a hysterectomy. If you don’t mind me asking, do you plan to leave your ovaries in? I have stage 4 endo and might be heading for a hysterectomy in the future, just because I get so much pain and bleeding during my cycle. I’ve heard that leaving the ovaries is beneficial, but I haven’t done a ton of research on it.

duskymonkey you can get a day pass to great wolf. It’s a huge indoor water park, a ropes course, and in the hotel is a scavenger hunt type deal which is really cool. The kids pick a magic wand and select different quests. They then go around the hotel hunting for all the objects to complete the quest. The objects interact with the wand so when they wave it at a picture or treasure chest it lights up and talks.

I had my first midwife appointment yesterday and have my dating ultrasound next week. I got some more packing done. I didn’t think we had that much stuff but then I started putting it and boxes and it is a lot. The IL’s want to come visit the last week of August I am very much against it. I’d like to be settled in the house before they come but I’m pretty sure they will end up coming anyways.
