E had her first dentist appointment today, and the dr gave me shit about her still having her binkie to sleep. I was planning to try taking it away before her birthday, but it’s been only for sleeping since about 15 months, so I thought we were good. She’s got a bit of an overbite, though, so the dentist was pretty stern about taking it away now. I’m dreading it.

Well, i took an initial step in that direction at naptime today. She normally has two to sleep with. One is attached to a stuffed animal/blanket and the other is just a solo pacifier. At naptime I just gave her the animal one. She asked for the other and said “uh oh” a few times, but then she fell right to sleep. I guess we’ll start here with just one, and then take that one away too.

L has....3 or 4 in there on any given day. I mean she has fallen asleep without one, after she’s pitched them out, but she’s not happy about it. After her birthday we’ll start trying to wean her of them. She just started sleeping though the night a month ago, so I’m not in a rush.

So he slept like shit and wanted it but we weren't there so the sitter weaned him lol I wouldn't worry too much. Ds3 had his for like... forever

E didn’t use a paci at his last babysitter’s but he does at home. And he’s definitely teething and wants the paci all the time right now which is not normal for him. He usually only wants it to sleep. I’m in no hurry to take it away.
I think we are in the 18 month sleep regression because we had finally gotten to only one wake up in the night and now we are back to like 4. Plus his nap isn’t great and so he’s plain exhausted all day. I don’t think he’s ever going to sleep through the night.

They don’t do much for the first couple of appts anyway, just a visual exam and a coat of fluoride.

DD’s dentist really wanted us to break the paci around 2, absolutely no later than 3. We waited until a few months after DS was born (DD being 2). DS has been weaned completely during daytime and naps, but I have no rush to break bedtime paci until well after 2.

DS hated his first appt and refused to let her brush. But it was good to find out about his development and she gave tips. I’m glad we started earlier because DD actually likes the dentist and was great at her 3 yo appt

I’ll wean the paci right around age 2. We’re mostly naps/sleep and car rides right now. As far as a dentist, DS1 has an appointment next week and I’ll be asking at what age they start.
I spent the last two days scrubbing our windows. I’m pretty convinced they hadn’t been cleaned since the day they were installed 17 years ago. It took me a whole bottle of windex and a lot of scrubbing power but I got them done!
We just got home from swimming at a friends so I’m hoping the boys will sleep in tomorrow... I’m not holding my breath though.

Our dentist won't really see kids until 3 and the first appointment is always just to count teeth and make them comfortable with the idea of having some in their mouth.

I should specify that our kids don’t go to our dentist. We take them to a pediatric dentist office.

I don’t know at what age our dentist starts seeing kids, but I had read something that said kids should go within 6 months of getting their first tooth, so H asked at his last appointment. E was 18 months at the time, and they said to schedule an appointment soon.

My friend who had her baby 2 days after I had C came over to hang out today. Her little girl is just like C, they’re both absolutely crazy. Running around, climbing everything, talking in their little voices - it was so cute and fun! She also has a 4 week old baby boy so I got my baby fix.

I’m spending the day at my parents while my H paints the kitchen and living room. It should have been a relatively quick process but the previous owners got grease everywhere! Regular paint isn’t covering the grease stains so he has to use the oil based Kilz brand primer and it has super bad fumes.
We got a break in the super hot weather so I think we’ll head to the park and maybe splash around with the water table.

N has had one dentist appt already. He went just over 18 months. DS1 has been going since just over a year. DS1 is almost 4 now and does amazing at the dentist. N hates having his teeth brushed so taking him to the dentist early and getting him used to it is very important to us. He also has all but 1 tooth and his 2 year molars. So many teeth.
Sorry I am not around much but I try to read. We are trying to get our house ready to put on the market and it is slowly killing me. I don't know if I mentioned but we are planning on buying my mom's house. We need to get ours listed and sold before that can happen and I am anxious. We are also going back and forth with the bank right now working on securing a mortgage pre-approval. This whole process is so stressful and I am beyond ready for it to be over.

Wow @ roloma, so many teeth! DD has 12 only still, but some more are on their way in I think. I was going to wait until she had her eye teeth in and then make an appointment. She's pretty good at brushing her teeth. In the morning I let her do whatever she wants with her toothbrush and then before bed she lets me get a decent brush in. I only worry about her top four front teeth because it's hard to get her lip back enough to see them, but they are quite spaced out at least, haha.
Good luck with selling the house, I'm hoping it'll all go relatively smoothly, not that it is ever perfect! We had talked about looking for a new house, but prices have just gone up so much that we'd be spending over $800k to make it worth a switch and that's just a lot to swallow right now even with our little place having gone up probably $200k. We'll put it off three years or so and consider it again before DD starts kindergarten.
But we did buy a new couch this weekend! And we got a Roomba on Prime Day. Now we just need to find a couple coordinating chairs to go with our couch. Anyone buy any comfy chairs lately? So I feel like we've spent enough lately!

First nap sans binky has commenced! I gave her the bunny it was attached to, and when she realized it was gone, she cried “broken.” Then, she started screaming, but after 7 minutes she was asleep. Fingers crossed tonight goes just as well.

blabbermouth, we’re in a similar boat with our house. We realistically could sell for close to $100k more than we owe, but to buy a house that would be an upgrade, we’d be doubling our mortgage. It’s just not worth it.

Our house closed last week and we made a sizeable profit, but is there where I admit that we are crazy over budget on the new place 😵 Like we're going to be poor AF when we're all said and done. Oops.

She’s asleep without a binky! There were a few minutes of minor crying, but all in all, it was easy. Here’s hoping she sleeps all night and is completely weaned from pacifiers!

N is off binkies during the weekday, only uses them at night and weekend naps. Not in a rush to get him off those, but we also don't have a dentist/appointment for him yet. I need to start looking into that.
The insane heat/humidity has finally broken. It's going to rain all day but I'm here for it.

He gets to "brush" his own teeth in the morning then at night I do it for him...which is like wrestling an alligator. I also worry about the top four because he won't let me get them very well. I try at least. With the house, we live in a pretty LCOL area in the midwest with a really good current house market. I am hoping to sell our house for around $60k more than we owe, but I am not sure where we will fall. The market, while good, is super wonky and homes are selling all over the place price-wise. The good thing with buying my mom's house is that we aren't need a realtor so our cost if lower than if we were using one. We are getting a very good deal, while they are still making the money they need. We would not be getting this much house for the price if we were out there looking on our own. Plus they are doing some updates and I got to pick out my own finishes and vanities. That's a bonus, for sure!

I took E's pacifier away when we moved her to a big girl bed at 20 months. I plan to take C's away at some point after we move and put her in a big girl bed too. E took one from day one and C only started taking one once I day weaned her off the boob after she turned a year. I think she'll be harder to break than E was.

My E was obsessed. Once we started giving it just for sleep, it became part of the routine. I’d ask, “Are you ready for bed?” And she’d yell “Binky!” She’d get so excited to get it out of the drawer. I thought taking it away would be a nightmare, but it’s been so easy compared to what I expected.
