pootsen, we don’t have a lot of clear words either he says hello, mama, uh oh, ew, nana (banana), dada, and si (snack). But, he understands everything and we always know what he wants. My mom was talking about his lack of words but then she saw that viral video of the dad talking to his baby on the couch. I guess the baby is around 18 months and realized E sounds just like that baby. I’m not that worried. N was an early talker so I figure E is on his own track.

We put up a temporary fence this weekend and it’s been a game changer. No more trying to keep E out of the front yard and the road. It was totally worth the $300.

Good morning!
I need a weekend do-over lol. Ds2 cried the entire way home from up north and the ride was an hour longer than normal- It was a nightmare! But I work a short week this week and then I am off the following, not a ton planned, H has lots of projects to get done and I’ll probably help some and purge.
Also- I downloaded the new Harry Potter game and its fantastic. It’s definitely going to get me to take the kids out to more parks and for walks around the neighborhood lol

pootsen, N has been really slow with his speech development as well. Our pediatrician keeps assuring me that he isn't at a point where she is worried yet and that she would take a closer look at where he is when we have his 2 year appt. He has been saying a lot more words in the last month so I am holding out hope. They probably can't be understood by many people outside of us that know what he is asking for/saying but it is coming along. I still worry a bit but I am trying to stay chill on it. He did put his first real two word phrase together..."go away" in response to me asking for a kiss. He's a little jerk. All that to say, I totally understand and feel you!

I think we are still at the stage where there is a wide range of ability to say actual words. From what my speech pathologist friend said, knowing they are communicating even without words is more important. C definitely understands more than she says.
She said "mommy" this weekend and I am so not ready for her to say that versus mama. The phrase was "no... mommy." So. I think that will be a staple in her vocabulary. LOL.

My ped says they look for like 3-5 intelligible words including mama and dad's at this point, and even then more doctor is very "give it until the next appointment before your worry" type of ped, so I wouldn't sweat it.
That said both my kids have been very early talkers. The older one literally never shuts up. It's exhausting sometimes. C is not far behind and I can only how much loud girl talking and yelling I'm in for.

L isn’t saying a whole lot either. He shrieks a lot which is fun. I am just waiting on that word explosion that’s supposed to happen soon. At his 18 mo check up the pedi said he needed 50 words and two word phrases by 2. Right now he only makes one syllable sounds really. Like animal sounds and the first letter of some words. The C sound for cat, for example. I do worry about it but I am telling myself not to spiral too much until he turns 2.

I brought E to a trampoline park during their toddler time this morning, and she had a blast. We were there until 11:30, though, and she’s usually napping by then. She slept for about 20 minutes on the ride home and then wouldn’t go back to sleep. This kid loves her crib, and it’s the only time she gets a binkie, so nap time is usual a breeze. Not today.
At 3:00, after 3 nap attempts, I put her in the car to go for a ride. She fell asleep immediately. She’s not a car sleeper unless she’s super tired, so I figured she’d go out. Now, it’s 3:30 and I’m sitting in a parking lot by the river watching some geese. haha I’m not going home until at least 4. She needs a half was decent nap.

I never thought I would’ve happy when N stopped napping but it made things so much easier. It’s exhausting planning things around naps or worrying about naps. I know some people are more go with the flow with their kids and sleeping. But that’s one thing I have been a stickler about.

Hi everybody, I'm procrastinating at work this morning. I have a repetitive task that takes all day and I'm not ready to dive in yet! Sorry for the crappy nap situation bethkate! I hope it was just a one off. I like my quiet time on weekends when DD naps, but it also cramps our style a bit sometimes. Although we're pretty boring so it's not that big of a deal. We're doing Hello Fresh again this week Last night's was pretty tasty. Hoping DH will cook tonight's recipe.

We drove home from our cabin last night. It’s a 4 hr drive so we figured we’d leave after dinner so the boys would sleep. C usually goes to bed around 6. He ended up screaming for over an hour before finally passing out. Then he’d wake up periodically and scream some more. Not pleasant lol.
We’re all exhausted today. I had a work training thing all day that was sooo boring. I’m also solo parenting tonight bc DH went to a Foreigner concert with his buddy. The boys and I got Mexican takeout (which they didn’t eat) and now I’m working on early bedtimes.

Ds2 has some weird fever virus. He has no other symptoms but has been running 102 since yesterday. The fever breaks with meds but as soon as they wear off he’s back up there again. Hopefully he’s better tomorrow otherwise I’ll be heading to the pediatrician.

After the fever was gone, she broke out in a rash, so the dr said it was probably roseola. FX it’s no big deal for you guys too.

We’ve got plans to head to the beach with my dad today. Last time, E hated the sand, so we’ll see how it goes today. I’m not hopeful. haha Worst case, we’ll just walk back to my dad’s and hang out there.

LT for commiseration, jules1614 - hope he's feeling better! quinn - that sounds awesome! Sorry no big treasure but it sounds like you still had an amazing time We had a great weekend in MA - my dad was absolutely floored, and swears he had no idea. Big props to my mom, brother, and SIL for keeping it secret, it was hard enough for me and I live 450 miles away! He's officially retired now and he just seems so much happier! We took N to the pool for the first time and he was pretty unsure about it. We're going to sign him up for swim lessons when the next series starts. He did OK on the plane rides, and major thanks to the two gentlemen sitting next to us on the way up for being extremely understanding that N has no concept of personal space. Unfortunately N started running a fever that Sunday through Monday. It broke in spectacular fashion Monday night (woke up drenched in sweat), but per DC rules I kept him home Tuesday. Probably a short bug, but he's also clearly teething so who knows. He was totally fine Tuesday, and we sent him to DC yesterday since he'd been over 24 hours with no fever. Got a call yesterday afternoon that he was having diarrhea. Poor kiddo. He's home today again, but thankfully H took off to stay with him so I could go to the office. In the absence of other symptoms, I think teething/swallowing drool is still the culprit, but clearly traveling knocked his system out of whack. N has a handful of clear words, and lots of emphatic toddler babble to fill in the rest. Curse the person who taught him "Mine!" though. Our house sounds like a constant stream of the seagulls from Finding Nemo.

I know some people are more go with the flow with their kids and sleeping. But that’s one thing I have been a stickler about. This is so funny, because I was literally just texting my friends about this. We are going to the beach on Saturday, and we have to go to breakfast at a certain time to make sure we can have beach time for a couple hours before nap. Everything is planned around nap. It's better for everyone, but it is annoyed to plan around for sure. We haven't gone to the county fair yet because it doesn't open until 11. I like getting to things when they open because parking is easier, but it is right before nap. We are actually going to attempt to pick the girls up tomorrow at 3 pm since I work early and H doesn't have any meetings, and go for like 2-3 hours before bedtime (which is also super early and makes things difficult, but DD2 needs it, lol).

I’m so tired. I’ve had a lot on my mind and stress the last week and a half. I’ll expand on that here at some point. About every other night, I have bad insomnia and up half the night because of it.

The sand still freaks her out, but in her sneakers, she was fine. I need to get her some good water shoes to wear next time. Hopefully we’ll be able to go in the water next time too, but I was happy with her just hanging out and playing in the sand for two hours yesterday without any tears.

I had big plans to spend the day playing Harry Potter but of course it’s raining like crazy. So now I’m cleaning which needs to be done but isn’t as much fun lol. We’re heading up to the cabin tonight through Monday and I have off the rest of the week too so I’m sure there will be plenty of opportunity to play.

I brought N to a Drag Queen Story Hour this morning. It was really fun. They read some great books about being different and yourself. The whole concept has been a big deal in the area because of so many narrow minded people. We had to get there early to get tickets.
