Hugs, pootsen and bethkate - and extra wine too! It's been a busy week at work, so apologies for not being around much. I officially put away all of N's bottles! Woohoo! H just called me. He's been miserable at work but hasn't been looking hard for something new because he can't decide what he wants to do. But he's at his breaking point. He told me he's got his resignation letters typed, and wanted me to talk him out of it. I'm like H, I don't want you to be unhappy, but... N. I can't support this family on my paycheck alone - we have some savings but job searches are so unpredictable, so who knows how long it will take. He doesn't even have a prospect on the horizon, and the place he would likely be able to find work the fastest is back at a hotel, which made him miserable before. So is trading the devil you know worth it? Basically he hopes that handing in his resignation will spur management to undo the changes that caused everything to get shitty, but we have to be prepared for them to call H's bluff, which I don't think we are. I don't know what else to tell him. He hasn't fully made up his mind yet but said he will call me later. Glad I bought donuts today. Jesus.

That's tough cakewench. I know for ME personally I wouldn't expect them to counter offer a resignation. Unless he has a highly specialized position where there are not a lot of people in that field. But I can sympathize with being at a terrible job. Hopefully you guys figure it out soon.

We’re having a great day. I love having fridays off. The boys and I got donuts this morning and had a breakfast picnic. We played at 2 different parks, went for a walk/bike ride, and picked up some new books at the library all before 10am. C took an hr nap (really all we can hope for these days..), ate lunch, and now we’re at my parent’s house so ds1 can help my mom plant some flower seeds and C is splashing around in their fountain.
My ILs are taking the boys overnight for a sleepover with their cousins so DH and I are going to go out to dinner and hit up Costco.

Thanks, guys. H texted that he decided to not do it today, so at least we have the weekend to talk and work out a plan, if that's really what he wants to do.
At least his resume is already updated...

My DD1 is 7 today! I can’t believe how mature and responsible she’s gotten, and she’s just such a happy kid. C and I came home from the hospital last night after chemo, and I’m grateful for that. We were going to the beach today but now the weather is crappy (we’ve needed the rain though). I’m taking her to see Aladdin this weekend, and my mom, brother, and SIL will be here to celebrate. Happy birthday to your big kid!!

So ds2 and I had to stay home from my neighbor's party tonight. We walked up with our dish and there was a bowl of trail mix with peanuts. 😤 This is the second time that she's had or brought dishes with peanuts to neighborhood events. And yes, I get it -- if you are not impacted by food allergies you don't think about it, but we've talked about it before. It's so frustrating.

It is really hard to navigate food allergies and parties. We live in the land of dairy so we are just extra vigilant. I also didn't eliminate dairy from our house so we're always on guard that ds1 (and us) wash our hands frequently. Our friends are pretty conscientious too but I bring our own food for ds2 to parties and watch the other kids carefully and will ask them to wash their hands if they're eating and go to play. Eta- I'd be frustrated in that scenario because it's not that hard to NOT put peanuts in trail mix especially if you know there's a kid with an allergy. I hope you told her why you needed to leave.

Ds1 invited a couple of kids from his class to his birthday party this year. I obviously didn’t know them well so I made sure to ask about allergies when their moms RSVP’d. +1 to what Jules said, I hope she knows why you had to leave.

She is also the neighbor who says she's not coming to stuff then shows up anyway (and has dietary restrictions herself). I'm still upset about it quite honestly. I had dh make homemade dip vs from a seasoning packet to accommodate for her dietary restrictions (vegetarian) but she can't manage to not have a bowl of peanuts at kid level.

I feel like asking about allergies is pretty standard procedure nowadays. And I agree, it's not hard to make trail mix without peanuts. That feels so very slap in the face to me. I'm irritated for you.

Hello, hello! I ran a 5k this morning with my mom friends from boot camp. The heat and DD1 being inconsolable for like two hours in the middle of the night killed me. I felt terrible during the race. But I'm glad I went, I had a nice time with my mom tribe. H just left for the night for bachelor party with all his buddies. The girls just got up from naps so we're going to head over to my bestie house and let the kids play in the sprinkler since her H is going too.

I’ve only got 3.5 school days left!
The kids actually had a half day yesterday so that the custodial staff and admin could get the building ready for graduation last night. Most of the teachers had very little to do, though, because grades already closed, so my coworker and I went for a 2.5 mile run. It’s amazing what you can accomplish with an hour lunch break when you’re used to 20 minutes!

Thanks cnf and bethkate. Dh spoke with her and we will do a general reminder before the next neighborhood get together too. 🤷 I always ask about allergies/dietary restrictions before hosting an event (and did so before ds2 was dx with his). I'm working on letting it go.

Both boys just crashed at 5pm 😬 Just seeing this now- how early did they wake? We actually woke them up after about 45 mins. We had friends who came over to stay the night and they have a little boy so I knew they’d all want to play. All the boys ended up going to bed around 8:30 so it actually worked out okay!

DD has actually been sleeping until 7 some days lately, so that's pretty enjoyable. Not much going on around here, but we had a good weekend. I got out yesterday morning for a long hike with some friends, then we had a couple and their 7 year old daughter over for dinner. The girls had a bath together (7 year old had a bathing suit) so that was fun for them. Today we got breakfast with my parents and finally bought dd a water table. After nap time dd and I met a friend and her 6 month old for a walk and a play at the park then came home for a splash. It wasn't super sunny, but reasonably warm. It was nice to just be able to sit outside and chill while she didn't try to fall down the deck stairs etc. for a change. We also got fro-yo after dinner

Happy Monday ladies. I'm only happy it's Monday because I know 1 week from today will be my last day of school. We had a crazy weekend. Saturday was filled with chores because yesterday we drove to MA for our nephew's birthday party. The drive was misery of course because E hates being in the car. I really need to just stick to 1 hour car rides tops for a while. Anything longer than that is pure hell.

OMG sarahandben108 - the light at the end of the tunnel is finally here! FX this week flies by - longest. school year. ever. It feels that way sometimes. LOL. But the kids only have 3.5 days left. Tomorrow is a workshop day (we have voting in our building so it's a teacher's workshop day), Thursday the kids "step up" in the morning, and Friday is field day. Next Monday they get out at 11:30. So there is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel.

Hmm. That's tricky cakewench. Does the coworker realize that they are not handling the scheduling well? If he/she does, then I would think that they would be happy to go to the Boss and say, I'm not cut out for this job. If he/she doesn't realize it, then maybe it is time for HR to be involved. If your H really feels like this is a personal agenda against him then he should try to address it.

HR knows what's going on. They all do, except the GM. It's so dysfunctional.
H believes Coworker is close to retiring, so it may be moot soon? Doesn't fix the situation with Boss, but at least H can take better care of the staff.

Hi there. Data reset so I’m back! 🤣
Ds woke at 6:30 local time; we are so effed when we got back to CA! 😭
Not much today other than going to visit my great grandma and dinner tonight. Kids will probably enjoy some final 4 wheeler rides and outdoor fun. Tomorrow is traveling.
