New week means new randoms! It is the Victoria Day/May long weekend for us! For me that means buying and planing and trying to get the yard cleaned up and a bit more usable. DH is going to mow and I want to spray the deck off again which is a losing battle with dust since there is still construction everywhere

We have sooooo many outside chores as well. We have 2 acres with multiple flower gardens and fruit trees. I loved taking care of everything pre-kids but seem to have no time now. I did get the front weeded today in about an hour today while the girls drove their powerwheels car around but it started to rain and hasn’t stopped since. The rain forced a nice long nap for DD2 and I though which was nice.

We have given up on our yard. We’ve tried and failed to get landscapers and fence builders out and we did get one landscaper to give us a quote but now he won’t call us back. 2 fence people have come out but neither ever gave us a quote. So 🤷♀️ I guess it’s just going to continue to be a mess.

bootsorhearts1 do you think your yard is too much work and scares them off? Or maybe this is just a common issue because my parents wanted a pergola and patio built and had the hardest time getting people to give quotes or even call back. Hope y’all can find someone good who does a good job.

Oh hi! Yeah we have lots of outside chores we need to get done. My mom gave me some flowers and a hummingbird feeder for Mother's Day and I have yet to get the flowers potted. I was hardly home last week and when I was it seemed like it was raining. It rained all day Saturday and we were gone yesterday so they are still sitting there. They look ok so far but man I need to get the potted asap. Our front flower bed/landscaping needs to be overhauled but we don't really know what to do with it. We had to replace our fence a couple years ago. It cost $4k. Our house was apparently the first one with a fence because we own the entire portion around our house and our neighbors just hook onto ours. Apparently we could've asked neighbors to chip in on the sides they share, as per the fence company, but we didn't. We have a unique set up that requires 3 gates, so that really made the price shoot up. Yesterday we celebrated my niece's HS graduation. She was Valedictorian! Super proud of her, and we had a fun day with my family, but man it was a marathon day. She is my brother's daughter, he is the one who lives on the farm so my boys were stoked to go back. 🐴🐮🐶🐈 DS2 refused to sit down and eat - he finally sat down long enough to eat a cookie for supper. I never ever give in if the boys won't eat what is served. I was tired enough and mom goes "oh, one time won't hurt..." If that is not the definition of "grandma" I don't know what is. 😂 We got home late last night and DS2 was awake at 5:30am.

Ev is learning about dipping. Everything can be dipped!
French fries in ketchup! Carrots in ranch dressing! Strawberries in oatmeal! Raspberries in mac and cheese?

Add to the list: Watermelon in guacamole, apple slices in ketchup, sausage in whipped cream. Whatever kid, you do you.

A tool to effectively shovel in more ketchup 😂

DS2 would NOT TOUCH anything that had ketchup on it for a good while. Now it is said vessel for eating more dip.
Chicken with ranch? Yes (Cooked) carrot with ranch? Yes Fries with ketchup? Maybe Hamburger with ketchup? Usually
Broccoli with ketchup? YES YES YES
So gross, that last one.

We tried so hard to get DD1 to do dips when she was in food therapy and she was not about it.
DD2 is living the dips life. Anything for some ketchup. She loves salsa too.
We’re not really a “ranch” family but I might need to try for both DD1’s pickiness and DD2’s love of dipping.

Got everything planted and the yard cleaned up today and it looks great! However I got a sunburn 😒 We had tacos for dinner and now I am relaxing in the bath with a lavender bubble bar, cherry sparking water and last week’s episode of greys. Nice end to the day, pretty sure I’m going to be super stiff tomorrow though

cythe Bahaha to that gandolph meme. I’ve been there. doodlemommy That sounds like a great way to end your day! You should have thrown on a sheet mask! 😉 bootsorhearts1 I’ve never had to take care of a yard, and I honestly don’t think it’s something I could do. It’s just so much work, and I just have never ever enjoyed that kind of stuff. Same goes for cooking and handling repairs around the house. Basically- I fail at adulting. 🤣.

DS2 isn’t super into dips - he eats really well and will try just about anything, but he hates getting goo on his fingers. He also doesn’t like when said “goo” is on his food. That said, we had Japanese pork katsu the other day, and DS2 did keep sticking his fingers on the salty brown sauce to eat that up. So maybe only certain sauces are ok for now?
Eventful weekend- DS2 fell and ended up chirping a corner of one of his front teeth 😩. He is getting it filled and repaired tomorrow, but he has to go under for it due to his age. Ugh. His tooth is so sharp now, which is painful for nursing and likely not too fun for him. Can’t wait for it to be fixed.

Taitai oh no! Poor little guy! Hopefully the repair is quick and easy (for both of you!). I thought about adding a face mask last night but decided too late (I was already in the tub) and DH wasn’t home to get me one 😕 Maybe tonight!

We had swim lessons last night and 5 minutes in they cleared the pool because some kid puked in it. UUUUGGGHHHH. They sent us to the lap pool, which is 4'3" deep at the shallowest spot and DS2 was not comfortable despite DH and I being in the water with him. That pool was also a lot colder and all the littles were shivering so it was basically a huge waste of time. DS1's class also moved to the lap pool - they were mostly able to finish their class there, at least. I'm so sick of the rain and storms. Traffic on my commute is bad, the kids can't go outside and play, it is so dreary and I think everyone just needs some consistent warmth and sun.

I am looking to book a last-minute beach trip with my mom and the kids next weekend. The only things left are bigger condos that cost a fortune. I'm determined to find that perfect, last-chance, small room!
In other news, DS's new favorite word is "Yeah". Or, more specifically "YAH!".
"DS, are you ready to eat" - "YAH!" "DS, you want to take a bath" - "YAH!"
It's so cute.

CoachTsWife that swimming experience sounds kind of miserable - I hope it’s better for you all next time. I can’t really blame your DS for not loving a cold pool cythe DD2 dipped her blueberries in ketchup tonight. H was super grossed and tried “explaining” to her why she shouldn’t do it. lol dude because it really doesn’t make sense to a 19 month old which category of foods are to be dipped in ketchup and which aren’t socially acceptable to do so. 😂 thatgirlrachel DD2 just started saying “no” and it’s adorable and so not parentally appropriate to laugh when she replies no to everything but also I’m just happy she has more words so I take what I can get 🤷♀️. Yah sounds equally endearing 😊

It needs to be the weekend! Not that we have huge plans for Memorial Day but these last days of school are draggggggggging ok forever. I’m trying to fill the time with some kind of meaningful nonsense but it’s hard to keep 21 little people engaged with summer around the corner. It’s also like 50° out and I need it slightly warmer so we can spend large portions of our remaining school days outside playing. 😏

Ketchup is a definite fav around here. Tonight he dipped Mac n cheese and fries in ketchup and when he ran out of things he just used a spoon to scoop it up.
He is starting to say “yes” and it’s so cute how he enunciates it. And he’s very agreeable. Do you want to go night night? Yes! Do you want a cookie? Yes! Do you want to read a book? Yes!
He’s also been grabbing my face and kissing it all over. It’s so funny.

It usually takes 3-4 hugs and several kisses before he feels he has loved us sufficiently. He will hug, walk away, run right back, hug, and repeat. I'm not complaining.

Does anyone have plans for the long weekend? Somehow having a few friends over turned into 20+ people and kids coming over Monday. Here’s hoping the weather is mild so I can keep them outside and not have to clean my house for company.

CoachTsWife Yuck about puke in the pool! Sorry that it ruined the swim lessons for the kids. Total bummer. thatgirlrachel Awwwww about the loving and cuddles! I’m going to miss this stage very much in the future - I am sure of it. curmudgeon How cute about your little one saying Yes! enthusiastically to everything. Mine does that sometimes, but lately he’s been going “no, no, no, no” and shaking his head if we ask him to do something that isn’t up his alley. He’s also discovered that he can say “bye bye” to people he doesn’t want to be around or is scared of - I think he’s going to insult someone soon! I totally forgot about Memorial Day. It’s just a normal day here, so no plans. BUT the week after is the Queen’s birthday, so we get a 3 day holiday for that 👍. No plans though.

DS2’s tooth repair went really well today! His teeth look just like they did before, and it doesn’t feel like I’m trying to nurse a kid with razor blades in his mouth anymore. Yayyyyy!

Here’s hoping the weather is mild so I can keep them outside and not have to clean my house for company. We live on a river and have an entire lot cleared where we can lay out and the water is shallow enough for the kids. So, we will likely be there all weekend. Another family member has a pool, so we may alternate. But swimming, sunning, and grilling - and adult beverages - are my only plans. It's supposed to be 99 here all weekend, so I hope it isn't as scorching for you!
