I went in to my weekley Dr appointment on Thursday the 9th, the day before my due date. My doctors had originally said that since my GD was so well managed that we can just wait till I go into labor on my own, but induction was mentioned if I did not go soon, so I said yes to a membrane sweep (I had one with my son, and had him within 24 hours). I had only had a few contractions, but was at 2cm dilated. I did not even bleed all day from the sweep, and only had a few more contractions, so I started getting nervous about induction.
Friday a few more contractions throughout the day. Then around 8pm I started getting them about 10 minutes apart, still not really painful at all. This continued till I layed down around 2am from being so sleepy. At that point contractions went to about every 30 minutes, and I was able to get some much needed cat naps in.
I slept till 8:30am, and wondered if it was even the day, since everything slowed down so much. I went down to get breakfast, and I had my first painful contractions around 9am. I went up to take a hot shower, and swayed through contractions for a little over 30 minutes in the shower. Contractions were coming hard and fast, like 2 minutes apart, and I could barely manage through the pain so it was time to go.
The kids cried when we left, that they wanted to go with us, but I did not have time to comfort them, I was so miserable, so I felt so bad.
The drive was 20 minutes of awful.
DH has a picture of me in the hospital elevator at 10:14am. Got to labor and delivery, I could not walk so they got me a wheelchair. They asked if it was my first, said no, 3rd. They asked if I had fast deliveries, DH and I laughed and said no. DH filled in some paperwork, and they wheeled me to a room.
As I was getting undressed I said I want an epidural, and since it was Saturday, was I going to have to wait too long. They said they had seen him around, but I still needed fluids first.
I layed down to get monitors on, and get hooked up to the IV. The nurse checked me, and I was at 6cm, but really, really soft. She immediatly started walking out of the room and asked if I needed anything, and at that moment I really really had to go poop, and told her so. She ran over, and said it might be the baby, dont push, checked, and yep, it was the baby. Someone got the doctor, and I was pushing. I had had epesiotomies with my other 2, so I was so scared it was too fast, and i was going to tear like crazy. The ring of fire was almost immediate once I was pushing. I think I pushed about 4 times, and baby was out.
Team green turned team blue!
DH has a picture of him on my chest at 10:34am (born at 10:33am), so I was actually at L&D for less than 20 minutes before having the baby. And I had painful contractions for about 1.5 hours. Really glad we left for the hospital when we did!
I only had a first degree tear, so that was not too bad. I was GBS positive, and did not get antibiotics so we had a mandatory 48 hour stay. We got delayed cord clamping, and DH cut the cord. I was sewed up while he was on my chest, and he nursed for about 60 minutes. Everyone left for the bonding hour, then came back later to do measurements.
He was 7lbs, 1oz, 20.25inches long.
On day 2 we finally decided to name him Leo. He is nursing really well! We had some close Jaundice numbers, so a few extra checks, but they were never high enough to take any action, and he is in the clear now. He had to have sugar checks before he nursed for the first 12 hours because of my GD, but he passed those with flying colors.
I have no idea how to add pictures, maybe I will try and figure it out later.
This was quite long, but I still can't get over how quick he came! My other 2 were sunny side up most of labor, and he was not, so it made for a faster labor.
