I feel you. I really really need to get one but I do not want to spend the $$$ on a clock that may not work to keep DD in her room. This one is reasonably priced with mixed reviews and it's probably fine. I kind of like this one which is a smart lamp w/ different colors that you can control with an app on your phone (mixed reviews on how well the app works). My other idea was to find a cute light and plug it into a smart outlet that I can program or to get a smart bulb w/ different colors for a lamp I already own (this is where a cute 3D printed lampshade comes in, so totally unnecessary). We had the first and switched to a hatch baby, which looks like it might be similar to the second. I didn’t like that the light on the first one wouldn’t stay on all night and needed something that would stay red (or whatever the no color is) all night long

When you say birth to 3, are you referring to early intervention? At age 3, you go through your school district’s preschool special education program for evals. For us, I simply had to call and explain my concerns (behavior + speech for us), and they provided us with info to get the ball going. I called our pediatrician and gave a run down of symptoms. He agreed an eval was warranted and provided a name of someone he recommended. I called that provider directly, gave them what our concerns were, and they scheduled the appointment. The long wait between call and appointment was the worst part of it. I’m not sure what normal 3 year old behavior is, to be honest, but as I’ve told others, I’m a huge proponent in asking for evals when you suspect an issue because the earlier it’s found, the better So I think what I'll do is schedule the call and switch over to the new pedi tomorrow and make a first appointment. Then I'll bring it up then to get a fresh, unbiased perspective and see if they have recommendations on who to see. I think that’s an excellent plan. A fresh set of eyes does wonders. FWIW, it was our regular pediatrician who first hinted that DS1 might be special needs and mentioned doing the initial EI evaluation

I’d go with the second one, to be honest. The overnight light helps with the consistency of “this color means still sleep; when it turns this color, it’s time to get up.” The first one you posted goes out about a half hour after you hit it to activate and doesn’t turn back on until it’s time to wake. Both my kids still sleep with sound machines, which is why we have the hatch 🤷🏼♀️ I find it helps them stay asleep and sleep longer

DD has to have the sound machine. After her bedtime story she will sometimes walk over to the Hatch baby and she makes a shhh sound. piratecat I got our hatch baby from one of those baby consignment shops. I felt like my baby gadget purchases were getting out of hand. It was half price.

It finally happened..the moment of motherhood I have been dreading....
J pooped in the tub! She crouched down and asked her if she was pooping and she said yes, but I thought she was just doing the whole saying yes to everything thing. And then it happened. It felt like it was happening in slow motion. I just screamed, froze and pulled her out of the tub. DH handled the rest. The poop out of the diaper was just on a different level. I’m praying this never, ever happens again. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️

My boys know when their hatch turns on (both light and sound), they know it’s time to calm down and start getting ready for bed. It runs all night so the message that it’s not okay to get up is clear, and switches to green when it’s okay. Best thing we ever got. I used to have a separate sound machine, but once I found these, we switched

I want a Hatch Baby. ASAP. DS was up and yelling at 5:10 this morning. WHY, CHILD?? It wasn't even daylight. It was dark and rainy and GLORIOUS sleeping weather.

Do you think he'll "get it" enough at 20 mo? I thought about it a few months ago, but I don't think it would have done much of anything at that point. He slept until at least 6:00 back then, though.

ttcbabyj, DD did that once. It was only a little bit but it was enough to make me want to burn my bathroom down. MH handled baths for the rest of that week. And we started putting DD on the potty right before we did bathtime.

I knew the day would come, I was just hoping it would happen in the portable tub thing we used when she was younger. On hair wash or co-wash days I bath with her because the hair rinsing this is this big deal. I just can’t even imagine if I was actually in the tub. 🙅🏽♀️🙅🏽♀️

DS2 got it around 13/14m so yes. The key is consistency- you don’t go in until the light turns green, and then you make it a big deal. “look! The light is green! You can get up now!!” It takes a few weeks for them to really remember, but then it’s just part of their routine. If you have to put them back to bed before then, no nonsense when you go “no, light is still red, time to sleep” and walk out

Unless he sounds like he's in distress, we don't go in before 6:00 anyway. But this would be giving him a visual along with us coming to get him.

ttcbabyj, we've had a few poop in tub incidents and it's the worst. We haven't had one in a while so I truly hope those days are behind us. I don't even want to think about being in the tub when it happens. *SHUDDER*

You did the bluetooth one right? Yes! I ended up getting this one because I liked the shape and size better and this company makes a bunch of other stuff like smart outlets, etc. It's just a cheap plastic lamp but I drew on some eyes and the app works pretty well. It does have a red standby light that gives the whole lamp a faint red glow even when the lamp is off, which is fine for me and I just keep the lamp off at night because the glow is enough in the dark. If you/your kid likes complete darkness this might not be a good option. I turn it on to a yellow light at 5AM and then green light at wake up time. I didn't have luck connecting it to my Google Home but I didn't try very hard either. Second day today, he woke up early and called for me and fussed for a bit, but then laid back down and maybe fell back asleep for a little while. The next time I checked the monitor he was just laying awake in bed hanging out and then a couple of minutes before the green light went on he was just sitting up very calmly and excitedly pointed to the light when it went green. It was amazing. He told me yesterday that he didn't want to nap so I told him that he didn't need to sleep but that he needed to stay quietly in his crib while the lamp was yellow until it turned green. He protested for a bit but then hung out quietly with some toys I let him bring into the crib and then did end up falling asleep. I think we may be headed towards quiet time instead of nap soon and I think this will work well for that too.

I am still in awe of how well the lamp is working. He is still waking up earlish but I heard not a peep out of him this morning. He just seems so relaxed and content playing with his dolls in his crib.

piratecat , that is awesome! I never did pull the trigger on the Hatch last week, so maybe I'll try that one and see what happens. I'm sure the Hatch is nicer but this has been a great lower-cost alternative and seems to be getting the job done. I like how customizable and flexible it is compared to the non-Hatch ok-to-wake clocks that you can't control from your phone.

DD said tonight that she wanted to shoot the cats and when I quizzed her on where she heard that she started talking about guns. She said she heard it from her teacher, which I'm positive she didn't. I did get a classmate's name but this is coming from my very imaginative 3 year old.
I tried really hard not to be at an immediate 11 but I'm sure I was not very successful at maintaining my cool. I explained how guns are very dangerous and can hurt people very badly and we do not joke or talk about them. Should I say anything else? Follow up with her teacher? How do I express how serious this is without freaking her out?

sheilathetank, I don't have good advice but I didn't want to not respond. That would take me aback too. I think I would mention it to the DCP as a heads up so that they could be prepared to address it when they hear the kid talking about it there.

I called the school and spoke with the director and they were already on top of it. They said it's been an issue lately and they are actively working on correcting it and getting the parents of the "offenders" involved to help curb the behavior at home. I'm satisfied for now but I still feel iffy for some reason. I want to go back to where my biggest concern was whether she was eating enough. This is a whole different realm of parenting that I don't know if I'm ready or adequately prepared for.
