H and I are considering being OAD, but aren’t sure. Either way, we don’t want another baby for at least a couple years probably. My 6 week appt is in 1 week.
I had a Paragard IUD (the copper one), but only for about 7 months. One day the IUD fell, and the T was sitting on my cervix and the arms were scratching/digging into my ute, which caused bleeding. That IUD came out very shortly after that. So I don’t think another IUD is for me.
I’ve been on many different BCPs over the years. I’ve also tried Nuva Ring and the patch. I still want to continue breastfeeding, so I’m sure that will limit some BC options.
H and I loathe using condoms, but will if needed. I’m not sure that I want to rely on condoms only for BC though.
So...what are y’all using or planning to use for BC?

Oh god Paraguard.
I had that for a year after DD and it was the worst. I felt so much better when I finally got it removed. I’m not sure another IUD is for me either but if I do, it would be Mirena.
I don’t think I will continue breastfeeding once I go back to work, so I’m thinking it will be the pill for me for awhile, but H is going to get a vasectomy.

Following. I have my 6 week appointment tomorrow and we’re OAD, I’ve only ever been on the pill but was considering Mirena.

I got the Mirena again, I had it after I had E and loved it. I had no periods the 3 years I had it after her and no problems. I got my period a few days after I had it taken out and my cycles were regular immediately. I got it inserted almost 2 weeks ago now and I think I've finally stopped spotting from the insertion, that didn't happen the first time (I had no spotting).
I wanted something I didn't have to worry about every day and would last a while since we're not sure if we're done or not, and 5 years feels like enough time to either decide to try again or get MH an appointment.
I have a friend that has used the arm implant and liked it, maybe that's a good option for you?

Well my baby screaming all night is working right now lol. 😭😂
We’re planning on TTC #2 around a year, so I’ll be back on hormonal BC until then. Although it took us 15 months and some intervention to get this baby, so who knows about the next one.

I’ve read that the progestin can drop milk supply pambee, so that is Mirena, the arm implants, and the mini pill. It seems like there isn’t a fabulous option for me for BC. I guess I’ll see what my OB recommends on Monday.

I guess I’ll see what my OB recommends on Monday. Hm interesting those were the 3 most common breastfeeding friendly options I thought. I haven't noticed an effect on my milk supply and I nursed E for 13 months with it, but I know that every body is different of course. I'm sure your OB will be able to determine the best option(s) for you!

I won't be going on birth control. My h can get snipped or use condoms. I have no desires for a third and my h is adamant about being done at 2.
If there were an oops baby that would be fine with me but I will not be ttc again.
Weirdly, when I had this baby I was asked multiple times if I wanted my tubes tied while I was there. And my mom asked me too! I was like...why??? Because I'm almost 38 I guess?

My OB asked me the day of my surgery too if I wanted my tubes tied and I think it was because they were already going to be in there and a lot of people request that now. I was a little taken aback because she hadn't mentioned it before then and my answer was no, but I guess she just wanted to be sure. That's weird that so many people asked you though, including your mom.

I'll go on the pill again (was on it til 2013, then off since then). If my migraines get worse again, then H will decide between getting V or condoms. Neither of us want an opps, or a 4th (or potentially 5th, since risk of more twins is higher now that we have twins).

My H got the snip 2 weeks ago, but I used the mini pill between DS1 and DS2. I got a mirena between DS2 and DS3. I used it for a year and was still spotting and switched to the nuvaring. I nursed each of my older boys for 2 years on these birth control options.

Yogurt, I will be 38 in a few months too. I did get my tubes tied though (removed, actually). I always thought we'd have 2 kids, MAYBE three, but I didn't think my H would go for #3. With twins, we've got that and with the cost of childcare, etc. another would be really hard. So I had the procedure, but the doctor was in there anyway for the c section. Otherwise my H would've had the V. In between DD and TTC again, we just did condoms. It was cheap and easy, and I didn't want to go on hormonal BC.

OB recommended Mirena even with my IUD history. She also said I could use Nexplanon. I started the mini pill last night to use until I make a decision about what I want to do.
Mirena users...what are your thoughts about it? Loved it, hated it?

I’m getting mirena put in next week, for anyone that’s had it did you have bad side effects from the pills you take beforehand? They said I could take vaginally to cut back on that but I wasn’t sure if it was worth it.

I didn’t have to take anything for mine the last time. I don’t remember, but did you have a csection?

Something to make it hurt less, I assumed that was standard but maybe not. I did not have a c section.

Gotcha - I was thinking if you had a csection they might have wanted you to take something like that if your cervix never dilated. I didn’t have much pain at all with the insertion, I believe a single cramp with the insertion and a little crampy the remainder of the day. By the next day I was fine. However if my doctor had encouraged me to take something to make it less painful I think I would. Sorry I can’t help with the side effects of that medicine.

bex15 I had Paragard placed, not Mirena, but they didn’t have me take any pills beforehand and I hadn’t had a baby yet. TW Those pills are used when people are miscarrying and also for labor induction. They cause uterine contractions and softening of the cervix. End TW Since you’ve just had a baby, I’m not sure why they’re having you use those???

Thanks orangehibiscus, I’m going to double check with the doctor before taking. I've heard of doctors having patients use this, however my doctor did not either time. TW I did however take cytotec for my miscarriages last year, and I think it's basically the same thing. I took them vaginally.
