Why no thread yet so I am going to start one! Tell me what plans do you have for Easter this weekend?

curmudgeon Easter is a religious holiday so DS' school doesn't really do anything for it plus they also don't allow outside food which i am bummed about cos I'll be constantly sending DS to school with baked goodies and they also don't encourage candy and prefer hand made cards and such. To be perfectly honest, it isn't' the most exciting but I do try to make things with DS for his friends during the holidays or Vday, or get them things which they can use and discard. I guess I think too much and do not need another piece of toy which I feel we are drowning in currently. Brings me to a question, DS' birthday is coming up and 1. thinking of asking for No presents for his birthday like I have been but I am wondering if at 5, do kids get buying and receiving gifts for friends? 2. I can't fit all the kids (26) in his class & their family so I was thinking of just inviting maybe 5-6 kids which he mostly plays with? What do you all think?

rebeccabunch I have to wait for GOT to come out on DVD we don't have cable and can i tell you I am dying DYING to watch it! We're not religious but we'll celebrate it anyways and we already had an egg hunt this past weekend with the town and another for our neighborhood this weekend. Lil fella was like all confused but managed to pick up a few eggs...his big bro helped bring him some eggs so that was really good of him - surprisingly so. We'll see if he's figured it out for this weekend. I am planning on leaving an egg trail for DS Sunday morning from his room all around the house and filling them with berries, dried fruit, nuts and M&M and gummy bears. The golden egg will have a special candy - thinking a Ferraro Rocher or Lindt bunny? Hubs already requested a prime rib roast and I'll be trying out a carrot cake recipe which we'll be dropping off to a few neighbors so I don't eat it all LOL! so that's what we have planned.

Also today was kinda a sad day. All the schools in the area were closed including DS' due to the threat which was all over the news. I feel sad for the girl and her family and how all this needn't have happened if she could have gotten help. I also don't get how can an 18 year old be allowed to purchase a gun...it's not even hunting season - I don't think it is? I am just sad about the current state of affairs we live in.

What do you all think? i would be so thrilled if DS’s school didn’t allow outside food. But I don’t think they have rules and even let people bring homemade items in. Which makes me cringe. It’s a private Christian school and they are having an egg hunt and party etc. The works. For the birthday, I’ve received invites mentioning no gifts but all the kids still brought one, so not sure if that works. We’ve also saved gifts and donated to a family at Christmas time.

curmudgeon I would be ok with home made items why does it make you cringe?...maybe I am missing something? Also dunno why I didn't think of it, donating the gifts is a great idea. My niece works for an org with orphanages and often makes trips to 3rd world, I'll ask her if she can bring toys for the orphanages. We could teach DS about being charitable - he's 5 so not quite sure how he'll understand it but I wanted to begin this Christmas and having him pick a family to get gifts for.

Anyone dealing with 18 months sleep regression? I totally forgot about it but now recall DS going through it momentarily. He was also transitions to 1 nap and was would wake up randomly at night. I decided to put lil fella to nap this am cos he woke up early this am but it's almost an hour now and he's still chattering, calling out to me although not crying so I decided to just leave him be. He initially fell asleep nursing but woke up when I transferred.

This is what a friend of mine does for her I gift parties, but to a local children’s hospital or charity. It’s really a nice gesture.

I don’t eat food from people I hardly know. I used to but once a coworker told stories of how her pets played in their own urine and feces then jumped on the counter and left prints all over the kitchen, and then she brought homemade food in- that was the end for me. Never again unless I know you and have visited your house several times. Also, even that is iffy because people like MIL will often used expired ingredients. No thank you.

We had kindergarten info night this week. Aside from her taking a bus she will totally be ready for September and we live in a low enrollment area so yay for small class sizes!
Tomorrow is DD1’s 4th birthday so we are going to the aquarium and then we will drop by a GF bakery for some cupcakes. We are Catholic but not religious so we are doing a birthday/Easter taco fiesta on Saturday for all the celebrations. My mom usually hosts a formal Easter dinner on Easter Sunday but since I am working and there’s the risk of cross contamination for DD1 we decided to skip it this year.
DH and I have been doing errands together today and just did some day drinking at lunch it’s been nice since we’ve had a rough go of it as of late.

Good Friday is a snow make-up day for us, except daycares closed. Thankfully my parents have off and are watching the girls. They’re going to do all the “Eastery” stuff like dying eggs since I don’t think we’ll have time later.
We are headed to H’s extended side for Easter dinner. Should be nice and drama filled. 🙄 One of H’s cousins is in the middle of treatments for breast cancer and and the big debate was when to have lunch and the big family egg hunt. My vote was “whenever [cousin] feels up to it” but apparently most of the family wanted it on Easter Sunday because “that’s tradition”. No one is religious on Hs extended side so I do not understand this “digging in” about the date. MIL is having a small thing at her place after Easter lunch so the girls should be good and tired Sunday night.

So I totally thought I wrote a post in the last thread talking about plants and landscaping, but it's nowhere to be found. That pretty much describes my life right now.
We have a busy weekend coming up, with a birthday party/Easter egg hunt tomorrow and then Easter lunch and family egg hunt on Sunday. The weather is crappy here right now, but it's supposed to be gorgeous tomorrow and sunday, so I'll take it.

Busy weekend here! Heading to church this morning and then egg decorating/casual dinner with family friends that has been tradition since I was a kid. Tomorrow I have acupuncture, then a community league egg hunt, then Easter with my family. Sunday is church and then Easter with DH’s side (and telling them about baby #3)

**tw for pet death**
My mom just text me that she made an appt to put her dog down next week. Her dog was super annoying 95% of the time but I will miss her. She is a senior dog who has a tumor growing on her spine, resulting in the loss of the use of her back legs and very reduced bladder function. As far as I know she is otherwise healthy but as she approaches the end of her natural life (14 y/o out of a 15 average life expectancy) shes definitely not living even a quality kind of life.
I'm just waiting to see if she wants me to come out to be with her. Pets, man.

Oh cythe, that's hard. We had to put down my dog when I was 7 months pregnant with DS1. He was 14, with an average life expectancy of 12-14 years, and he lived a good life and was seriously THE BEST dog ever. He converted my not-a-dog-person husband into one of his biggest fans and we both still miss him. I'd had him since he was 8 weeks old, for my entire adult life. It was so hard. Sending hugs to your mom. DH and they boys are at home today but my work does not recognized Good Friday as a holiday so I'm in the office. They're spending the morning at the zoo. Tomorrow morning we're going to a local Easter egg hunt and then to church tomorrow evening, so that we can drive to my mom's Sunday morning for Easter with my family. The weather should be lovely, so it should be a pretty good weekend. Now I just need to kick this sinus infection I came down with the other day.
