I'm just curious about what everybody is planning on doing with regards to taking a maternity leave. How long are you planning on working and how long of a leave are you expecting to take.
I'm scheduled to work up until 38 weeks which didn't seem too bad but now I'm wondering how I'm going to make it. I'm really feeling like this should be my last week but then I feel like a wimp for only working until 36 weeks.
Also for those planning on going back to work pretty quickly, what do you plan to do as far as breastfeeding? I switched to exclusive pumping before I went back to work last time but I would rather to actually breastfeed longer this time so I'm not sure how that would work.

I plan to work till baby comes, which is what I did with my other 2. But I have a desk job, and I have had relatively easy pregnancies.
I am planning to take 12 weeks this time, but with my other 2 I took 9 weeks each. I feel like I maybe started pumping about 2 weeks before going back, but always after a nursing session, and not every day. That gave me enough milk to try a couple bottle feedings, and to have some for the first few days at daycare.
Then i would pump twice a day at work, and actually go breastfeed the baby at lunch (i realize i am super lucky to have that option). So the goal was pumping at work every time baby would get a bottle, then breastfeed all the time outside of work. I would try to feed right before drop off and as soon as I got home (really short drive) or even in the nursing room at daycare before leaving to reduce the need for bottle feedings and pumping. At least early on.
I realize that is not a direct answer to your question, but it is what worked for me, and what I hope to do again.

I’m on an academic schedule, and an adjunct so no official “leave”, but I’m not teaching this summer. So I’ll work through finals week, which takes me to 37 weeks, and then grades are due the following week. I go back to work August 19 at the beginning of the semester, so if Baby comes on time that’s about 10 weeks. I’m hoping he isn’t late, both for my own sanity and so I get more time at home with him!

I have requested my leave to start at 39 weeks (since that is when I'll be having my RCS). I'm trying to make it as long as possible but realistically I'll probably get a doctor's note and go off by 34 to 36 weeks...luckily this doesn't count towards my mat leave and I still get full pay if I'm off on sick leave. I submitted my mat leave request 3 weeks ago and HR is taking FOREVER to get back to me. I'm a little annoyed as there are things I need to sort out before going off and I'm worried if they don't get back to me soon and something happens that I'll end up being screwed.

With my first I worked up until 38+6 (Friday) and delivered at 39+1 (Sunday). I was scheduled to go out 38+6 because induction was Monday 39+2. I took 12 weeks because that was what was allowed at the time. (6 weeks disability and 6 weeks of vacation/sick/personal time)
With this pregnancy I will work up until 37w. I could go out at 36 but it’s over the end of the month and I like to do our close outs. I will most likely have a c section at 38+3 barring any complications. I am taking 16 weeks off if I have a vaginal birth and 18 if I have the c section. 6 or 8 weeks of disability and 10 weeks of paid family leave (thank you NYS)!

I am hoping to work until my repeat C-section is scheduled, or if that becomes difficult try to work something out with the boss to work from home. I have a desk job but there is a bit of walking and a flight of stairs (or an untrustworthy elevator). My understanding from HR was that if I went out before the baby was born it could count against the total leave...but that didn't seem super clear. The short term disability will cover 8 weeks paid after the C-section and then I'll take an additional 4 weeks parental bonding leave unpaid, for a total of 12 weeks.
I am hoping to breastfeed so will need all the tips about what to do when I go back to work. Breastfeeding didn't work out when I had the twins, and I was laid off at the time so this is all new to me.
