piratecat depends on your kid. My youngest is up for an hour after I put him down whether he naps for hours or doesn't nap for all. But if he takes a longer nap, he's at least pleasant for all the hours he's awake. He seems so random lately. Sometimes he falls asleep right away and other times he hangs out for up to an hour and falls asleep and sometimes he hangs out for a while and wants to come out. He also occasionally poops around nap time which doesn’t help matters. He had woken up early (probably because of his long nap yesterday) and I put him down lateish so I thought for sure he’d go right to sleep. I even took him for a drive thinking he could take a short late nap but he just wasn’t tired. He is at least not noticeably grumpier than usual even if he doesn’t nap.

Just today my kid ate carrots and cucumbers shaped like bunnies and had edamame and a few small pieces of red bell pepper. This is probably the most vegetables he’s consumed ever.

Ffs, my 3yp put a rock up her nose. Currently at the ER. Not how I wanted to spend my Sunday.

We had DS1's birthday party yesterday; it was FANTASTIC. Like, it's always a crapshoot with the weather. Is it going to snow? Rain? Cool and cloudy? It was like 65 and sunny yesterday, pretty sure that's the nicest it's been.
We got a bounce house here and let DS2 and some of the other toddlers that came get in by themselves, without the big kids. They freakin loved it and it was adorable.

@starzia how is your daughter feeling and is she going through with the procedure today? Good luck! Surgery went well. I cried. Maria cried for an hour since she has been awake. Threw up in her car seat. We are 10 minutes from home and she falls asleep. Hope it’s a calm rest of the day I'm glad it's over and I hope recovery goes well for her.

I'm experimenting with a later nap time for J since he's been skipping naps. I put him down at 2 yesterday and he slept until 3:30 (woke up grumpy as heck), went to bed at 8 and woke up at 7. So maybe that will work or maybe he was just catching up from 2 days of not napping. ::shrug::

Also, J did really great at the dentist on Friday. I didn't love the dentist but the hygienist was good. They couldn't figure out my insurance for some reason and told me I had to pay out of pocket so then I left feeling like I had paid a lot of money for them to count his teeth and brush his teeth but it does look like I can submit the claim myself and get reimbursed. I might look for a new place for next time.
They told me to make the next appointment for 6 months out - is that really what they recommend for kids too and is that how often you take your kids?

Sorry for the screwup at the dentist but that's great he did so well! I know you were anxious about it. Yes it's biannually from here on out unless other problems arise. Your insurance should cover two cleanings a year. It's also a lot easier for the office to schedule now for six months out now, than trying to track people down when it's time.

I guess I've already paid the deductible so the other cleaning should be covered in full, presumably. I did go ahead and have them make the next appointment but I may find a different place for next time, I don't know.

If you're going to change, now would be the time since J is so little and hasn't gotten attached or familiar with the place yet.

If you're going to change, now would be the time since J is so little and hasn't gotten attached or familiar with the place yet. It's such a small list of in-network providers to choose from. I looked through again and found a couple others I could try but their hours are really limited. I didn't love this dentist but they are close and have convenient hours. There is one that is like RIGHT next to his daycare so that might be my next best bet - I could pick him up a bit early and go at the end of the day. Or I could just go out of network. I know I'm overthinking this as I do.

I would call a few providers directly and ask if they take your insurance.

On the other hand, the dentist office could not figure out, even after calling my insurance that they were in-network so I have no idea who I can trust.

Oh, and you may want to check with your health insurance if they have a separate rider for dental. I know the one offered through my work covers children's dental cleanings so you don't need separate dental insurance if you just want to get your kid's teeth cleaned.

That's what I have, just pediatric dental coverage under my medical insurance. I think it is for more than just cleanings but I'm not entirely sure. It is very hard to find information on it and I had to really dig around to find that I even had that coverage. I think it is maybe a relatively new change that they are required to cover some pediatric dental care under your medical insurance? Maybe?

piratecat, glad the appointment went well! Sorry about your insurance situation, tho. Ours is not bad overall, but they only cover bitewing x-rays as part of the checkup. What toddler is going to allow you to do bitewing x-rays?? So we've been fighting over that. I'm prepared to lose, but I might as well try.

Like they won't cover a checkup unless they do the X-ray? My dentist didn't even attempt it, she said she'll probably do them when he's 5... although I really did not feel very confident in her so I wouldn't be surprised if she was completely off.

I don't know what they're called, but they used a small, flat device for his x-rays. Those aren't covered, which is silly. Why tell me my appointment is covered in full if it's not? Anyway, if we have to pay for these we will opt out of x-rays in the future.

My mom says only in situations with history of decay. And it's almost impossible to get them to keep their mouth closed long enough to get a clear pic.

You might want to check and see if you have one under your medical insurance as well and if they might cover the X-ray, at least partially? I'm not sure how it works if you also have a separate dental insurance but I think my pediatric dental portion of my medical insurance is actually decent compared to the really shitty medical insurance that I have. The disconnect between providers and insurance is super annoying because you never know what will or will not be covered when services are offered. I would for sure not have wanted to do the X-ray if it would not have been considered part of a regular check up and not covered as such.
