auri I feel your pain. Do you have a contractor or are you fixing it yourself?

I’m here guys. Barely. +1 to wanting my own spring break. Also, we had tubes for dd1 sons ago, but no drops? Maybe ask if they’re necessary if it’s truly a fight? I’ll offer up that my kid isn’t even getting a bday party. Like it’s pretty much going to be a nonevent. I was ok with it until both my parents were like “well that’s sad.” Yeah well folks we are selling two houses and buying another. Moving ILs in with us and doing everything else life requires these days. I have nothing left. I quit. Except mom’s can’t quit so....eff it. If I don’t want to I am not doing it. So for now, no bday party bc life is nuts and I need to keep a bit of my sanity. Don’t make me feel bad. Sorry, there’s other stuff but basically people need to stfu. Good lord. You have plenty on your plate. If your parents are so sad about it - they can do something then and just have you show up. And maybe let you have a nap.

dizzycooks, We have a contractor. My husband likes to cut corners when doing projects, and I'd rather have it done right. For example, he thinks I should have just had the hole patched and replaced the four tiles. However, the tile is white and probably 15-20 years old. It would drive me crazy seeing the new tiles a different shade of white since I primarily use the kids bathroom since I hate mine. I hope things calm down for the both of us soon.

LOL dizzycooks 1yo parties are 100% for the parents. Don’t like parties or don’t want the added stress? Don’t do a party. First birthday parties have yet to be scientifically correlated to long term happiness and success SO THEY ARE WHOLLY OPTIONAL. Take a picture of your LO eating a cupcake sometimes close-ish to their first birthday. Boom. Done.

We’ve been on vacation this past week so I have been MIA. We are leaving today. I am not looking forward to the drive home.
I see I missed several birthdays, so happy belated birthday to those little ones.
L has some cute curls in his hair. While on vacation a few people called him a girl 😢. Maybe it is time for a haircut, but I don’t want to lose the curls.

Leaf 🌱 thank you! I love parties and baking and all that, but...not right now. I’m barely emerging from the sleep deprived coma that comes with a newborn and quickly entering the phase of adult caregiver. It just occurred to me that my kids will be on summer break in 8 weeks. I need to think about summer schedules.

I’m barely emerging from the sleep deprived coma that comes with a newborn and quickly entering the phase of adult caregiver. It just occurred to me that my kids will be on summer break in 8 weeks. I need to think about summer schedules. I promise this will have exactly zero long term effects. Take your kids to the zoo or a nicer than usual park, bring some cupcakes or buy a fancy dessert. Open a present. Boom. That was a party. Your sanity is way more important than a dumb party they won’t remember. Release it. Take care of yourself. Being a caregiver to tinies Is so so hard. And now to be caregiver to TWO generations? So much work. Please join some kind of support group - especially if one of the adults requires any memory care.

dd2 is officially taking steps. this is all going too fast. i kept dd1 home from school today - i actually ended up picking her up before lunch on wednesday because i was too paranoid with all the germs floating around.
in other news, h and i actually booked a kid free trip in october. you better believe i have a countdown on my phone.

We got the pictures back from Ns cake smash. I'm a little disappointed because there's only like four of her with the cake... But really my photography is more documentary style so I shouldn't be too surprised. There are a lot of gorgeous ones.
It's lovely out today, but I feel like crap. Is it spring yet?

We've had quite a week. In the span of 8 days, we flew to our new city (sans kids) to house hunt, sold our current house while we were there, put an offer on a new house this past Monday, and officially removed our conditions today. The craziest part is that I had to fly home on Monday, so I haven't seen the house we bought; MH stayed behind and our realtor video chatted with me Monday evening while they were viewing it.
We don't get possession until July, so we also booked an airbnb until then. We move out there at the end of April.
I do not want to live in an airbnb with 2 little kids, but our new house is in an absolutely perfect location (MH can walk to work) so it's going to be worth the upheaval and annoyance.

mintyblueair congrats on the house! i totally understand not wanting to rent but those few months will fly and it will be totally worth it. we are going to iceland - not exactly relaxing beach vacation but we aren’t really beach vacation people.

polson that's amazing, I've always wanted to go to Iceland! We are not beach people either so I completely understand the appeal.

Congrats on the house mintyblueair!! So exciting! GL with the move and everything😊 Congrats on the Iceland trip polson. That sounds great fun. Dad and my brother went through there a couple years back, they were on a work trip and decided to look for the longest layover in an interesting place lol.

Yes! Sorry - I read and then forgot to post but Iceland sounds amazing polson! I have friends that went and I drooled over their pictures. It just looks so frigging amazing. I hope you have the best time! mintyblueair, what a whirlwind! I’m very upset you are moving away from here but it’s all falling into place so nicely that it has to be fated, you know? Good luck on the moving!

polson ooh where to start. I wouldn't recommend renting a car, which I did when I went a few winters ago. The roads over winter are very, very different than American roads in winter and it adds a layer of stress that is unnecessary IMO. Plus there are plenty of private transfer options. Stay in Reykjavik. You can go to the Blue Lagoon either after you land or before you leave as it is very close to the airport. After you land might be an awesome way to start the trip and relieve some of the jet lag. Take a short nap when you check in the first day if you need to but try to stay up as long as you can and just go to bed early. Take a tour of the Golden Circle. It has Iceland's most popular tourist spots. Pingvellir National Park (a UNESCO world heritage site), Geysir (the most famous geyser in the world), and Gullfoss waterfalls. I recommend this tour since it includes time at the Secret Lagoon, which is a thermal hot pool that is way less touristy than Blue Lagoon and so so awesome. iheartreykjavik.net/the-tours/partner-tours/golden-circle-tours/hot-golden-circle-including-the-secret-lagoon/A Northern Lights tour is a good idea since they will be prominent by October. Book it early in your trip so that if you don't see them, you have a chance to go back our before the end of your trip. Try to stay somewhere that will bang on your door to wake you if the lights come out. You could also do a day tour from Reykjavik along the South Shore, which has the most amazing black beaches and basalt columns. Gorgeous. Food in Iceland is very expensive, so either budget for it or consider packing heavy snacks in your luggage to cut down costs. When I went, we stayed in a home share than allowed us to shop at the local grocery and cook some of our meals, which helped. Make sure you try the hot dogs (pylur) which are made of lamb and are incredible. Skyr yogurt is delicious as is rye bread and the arctic char that is caught locally. Dress in layers, wear waterproof shoes and make sure each of you has a waterproof outer layer (rain pants/coat or long coat/tall boots). I recommend getting a pair of Yak Trax or something similar for grip on icy trails and streets. Talk to as many native Icelanders as you can. They are so kind and friendly. Spend a lot of time on iheartreykjavik.net before you go as her recommendations and tour guides are VERY helpful from a local perspective.

Haha, we're in full blown packing and purging mode, so it might be a bit tight... But I'm going to be there the weekend of June 8 (probably without kids, though) so maybe we could make that happen??

i have been sick for the last week and a half and finally went to a minute clinic on monday when i couldn’t take it anymore. turns out i had a double ear infection😑 i now know why the littles are so cranky with them. i am feeling slightly better but still a bit dizzy/nauseous. can i vent here a little? h wasn’t feeling great tuesday (his stomach was a bit upset) so he left work, went home to take a 3 hour uninterrupted nap. i mean i’m happy he got to recover from feeling gross, but i am a little salty about the nap. i know i’m being a brat.
